Troll, I get where you are coming from because bball and FB drive our interest. We definitively should be better in those sports than we are. That is where Yow has failed. Where she has succeeded is elevating our non revenue sports. Most fans I talk to are 50/50 on her. She has done a great job in a lot of sports, just not the ones most of us care about.

Everything I have heard was Abu had a 2 year idea in his head. HE also already thinks in his mind he is NBA ready. Not sure if that is the potential money talking or not. The part I would find interesting would be if he transferred. If he goes to the NBA it says more about him. If he transfers (waiting a year to play, which extends his potential entry into the NBA by a year) it says more about our program and coaches.

I believe this to be a 50/50 situation. 50% in players head. He thinks he is better than he is. 50% the giant CF our program is right now.

Not sure why you wouldn’t want PR to be our Head Coach. He would have to get into coaching and rise through the ranks. Heck I would love to have him as a QB coach. He is pretty good and identifying coverages and understanding progressions etc. That would be great to have someone teach that to our QBs. The guy has a ton of knowledge that could benefit our players. Plus I have to believe it would help recruiting. I think kids going into college would relate well to him etc. Jim Harbaugh is megalomaniac, and pretty good coach.

Trent Dilfer said it best the other day and Steve Young. You are taught as a QB to never jump into a fumble pile. Dropping on the ball yes but jumping into a fumble with everyone is discouraged. This is because other players will take the opportunity to try and hurt you. That is very different from taking hits while running. People say its the biggest game of the year, but your instincts are what takes over. If you have been preached and taught not to jump on a fumble if others are then thats what takes over. You don’t see other elite QBs doing it so why try and hold Cam to a different standard? Did he play poorly and act like an ass yes. But that one play is not the reason they lost that game.

    Best Regards,

Tired of hearing the Archie talk. For better or worse we have a coach for at least a few more seasons so let it go.

I think BJD is right on Defense. Remember our lack of offenseive efficiency really hurts us defensively. We struggle to get back on D,which also hurts rebounding.

As for philosophy, I think we ought to change the way play. Recruit guards and wing players who can handle the ball and shoot. Only focus on one or two true big men. It will help us a great deal on offense and defense. If you have 2 players who are good shooters and could create off the dribble consistently, you would be able to attack a defense no matte rhow they defend you. Right now we have only player who can do that and it is killing us on both sides of the floor.

I live in Winston so I go to a lot of Wake games. They are a good young team. Manning is building a solid program. A good coach is one who works with the talent he has, which we have not done. Our best team on the floor is the Martin twins Cat, Rowan and a big. Our spacing is terrible and we don’t have anyone other than Cat who can create. We lacked intensity throughout the game. Most State fans were guiet even when we made runs to tie or take the lead. It’s clear the fan base sees this as what it is, a crappy year.

While I haven’t been a fan of those talking an suggesting we go after Archie, I do think we need a new direction. The talent gap only gets worse next year, and I would rather bring someone in to stop the bleeding than bleed out.

Really, Shaka waited, Marshall is waiting. In the last 5 years, that has been the trend if you are a top tier mid major, your coach stays until he gets the one he wants.

I disagree on Archie, I see a coach who is slightly better than Gott. We just have a soft spot for him because of the Miller ties to State. He won’t get us to elite status. Brian Gregory was just as good a coach at Dayton before Archie got there. What has he done at GT?

The major point is, coaches don’t want to leave their top program in a mid major for a middle of the road P5 program. They leave for the special programs, which we aren’t one of unfortunately.

Why does everyone think Archie is an upgrade? Dayton has traditionally been a good program before Archie got there. He didn’t build it, just maintaining it. It’s not a knock on Archie, just the truth. He played for us, and I appreciate that but that doesn’t mean he is a good fit as our coach. Plus everyone seems to think coaches want to go to a power 5 conference but why? If I am the top dog in my mid-major conference every year, win a conference title, go to the dance etc why would I want to go to a middle of the road program?

