I was able to see the game in a bar but couldn’t hear a damn thing. All I know is we lost and I bought the beer. I was able to see some CJ Leslie ball which did not make me happy. Hope our heads are screwed on better this Saturday for the holes.

Hope to find a sports bar in downtown San Antonio to watch with a Hokie friend of mine. You are 100% correct on their DNA. My son graduated from VT with a major in animal science and my wife and I spent many enjoyable weekends mixing with the that crowd including football games. Good times had.

I am happy with KK and the season so far. I actually enjoy games again and, for the most part, think we have a shot to win each and every one (except maybe UVA). I don’t like being a pessimist but that unfortunately has been part of the Wolfpacker DNA since the days of Jimmy V. I hope we can keep this trend going and resume our rightful place in the top tier of the conference. I thought Gott would get us where we wanted to be but the signs were there early that he couldn’t run a program. He achieved less with more than any coach I can remember.

I’ll echo the thanks above. No way I have the kind of time or knowledge to pull together the detailed information you’ve provided. It’s much appreciated. I’m on travel later this week with a buddy from VT so we’ll be watching together in San Antonio while sipping margaritas. Should be an interesting match up. I think when we pass the ball (no ball hogging) and hit a fair number of three’s to keep the D honest, we can play with anyone.

Beverly, Yurt7 and L. Freeman were the only players playing team ball. A. Freeman needs to be forced to watch hours of CJ Leslie tape. Too many one on three fast breaks after a great defensive play on the other end and too many jacked up threes without passing to anyone else. Its been a long time since I’ve seen a ball hog as bad as him. We weren’t out talented so much, we could have stayed in it. We beat ourselves with stupid, selfish decisions on the court. Granted the rims weren’t kind but several of those missed layups were due to players trying to make a statement verses ensuring the bucket counted. This is a very immature teams that needs to grow up in a hurry.

Opinion from watching our games this year. I can’t understand how we can be so inconsistent. Perhaps its the level of completion – I don’t know but I feel like we’ve under performed.

In my eyes we have reached a state of equilibrium. The losses don’t piss me off any more than the wins (see BC last week). I feel sorry for the kids. We have the talent to be better than our record would indicate. I’m to the point where watching a State game is not entertaining. We’ve played some inspired games this year but the eggs laid really have me frustrated. I’m ready for a change.

I was hoping since it was Friday that it would finally all be over. Whenever it does happened, I want to see a blog entry that says “IT’S FINALLY FRIDAY!” Stay classy NCAA, your days are numbered as well.

Very impressive win on a big stage. Congrats to the team for an all around stellar performance. For me, this shows we can handle some success and perhaps go much farther than most of us thought we would. Stay focused guys, one game at a time.

I also liked the announcers and appreciated that they stayed focused on our game and gave us some props as well.

I thought by now Petrino would be sidelined due to sneakergate and we’d be facing some assistant. I guess its better to dance with the devil you know then one you don’t. Go pack, play aggressive and keep this thing going.

I’m happy for the team but think the ranking might be a bit premature. I’m hoping they won’t let it go to their heads and will prove the ranking is deserved. Tough game coming up. Maybe sneakergate will have LU distracted.

I don’t have the time or frankly the interest to watch the NFL. I typically would watch the last few games of the year during the playoffs. This year, I won’t even do that. This country has been good to me and I didn’t earn it, it was earned long ago on many battle fields. Our flag and Nation Anthem are the symbols of our country that countless thousands have given their lives and limbs for. I have no interest in watching a bunch of spoiled over paid sports celebs make a protest or statement or whatever you want to call it by not honoring our national symbols during the time they are being paid to entertain. That’s my protest to the protest.

I served 20 years in the USAF under some Commander in Chiefs, including all the way back to Nixon, who I thought didn’t deserve my respect. But I always respected the office and not the man. Same with the flag for me. You stand and salute when it passes. I don’t always agree with what my country does and has done to many folks over the years, both at home and abroad, but it is the best country on earth. I really think the players could find a better outlet to exercise their “free speech”. Never understood having to tear down one group in order to build up another. And no matter what has been said above, I think most veterans would agree that kneeling during the National Anthem is disrespecting those that have worn the uniform and in particular those that have paid the ultimate price.

