Sorry for not posting sooner Tau837. I live in NYC work late hours on Wall Street and still find time for a social life on Thursday evenings. Just seeing the news and I’m thrilled if you must know, since you and others allude interest.

It would be a fool’s errand for me to defend my past analysis of Got against anyone who believes recruiting success vindicates their past opinions on his coaching ability. Really the only thing you can ding me on is my prediction that his recruiting success would wither, in which case, since his paradigm relies on the (poor man’s) Calipari method, would spell another painful few years…deja vu in the life of a Wolfpack fan. I would still trade G for a better coach such as Archie in an instance though I have no motivation to rehash painful basketball memories…it is football season for Pete’s sake.

These types of recruiting splashes have to be common for Gott if we expect him to break the Elite 8 and, dare we dream, Final 4 drought. Let’s hope he has another top 5 class and it translates into an Elite 8 or more. Until then…cheers.

Oh no the sunshine squad will jump all over me. I can’t help myself have to call it like I see it.

    Defense: C-

I hope the optimist are correct about our defense. Looked average-ACC at best. Our front 4 had almost no QB pressure all game against the pre-season bottom feeder Sun-Belt team. Scheme excuse aside, they simply have to get better for us to break the 6/7 win barrier. Mario and Co. would have sacked this guy ten times. We had zero except a LB blitz. Zero against Troy. That is BAD.

Our secondary looked average at best (supposed to be our strength). Anomaly or canary in a coal mine? I’ll take the coaches word at face value and say anomaly.

Linebackers…ehh we didn’t really blitz so was hard (for me) to really see their impact. Missed their gaps on long runs but ehh the d-line is partly to blame and the Troy back is faster than our backs save Hines (wish we could have seen him run.)

    Offense: B+

I can’t give an A to a team that has huge deficiencies at receiver and O-line. Receivers did NOT get open on their routes…partly defense scheme to prevent big plays…this left Dayes open for Jacoby to dump off to. We knew we sucked here but at least Dayes has nice hands.

O-line….wait we ran for xx yards… True but the O-line did NOT open huge holes and dominate Troy like an above average BCS O-line should. That’s because we have a mediocre O-line. We knew this.

    QB: A

JB is awesome. He left the pocket a second early a few times but that’s splitting hairs. He could be better than RW and has NFL potential.

    Coaching: A

Hats off to Canada the misdirection plays in backfield is exactly what the Dr. ordered for a team with weak o-line and embarrassment of riches in backfield (though Matt Dayes is overrated ugh.)

Mark Turgdeon’s doing pretty well BUILDING his program up at Maryland. Not sure what Gott is building other than a house of cards. No seniors or freshman? SEVEN scholarship players? Enjoy another bubble year because the future looks dim.

Let’s just hope we only have one more year of Gott and can hire Archie next year.

Wilson is the most overrated QB in the NFL. Revisionist history that he was worth gambling to give up Glennon for two years. He wasn’t even the best QB in the ACC during his tenure. The average fan has horrendous analytical judgement. Hindsight bias – exacerbated only because he has a super bowl ring – plays a large role. Anyone remember him blowing the game at Maryland? We could have made the ACC championship had we only beat a bad Maryland team.

Color me surprised losing two kids early. Who would have ever ever ever thought this could happen. Too bad Gott can’t make an unexpected departure. I hope he doesn’t get caught with his pants down again.

Next year could be the peak of Gott’s career.

Lacey will be gone and Cat goes pro. No recruits in sight for next year (except 2 longshot one-and-dones).

Enjoy 2015/16 fellas it should be a good ride but don’t get used to it.

The NBA doesn’t want the MLB rule. The whole point of making them wait an extra year is to lower the risk of drafting a lemon. The MLB rule still has that risk.

Seeing players with a year in college experience makes scout’s jobs much easier. Seeing them in college two or three years would be even better, of course, but there is no desire to revert backwards to have the option of NO college. Just make it 2 or 3 years.

This of course would help the elite programs at the expense of the others. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to pass.

Hopefully Gott can continue to grow and improve at another school. Maybe he has a banner year and is hired away after next season. It seems our best hope.

