Arizona’s one-two punch the combo to watch this week
Allonzo Trier and Deandre Ayton will enjoy their first national spotlight of the year when the Wildcats compete in this week’s Battle 4 Atlantis, a tournament in the Bahamas that will also feature NC State, Purdue and a potential Villanova-Arizona matchup in the title game.
Trier (30.0 PPG, 10-for-17 from beyond the arc) and Ayton (18.7 PPG, 11.7 RPG, 1.7 BPG), the projected top-five pick in next summer’s NBA draft, are playing as well as any pair in the country.
The way I see it…
While ‘Zona only has 2 seniors and 3 juniors on the roster, they are BIG with a couple of 7 footers, including Ayton, and Trier outside at 6’5″…
Those are matchup nightmares for the PACK with or without ABU…
Now… our scoring has to come from outside and on layups that are evenly contested AND Freeman and the other PACK frontliners have to stay out of foul trouble.
First year coach Kevin Keatts will go 8-9-10 deep on his bench looking for the hot hands and the right combinations.
If we can do that, we might see a game!
From another angle, and perhaps just as interesting – especially come January – we might get a glimpse as to how the young PACK responds when looking at a double digit deficit for the first time, especially late in the game….

Footnote:Just for the curious…. Sean Miller’s, or anyone else with the same surname, relationship, or lack thereof, with either NCSU or the FBI, IMHO is not worth mentioning except to avoid the question as to why that’s not mentioned… NOT game factors tonight….

#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!For a team as disrespected as State to be tied with the #2 team in the nation at halftime is a bit of a win and a bit of reason to perhaps up your expectations for this season. Regardless of the outcome, it seems that our untimely death was reported prematurely. Go ahead and bomb away in the second half, BB. Love the enthusiasm and belief.
Officiating is calling touchy fouls against us. They don’t need any help as this is a legit NBA team with all those bigs. Tied at half is a tremendous accomplishment for Keats young career as head coach. Don’t see us winning but I like what I’m seeing.
Great first half for State.

Al Freeman did not earn any free throws. The rest of the team earned 10 and made 7.Not bagging on Freeman, who has looked good. More an observation of how good the rest of the team has looked so far against a quality opponent.
