Just look at the list. Four guys likely to hit the beach in the next 5 years. Are we positioned to take advantage of the opportunity?

IMO the answer to that is NO. I think you need a young up and comer similar to UVA or Wake.

I pretty much agree with this. At this stage in the game where some heavy hitters are going to be retiring soon I would rather roll the dice on an unknown Archie or someone like that vs what we know we have in Gott.

Would it be too much to dream that we could snag Gregg Marshall back here if Yow isnt the AD anymore? I think he would jump at the chance to coach in the ACC at a reputable school. Just dont want UNC or Duke to get him.

    Good article

What are the numbers in parenthesis beside the teams in the second SFN tweet?

With a head coaching change likely coming after next season, changes with the assistants is hard to get excited about.

barring a complete disaster (2-3 wins) Debbie aint firing DD after 4 seasons. I think she knows that she is probably not going to be making any more revenue sport hirings so she probably will ride him out.

Her contract runs through 2019. She turns 66 this year and would be pushing 70 if she finished her contract. No way in hell I see her going the distance. I could easily seeing Woodson letting her retire early and honor the contract while a new AD (Gary Stokan, has that ship sailed?) makes a decision on both coaches. Seems to be the less messy way out of this dumpster fire.

Just looked up Stokan is in his mid 60’s. Damn we blew that chance with him.

Buzz has definitely improved the Hokies. Manning has improved the Deacs. Some teams get better while others get worse.

From the little I have seen from Wake/Manning I think he is the real deal. They seem to play team ball and hustle. ONly a matter of time before he starts reeling in some big recruits.

fire Gott and replace him with Chuck Amato

I read Coach Amato’s biography on the Akron website yesterday. It is a phenomenal write up and might convince others that Chuck is up to the task.

It really made me feel good about NC State football.

Makes me sad to think he is really 69. Damn he had has so effing close. Once in a generation opportunity. If only Marcus Stone was a marginal qb who knows where we would be now.

I don’t see the first thing suspicious about giving Gott a contract extension after his first 4 years. Considering what he’s done for our bball program in such a short amount of time it was a prudent move if anything, imo.

Explain to me how it was prudent? I dont think that is the word you are looking for here.

Of course, hux may be fired tomorrow. If that happens, what does it say about the head coach that he has to fire BOTH coordinators that he had hired 3 years into his tenure.

It says the head coach is next if things don’t change quickly.

You have to wonder what kind of coaching talent we can attract. Any one coming in has to know it is win or else time.

Thats a fair point and I dont want Yow anywhere near the next hire. However if he craps the bed next year then a reasonable coach could look at his 4 years body of work and understand why he indeed did get fired. The numbers are deceiving here. Also I imagine we are going to have to “break the bank” a bit more next go around to get someone not a project so I think there will be more money to entice someone.

I am praying we get a Air Raid prodigy coach or just bite the bullet and throw all sorts of money at Ken N (Navy) and be done with it. We will never recruit well for numerous reasons so might as well have a gimmicky offense. Would love to see the Air Raid in the ACC.

As someone who has been baffled many times with Canada, I find his release very perplexing if hux is allowed to stay. So what you want about Canada, but he has shown signs of genius. He has shown he can do his part in engineering upsets…the same can’t be said about hux thus far in his tenure in Raleigh.

Of course, hux may be fired tomorrow. If that happens, what does it say about the head coach that he has to fire BOTH coordinators that he had hired 3 years into his tenure.

Says he is a dead man walking IMO. I think they fired the wrong one. If you do indeed fire both then I def think it hinders recruiting quite a bit.

No need to throw insults, just making a statement. I would like year 5 to be better, but I’m not sure who we’ll get to take the job if we run off a guy with 2 sweet 16’s and 22+ wins/year in his first 4.

    Archie

/ducks (kidding, sortof not really, would take him in a minute at this point)

sorry man I didnt mean to insult you personally, my apologies, I was just saying that line of thinking is predominant in a NCSU fans rationale.