Factors that go into coaching decisions:
    1) $$
    2) recruiting (ties into fan support and facilities and tradition)
    3) AD

Our #1 and #3 hurt us during both searches. We are a poor school despite Wendell he is only one man and is not even close to a T. Boone or Phil Knight booster. Wichita State just proves that mid-tier conferences can match or even beat our offers.

#2 is good but not great…high school kids could name 30 programs they would rank ahead of ours. Maybe more. What have you done for me lately?

Gott has recruited well but NOT great. There are 20 teams with more talent. How can we expect to beat those teams without out coaching them???

^ I work with a guy who played on the 91-92′ Duke teams. He’s happy to be in the Sweet 16 and said everything else is gravy. He doesn’t realized how spoiled he is.

He’s cerebral??? Assuming I take the media’s word for it (this is akin to a jock with a 100 IQ calling someone with 110 IQ smart), having intellect without the ability to APPLY it to one’s vocation is worthless. He never optimized talent to an extent to believe he was smarter than other coaches. He had a few top 25 recruiting classes at State and turned them into bubble teams.

He’s nice??? That’s what human beings say about other human beings when nothing else comes to mind. I am offended when people describe me as nice – luckily I don’t have that problem very often 🙂

Herb is only NOT forgettable due to his bizarre ability to polarize our disenchanted fan-base.

I bet Ralston has a huge game. Play Dez Lee he plays with a (righteous) chip on his shoulder.

3 point dogs playing with house money. Play with heart and win the damm game.

    This comment is very telling.

“I always felt like for us to ever go to another level, he’s the guy,” coach Mark Gottfried said. “Somehow, we’ve got to get him playing at a higher level. My encouragement to him was just, you need to be you. Go be Cat. Go play. If you’re going to make mistakes, make them, but let’s make them at 100 miles an hour. I don’t want you walking the ball up the floor, playing conservatively. I want you to cut it loose.”

Not a troll Ive been reading since 2003 and posting since 2007 or 2008. In the Chancellors Circle. More money I give more pissed I get when I see losers.

I work in finance (CFA & CPA) and used to underwrite hedge fund managers. I have some professional experience judging character and competency. Not a fan of Gott. Pitt fans provide a refreshing breath of independent air to bash Gott. We are crazy to fool ourselves.

We should not anchor our expectations to whatever (silly) prognostication we made for this year. This was a very talented, athletic and deep team that underachieved in a substantive way.

It only FEELS better because the bar was set so low. Just like Gott’s first year when he inherited talent but the pundits hardly noticed beforehand because Lowe was on another planet himself…just not the good planet.

4 bubble teams with another bubble team coming in year 5. Hail to Gottfried.

As young as dukes team is, give Gott that roster and they’d be on the bubble.

Yawnnnn. Where’s archie with his higher ranked Dayton team?

From the Pitt Rivals Thread: “Gottfried is a terrible coach. Give Jamie his roster and I think we’re a 3 or 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.”

^ Agree. You could name 20 coaches off the top of your head and make this prognostication with a straight face.

“I think that State fans might as well hope for the best while understanding that it is unlikely that State will consistently contend for a top position in the ACC. My best-case scenario was first proposed by BJD several years ago….hope for a peak-type season every few years.”

Anyone who supports Gott certainly has similar aspirations to you and BJD.

Hopefully we have enough fans, and leaders, who aspire for much more.

You just can’t overstate how large and unbelievable an upset and coaching blunder this was.

If you love the program you’ll prey we lose out and miss the tourney. I am officially torched earth policy. It gives us a better chance for Gott being gone. The lesser mines will certainly claim blasphemy which only assuages the stance.

You either meet the goal you were hired for or you don’t. Gott wasn’t hired to be a bubble team. He’s failed this is an easy decision for anyone other than a loser which sadly is pervasive among our fanbase.

Many accept the “fate” of bubble status I wonder if they cuckhold and get on all fours when the wife barks.

I take no joy in being an early adopter of Fire Gott but rather I feel pain to see the program stuck in this rut I fear this mediocrity has no end.

How many more wins until we have a better RPI (and program) than Butler and Dayton?
