I don’t see what Team Handball has never taken off in America. I went to the gold medal match in 96 in Atlanta. It was awesome. High scoring, end to end action, what’s not to like.

    Even Luke DeCock thinks so.

Very curious to see who Avent starts tomorrow. The only 3 pitchers that one could easily assume State would start in the regional were Brown, Wilder, and Piedmonte. Now, who is up? My guess would be Adler since he hasn’t pitched but about 1 IP on Saturday. You can pull Orwig out for 2-3 Innings, and Gilbert hasn’t been needed yet so he could give 2-3 innings as well.

Chris Williams uncharacteristically wasn’t sharp against Navy on Friday. He should be ready and can easily eat 3-4 innings. ‘

If they win game 1, then the deciding game would be fascinating to watch from a State pitching point of view.

And the elephant in the room could be this. With Brown only throwing 70 pitches on Friday, and it would be his bullpen day, would he be available for 1-2 innings?

But that is all moot if the offense doesn’t score a good number of runs. And you have to assume that to win the two games, it would mean that the offense has to tag Morrison for a run or two. And he was unhittable yesterday.

Heard that Dunand will start at SS at least initially.

O’Donnell had a very good summer at the Cape Cod League.

As long as they use the end of the TCU game as motivation for this year, who knows how well this season can go.

    Good luck to the Pack9!

Lots of good practice reps for McLendon and the younger/redshirting players.

And I used to love hearing the commentators try to say Poulan Weedeater bowl. Awesome.

Are we going to have anyone still playing at the end of the game? 4 guys with 3 fouls 90 seconds into the 2nd half.

    That is hysterical.

“91 percent of the power punches connected. That is unheard of.”

“Even when punches missed, the opponent’s head whipped back, like it was from air. ” Amazing.

I said before the season that we could be a lot better than we were last year and have the same record. Let’s hope that they win at least 2 of the last 3 to prove me wrong.

Doeren has knocked down some depressing stats well.

    Win at Wake – check
    Win at BC – check

Now, there are a few other items he needs to work on, which is happening.

What did Bobby Bowden always say?

    First, you lose big.
    Then, you lose small.
    Next, you win small.
    Finally, you win big.

Doeren is starting to move down the list there. I like the progress. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It may take a few more years, but I see the improvement happening.

The most NC State thing would be that they would win not only this weekend against the Tigers but also win out the rest of the season. Unfortunately, Clemson doesn’t lose another game and State doesn’t get to Charlotte.

One thing about the Aguayo blocked FG. When watching this, it was notable to me that Aguayo wasn’t even warming up before he goes between the sidelines. He is just standing there like any other player on the team. I have never seen a kicker NOT kicking into the net while his offense is driving for a game tying or game winning FG attempt. I mentioned this to my wife and really didn’t expect him to make it, even though Mark Jones kept saying he had never missed a kick in the 4th quarter.

Now, the FG getting returned for a TD, the block six, wasn’t something I anticipated.

Great game. Glad to finally break the streak.

Let’s go ahead and break another streak next week. Clemson hasn’t lost to an unranked team since 2011 when mike glennon demolished the fighting Dabos 37-13

What is interesting to me is that State is 22nd in the Power 5 in percent attendance at 99.23%.

You are telling me that there are 21 more schools that average less than 3/4 of a percent from being at capacity? Right.

And during the offseason, you heard a lot of debate about how to get more people, especially students, to the game.

But 1/3 of the schools almost are at full capacity? I seriously doubt that can be true. Is this Curry math?

Thanks WV. I was very surprised to see that State leads the ACC and nation in both time of possession and fewest penalties. Good statistics to be at the top of the leaderboard. Those statistics don’t always have a direct correlation on the W-L record, but they aren’t too bad.

    LRM,

I thought about doing a worst non-conference list but that would just be depressing. Yes, the two South Carolina games are there along with both Baylor games. Remember the 95 game where State lost 14-0 in a cold rain and I think State had something like 90 yards offense and 2 first downs. Ouch.

And the UCF game in 2006 to begin the TOB era. First play of the era, UCF goes 80 yards on an off-tackle run. Ouch again.

Akron 2006. He didn’t make it (although it never should have come down to one play…ever):

    Akron Closeup

And there are several other ECU games I could add.

Way too painful of a post

McKeever made the most important play of the season last year. The pick six gave the team momentum, the lead, and the confidence it needed to beat Syracuse. That ended the ACC 0-fer and started the Pack rolling.

Congrats to the Cavs. Fantastic job!

I am glad that I do not have to hear that stat again of no ACC team has won the title since 1955 (and it wasn’t a blue team doing it).

Great win! Chance did the same things at ECU this year, a 2 run homer down 1 with 2 out in the ninth, but the bullpen could not finish it off. Orwig with some good pitching.

    One more win to go!

Can I dare dream to play Stony Brook?

Good win today. This breaks a bad streak for the Pack9.

This is the first time in the last 6 appearances in the NCAA Tournament when State has not hosted (and not been a #1 seed) that the Pack has won its opening round game (2 vs. 3 seed). Last time they won their first game as a 2nd or 3rd seed was 2004.

With Britt and Gilbert throwing a shutout, the pen is saved from much use as well.

    Good luck tomorrow against TCU!

Read that Curt Britt is starting today.

He had a great start at Wake a few weeks ago.

Also, he pitched at South Carolina who until this year was a regular attender in the NCAA tournament, so he won’t be phased at all.

Great comeback win. Crowd was awesome.

It will be interesting to see how Avent handles the staff for tomorrow’s game. Does he start Piedmonte or start him on Sunday?

Would he pitch some of the guys who haven’t thrown as many innings this year, such as Williamson and Stone, and keep Gilbert, Olczak, Orwig, Britt, and DeJuneas ready for Sunday?

    ND beats UVA 8-2.

If State beats Miami tonight, they go to the ACC title game. If they lose, State is out. Tomorrow’s game vs. UVA is completely meaningless to State (outside of RPI) in terms of getting to Sunday.

Hope to see you there tonight. Should be fun.

Even though Miami swept the Pack, the Pack is better than they were early in the season. Hearing Wilder will probably start tonight. Hope his control is spot on.