As for schollies, can someone compare us to multiple programs and how we stack up on numbers etc. From what I have seen, most teams stick to 7 or 8 man rotation. That makes scholarships far more difficult to give out and stick, especially when going to mid power 5 team inst as attractive as going to some mid majors? It’s easy for us to sit here wine and moan, but when drill down to what drives the results, it isnt as simple as Coach and staff? Because except for a handful of coaches, they are all in the same boat.

Its simple really, in college football a good offense makes you competitive in every game. There is such a talent gap between teams that having a good or greats system on offense makes you competitive in almost every game you play. I also think offensive schemes are generally easier to pick up than defensives ones which is why freshman can make more of an impact on offense than defense. Either way this needed to happen, as our team lacked creativity on offense. I agree the defense needs to get better too, but at least something is being done instead of sitting pat.

Rick, I agree the agent thing is a bit shady where Yow is concerned. Considering how far we have come under her leadership as an overall athletic program I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

While I have been a DD supporter, the evidence is clearly going against him. Our offense is worse this year than last. Our WR cannot get separation, which is normally coaching. All we do is run the ball, when we have a QB who has the ability to throw the ball down the field. We aren’t aggressive on the defensive side of the ball at all. Unless something remarkable happens next year, we will be looking for a new coach. Shame too because a lot of good ones were available this year.

Our problem this year is our offense was one dimensional. Stop the running backs you stopped our team. VT and Lville were both downpours negating the advantage of running back. They couldn’t cut and make people miss. This isn’t an excuse just an observation, that we need the deep threat down the field to really be effective offensively. I haven’t been a fan of Canada’s since he got here and I am still not.

As for schedules, I don’t hold that against DD as he inherited this schedule. On the bright side we seem to have a lot of home and away agreements coming up with power 5 conferences, so the schedule thing shouldn’t be an issue too much longer.

I proud of our coaches and team for playing hard and getting the win. It is simple when they play hard and smart basketball they can play with just about anyone. The games we have lost I have felt like we were going through the motions. If they stay motivated we can clearly make the dance.

Watch out for Wake. Manning has brougt in some great talent and coaching them very well. I could see them making the top 6 ACC.

Right you are, not as good as Case, Sloan, or V. Oh wait, that was 30 years ago!! College basketball has changed so much since then it isnt a fair statement or comparison. This why you have to take recent future in to account, and the eye test. There aren’t a lot fo coaches who could do what Gott has done. I am not saying he is elite, but he is a good all around coach. He understand all aspects of coaching i.e. recruiting. scheduling etc. I remember the past coaching searches and no one really wanted to come here. I think we have have to consistently be going to the tourney and competitive within the league to change our perception. We are doing that but it still takes time. We spent 25 years being irrelevant in the sport. Gott has done a great job not only righting the ship but setting it up for future success. He deserves this contract, regardless if someone was coming after him or not.

I am in the progress is being made camp. However I think one thing that really hurts us is our style of play. We really miss Bo Hines this year. We don’t have any go to WR down the field who is consistent. We have tons of talent, but for us to take the next step we need consistent good QB play, and a solid WR a QB can rely on. When you watch us play, until the last few games we haven’t really thrown the ball downfield. I really like our defense and think they can be something special next year. A lot of solid players this year, if they take a step forward next year could be great.

Truth is after seeing what TOB did to recruiting, I am very happy with where we are. Furthermore as for schedule I think they have done a great job addressing that for the future.

Live in Winston and will be at the Wake game. Hate it though, as we never win in basketball or football here. It’s simple, Wake always wants it more than we do. Our talent levels aren’t so different in either sport that we can go through the motions. I see no urgency in this team. The energy level isn’t there. If we don’t show up and fight against Wake, want it more than they do we will lose easily against them. While I didn’t expect us to be great, I did expect Brisset to be more than Mr. Checkdown. Gonna be rough all season if we cant stretch the field with our wideouts.