The players will keep at it until they kill the golden goose. I’m so tired of entertainers mixing politics with there job and I bet I’m not alone no matter what political persuasion you may be. What do you think my employer would do if came to work and protested issue X, Y, Z on the job? Exactly what they should do and fire my AZZ. These sports stars, as well as Hollywood celebs, need to understand what their role is and where their bread is buttered. Remember the Dixie Chicks? Love their music, couldn’t pay me to go to a concert of theirs even after all these years.

PS, agree that our President should act more presidential and less grade schoolish.

I was impressed with Blackman. I can’t remember how many passes he got off just as he was about to be hit that were spot on. True he had some misses of an open receiver but man that young man has some cahones. Also, impressed with how many times he got knocked down and kept on going. That brings to mind a question, is it just selective memory or did our secondary get burned a number of times on the outside? Seems those were the same plays were you thought Blackman was going to get sacked but he got it away and then their receiver made an outstanding catch. Besides the special teams and short kicks, that still is an area where I think we could use some improvement. Not putting that on our players since I’m not smart enough to know if its execution or planning but it seemed a weak spot for us.

FSU really hurt themselves with penalties. Our guys played a pretty clean game. If we can keep consistent with the kicking game and figure out how to stop a kickoff return, we may do much better than expected this year. This was the defense I’ve been waiting to see and I’m glad the OC is finally using J Sam to the extent I thought we should have last year. I thought this was a real team win and I’m very happy for our coaches and players. And please, no more celebrations. That penalty (subsequent short field position), the safety and the blocked kick almost snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Our margin for error is still pretty slim.

I’m not smart enough to know the source of our secondary issues – I just know we seem to perform every bit as poorly as last year. This team and coaches better dig deep. This was a winnable game and they are out of excuses.

Just got back from the stadium. I haven’t read single post above. My observations:
    1. Kicking game is still a problem. I think we put it in the end zone once and the field goal miss speaks for itself.
    2. I give the punter props. He had some outstanding ones today that we didn’t capitalize on.
    3. Defensive secondary still seems to be a problem. I
    4. I was waiting to see this stellar defense all day and I think we only managed one or two sacks and they seemed to move the ball on us at will. We maybe got two or three stops all day?
    5. QB play was average. Missed a couple of wide open receivers when we really needed it.
    6. Offensive play calling we very un-inspired. The last two possessions it seemed like we weren’t willing to do anything special to win this game.
    7. Special teams – what can I say. That first touch down kind of took the wind out of our sails.
    8. Overall, it didn’t seem we were ready to play or especially up for this game. Can’t put my finger on it but even the lame “come see the players board the bus event” showed we didn’t take this game very seriously.
    9. I put out $150 for two tix and was expecting a lot more. Instead, we got a lot more of the same.
    10. If we can’t handle the bottom of the SEC, we are in trouble with the ACC schedule we have.

We will be making the trek from Central VA to Charlotte for our typical one game a year. Leaving Friday and coming back Sunday to make a weekend out it. I agree with all the reasons above for not going but since we never had season tickets or parking passes, it’s only the inside the stadium stuff that annoys us. I hope our athletic management will spend some time evaluating the whole game day experience from the fan’s point of view and make some changes. Otherwise, TV will continue to drain the pool of folks willing to put out the cash for an in person game viewing experience (are you listening Dr. Yow?)

It’s refreshing to see that someone in the mainstream sports media gets it. Wonder how many Friday’s after the hearing we’ll have to wait for the results? Would be nice if the NCAA promptly issues their verdict. The holes have gotten enough free passes to date and I’d love to see them taken down before the first football game is played.

WTNY has been our mantra for several years now. We’ll it’s almost next year. We are planning to travel to Charlotte to see the Pack in action in Sept. Hopefully, we’ll be turning over a new leaf and can forget some of the uglier aspects of the recent past. I truly hope we finish the season strong and can say that we do see improvement. I’m excited about the possibilities and want to stay that way.
