Lets not mention DD and HWSNBN in the same sentence because there is nothing similar to their tenures. DD has us on a slow upward projections, HWSNBN was mediocre at best, in a sport where you could turnaround a team much faster. . I have always pointed to this year as the year we will learn how good a coach DD is. When losing a ton of leaders, how well does the team progress? All indications so far are good, but who knows what happens. I am excited about the upcoming year as well as what we are doing on the recruiting trail.

Grey, you so optimistic. We need our DL to bring it this year along with the LBs and secondary stepping up a bit more. As long as Finley is under center I feel pretty confident about the offense. With that said we have little room for error in regards to our schedule. So we need to win the games we are supposed to win. Always a challenge for Wolfpack sports. My money is on Jakobi being our go to guy on offense this year.

Chris Mack learned under Prosser and Miller. Mack is a good coach, but I am not sure why anyone would want to go to UL knowing how screwed up the place has been. They must be throwing a lot of money at him.

At the ball field where I grew up playing baseball, soccer and basketball, they had to make a rule for tee ball. The parents and spectators had to be in the outfield. The coaches and umpire would stop the game until the individuals were removed from behind the plate. They had to do this because the parents were so aggressive and vocal towards the coaches and umpires. For freakin tee ball. The kids chase butterflies for petes sake. Thats what the world has come to.

Rick I agree with you…..that hurts me to say! I also think many of the complaints mentioned by 13 are in fact issues with college basketball as a whole. Watch any game with any teams and you will see the things he complained about.

While most of the analyst are close to who gets in, they are almost always off considerably about seeding. Depending on who else gets in and how the tourneys play out we could be anywhere from a 7 to an 11. It’s just too hard to predict without knowing what this selection committee may value over previous selection committees. On the bright side, they had has 100% in with the Ville win, so even if the percentage came down some I would say we are lock. I am routing for anyone but Duke and UNC the rest of the way!

That said, the FBI is not ‘interested’ in solutions, only ‘convictions’ to the extent the political landscape allows…

Lets not forget any lost tax revenue……Uncle Sam has to get his cut.

At first I was concerned, but now not so much. Not one school has heard from the NCAA. Looks like they are staying out of the way while the FBI sorts through the madness for them. So far you have nothing that constitutes damning evidence under the NCAA, for State or the Blues. No proof the coaches knew anything, even if there were calls. You have a ledger that supposedly offers little details other than some minor notes. You have criminals providing this information to avoid tax evasion and racketeering charges, which makes them less than credible witnesses. I believe the NCAA doesn’t touch this, and just revamps the rules drastically. I also believe this pushes the NBA to move the their requirements to be much like baseball.

Depends on the PF skill set. If you have one that can dribble and shoot, the system works.

I don’t know how the NCAA is going to handle this. When you look at all the players who received benefits, every program will get hit. Remember punishment is doled out by member institutions, so there is going to be some leniency as most of the folks sitting on the committee will be standing before them as well.

In our case the worst they could do is take some schollys away. The coach is gone, the player is gone.

The list was the top 16 teams on the seed program, not those with issues from the FBI investigation. The quote was the majority of the teams listed on the seed show should worry, hence the list.

I only know of one, Miss State losing to Vandy supposedly hurt their chances quite a bit. It would have to be the bubble teams for the SEC and Big 10 or whatever they call themselves nowadays. Supposedly Pac 12 is terrible and the only teams going are the ones that are virtual locks. Hope for the best teams and ach mid major to win their conference tourneys, so it doesn’t bump a power 5 bubble team.

Tractor, it’s unfortunate, but the college game has devolved. Fundamentals and D aren’t as prevalent in youth basketball anymore. Kids get by on athleticism and not fundamentals. That’s not to say it isn’t important, just less focus on it at the AAU and high school levels. I like KK style, but the truth will be how do these kids develop year to year. I felt like with Gott, the kids were the same for the most part from a skill set stand point. It’s one of the many reasons why the program never progressed further. I also like the fact KK is animated on the sideline and talks/coaches the kids while they are on the bench. Gott never did that.