Love the Panthers, but they have absolutely no playmakers on offense. Cam and Olsen, thats it. I am very surprised they have managed to get where they are. At 4-0 should they consider giving up a 3rd or 4th round pick for a quality wideout? J Stewart is officially done in my book and they should let the young guys play more in the backfield.

As for the rest of the NFL, Peyton just doesn’t have the arm to win it all for Denver this year. They have a solid team, but don’t think they can win the whole thing. If Rodgers stays healthy then GB is the team to beat. Their defense is much better this year compared to the last few.

My understanding is these 2 young men were upset at previous call made. 2 of their teammates had just been thrown out of the game as well. The ref who was hit was the one who made the call resulting in the other team in essence winning. They could then run the clock out. So these 2 young men took their frustrations out on the ref. The bigger underlining problem here is there as increase in todays society for a lack of respect for authority. This ref did his job, didn’t hurt anyone in the process, yet was attacked for making a call in a game. If they are willing to attack a man for something like this imagine what they would do in more dire circumstances. People need to have more respect for one another regardless of what team you are on.

For years I have enjoyed reading everyone’s thoughts on everything in regards to NC State athletics. This basketball season though has been truly ugly. You would think we had a losing record. I would be interested to know how many people on here who think Gott isn’t getting it done, also want Archie to come here. You see if you already have it in your mind you want Archie here, then Gott won’t be good enough for you until he wins a championship or Archie goes somewhere else. The truth is very few coaches could have done what Gott has in the amount of time he has been here. Our AD was in shambles. Every sports program for the most part had a losing culture. You cannot change things until the culture is changed. That culture is getting much better! I have seen us truly get better as a program every season. Until Gott has consistently failed he deserves your support. He has earned that much.

The game was the first time I have seen us play this year live. I had a few takeaways. First half, I saw a lot arguing from Gott with a few of the players, but mainly Washington. Washington was missing his defensive assignments. He was cheating to help a lot and losing track of his man. Washington also took some dumb shots during this stretch and Gott didn’t pull him. Consistent mistakes on both end of the floor and the coach should pull them. I believe it is one of the main reasons we lack discipline. There is no high post offense with this team. In the high post the idea is to feed it into the post let the defense collapse opening up the rest of the floor. If they don’t collapse, the player should be able to beat his man one on one. Instead we have 3 players passing the ball around the three point line with 2 players on each side looking to post up. Never at the top of key. It doesn’t seem like we play team ball, just a lot of individuals out there. This team is headed in the wrong direction, and my only hope is that week off allows us an opportunity to get heads straight and salvage the year. In order to do that they have to trust one another and their coaches.

Cat is the best defensive player on this team. I have noticed it a lot over the last few games, but even at the beginning of the year he was playing good D. While he makes a mistake here or there he gives it everything he has got while out on the floor. I am not sure some of the other players do. Abu and Turner continue to foul out of games, make stupid mistakes. They are often in the wrong position defensively to make a play.

As a State fan who lives in Winston, I can tell you I hate it when we come here to play in any sport. One benefit to living here is getting to see Wake play a lot. Their BBall team is headed in the right direction, and I don’t believe we are extremely better than them talent wise. They have a strong core of young players who will be very solid 4 year players for them. One European big man who can drain 3s all day long. Funny how they always have one, yet we can never find one. Their coach is going to be one of the best in the country once he gets a few more recruiting classes in Winston.

Outside of the Dukes. Cheats, and Louisville we all have close to the same talent. The more experienced teams tend to do better, ie ND. The real key to his game is if Lacey and Cat decide to penetrate or settle for jump shots. If they settle for jump shots we lose, if they drive to the basket we win. We are at our best when we drive to the basket, but in the games we have lost I find myself yelling at them for settling for jump shots. Good things happen when you take it to the RIM!

I disagree Ryebread. You have to put effort into both. You have to diversify as much as you can, so when NC State S%#t does happen, the other sport can offset it.

I truly believe we are on the right track in basketball. Football we have a ways to go but hopefully, these recruiting classes start translate on the field.