Last night saw a few bubble teams outside the ACC take some bad losses. Couple that with our win last night and things are looking good. Really hope we win in WS.

I agree with rye and tractor. I also agree with Alias on taking a charge. The only caveat being the stupid arch under the basket. To me thats stupid, thats where majority of charges take place, but the rule now is if it in that area it is a no call or blocking. To me a charge is a charge regardless of where it occurs on the floor.

I heard Jay Bilas ripping the Quadrant system, rightfully so. His analogy was according to the quadrant system beating Rider at their home is the equivalent of beating Nova at your place. Are those two things even close to equal?

Wuf, I dont’ disagree that if we had the fundamentals, but unfortunately most kids are taught that these days. They get by on sheer athletic ability and it takes awhile to get rid of the bad habits, if you ever do. I hope we get to a point where the D gets better, but right now KK gets benefit of the doubt. Not that he is in the same league as Bennett, but it took him a few years for their defense to take off as well.

As for talent, I lump all three together. For example BB has average to good physical talent, he is strong in mental talent. Hopefully we win one maybe two this week to get ourselves on track. The only way that happens is if we up the defensive intensity.

Top 4 talent? Outside of Yurt and Markel we have no elite talent. BB is a good solid role player, but not a stud, especially on D. Heck ND has multiple players out due to injury that are better than most of our roster. As for Holtmann he is a good solid coach. He also has the luxury of having one of the best players in college basketball on his team. KK is a good solid coach as well.

The problem is some of you still expect perfection from the coach. You think if a kid doesn’t slide his feet fast enough on defense that we don’t teach defense. The kids getting beat off the dribble and not sliding their feet are the same kids who cannot beat anyone off the dribble. That isn’t a coincidence. We lack speed and quickness outside of the PG position and Freeman. Thats a talent issue not a coaching one. If you watch the games the effort is there, just not the talent.

Thanks VA, as always your analysis is spot on! I think KK learns from the scheduling issue. At UL he didn’t have to worry about scheduling. At UNCW the only way you get in is to win your conference. So hopefully he learns that two or three of these games need ot be against better competition.

44, I thought the same thing as you with Batts. His defense was one of the reasons we went on that run of wins, odd his PT just stopped.

Rthomas, pretty sure we need more than 4 more wins to truly be secure. VA did a huge analysis on it and does every week. 4 wins just keeps us where we are at, securely on the bubble.

Dilly Dilly wins every time!!! I am not sure how anyone could not be happy with the job KK has done so far. I certainly undersad the lets wait and see how the program does over the course of a couple of years. That’s a valid stance, but based off what we have seen to date, everyone’s hopes should be up. We are on the right path, and the kids are fun to watch. Cant ask for much more than that.

Bill I agree with your assessment except for playing Wake in Winston. Thats a 50/50 game easily. Maybe BC too i havent seen them enough to speak how good they are, just know they are around us in RPI talk etc.

Clemson lost their second best player due to injury. They aren’t a deep team so expect them to fall considerably, just as ND has done. As for the Pack, better than anyone expected at this point I think.

Freeman is the biggest issue right now. When he gets the ball his first instinct is to put his head down and drive it regardless of the defense in front of him. It his clear he is trying to showcase his talent level for the next level (Europe). But he such a better players when he plays within the flow of the game instead of forcing the issue. They should make him listen to the commentators the last few games. They clearly see the issue which means scouts easily do. At this point I dont think he is listening to the coaches, so maybe having hear it from unbiased folks would make him see the light. I doubt it, but worth a shot.

Well I am sure the WF game was a little of both. Wake has collapse dun multiple games this year, so no doubt the lacked confidence. Confidence makes such a difference. For example if we don’t beat Duke and gain a ton of confidence from that win, do we beat Clemson? Living in Winston I have had the chance to watch Wake a lot. I will say, we have the better coach. I like Manning but his teams lack good guard play, and he seems to always get out coached on the sidelines. Larranga needs to retire, I am tired of going up against him.