I’d be willing to bet that if Henderson doesn’t get hurt, this team is 12-2 and we’re not talking about firing anyone. Doesn’t make the situation any better, just something to consider.

That seems to be States MO the past few years. Always an excuse, always a reason that we are oh so close but it just doesnt work out. Such a simple minded mentality.

LOL at Gott blaming the refs today for that debacle. He should be embarrassed.

Not to keep beating that proverbial dead horse but our major athletics are in a dark dark place right now. With other teams in other years I can find a bit of optimism to lean on with either program but now I am just not seeing crap. I know we have Dennis coming in next year but really what are we pairing him with and what can we reasonably expect from a true frosh point guard? Football next year has the makings of an outright disaster unless DD turns into Nick Saban. A new qb getting broke in against that schedule early on? Good luck.

Why do I keep buying tickets and why do I keep giving to the WPC? Thats the true definition of insanity right?

Agreed, LRM. All 7-5’s aren’t created equal, and only a fool would view 7-5 next year as “stagnant.”

That said, I think the schedule will be good for us, IF we have anything in the tank. It will force our balls to drop, so to speak. We definitely won’t show up for October behind the learning curve again.

I am somewhat in between where the angry folks and Foose are at this point. I always saw this past season as more of a “consolidation” year, and I can understand how our record ended up what it was – WITHOUT it meaning bad things for our program.

BUT, overall…I wasn’t impressed by the overall talent level on the field at all. We looked physically overmatched far too often, and the play of our back seven was just shocking. Also, not especially encouraged by what we have coming in, certainly not in terms of “game ready” talent. This worries me.

That said, I give Doeren AT LEAST the next two seasons, and evaluate after that. Football is a slow build.

I would take 7-5 next season and not look back. With our schedule a 7-5 season would be tremendous progress.

All of you need to Chill!!! I think Yow is AD for a reason. Dumping the football coach after 3 years is not her style.

The reason Yow is the AD is that woodson went rogue and thought she would be a better hire then what the search committee suggested. Not a stellar moment for him.

Screw it. Lets throw the kitchen sink at Chip Kelly. Back up the Brinks truck. Until we do something balls out like that we will get absolutely no effing where. I refuse to be depressed by a weak sister program.

As crazy as that sounds I think Yow should at least reach out to him. I know there is small chance he would ever come but he is from the east coast, he would provide instant excitement for the program and the investment would pay off 10 fold. Recruiting would dramatically take off and I cannot imagine how hard it would be to get a ticket if he were the coach. I bet there would be a huge influx of donor money if Deb managed to pull that off.

For once in our existence I wish would be bold and proactive and try and make some magic happen.

Yea, the SEC ship has sailed. Yow was very vocal about her allegiance to the ACC.

Doeren will have the necessary time to get it done. I like the guy but wish he’d upgrade the staff.

Yow doesnt have a say in a potential move

NC State football is a difficult job. Period.

And we REALLY don’t want to see where our market position is there right now. Doeren has two more full seasons before anyone should even ask questions, in my view.

I agree its a tough job but for different reasons. We have too many Div 1 schools in this state and we are pretty much in SEC country. (for recruiting anyway) Thats why I think a) we were dumb to fire Chuck and b) we need a gimmicky offense to compete. I would love to see the Air Raid in Carter-F.

However I disagree with you about the market position comment. I think the infrastructure (fans, facilities, nice stadium etc) is in place for just about any one to come here and coach as long as you pay them. That always seems to be the rub with NCSU.

We will see. I think next year we likely take a step back as we break in a new qb, but I think you give DD a chance and a few more years to see if we can build and sustain something here in Raleigh.

I have absolutely no inside sources or anything of the sort. So I ask is there any buzz at all about Jalen Mc? He was a high recruit and has great size and a good arm its just peculiar that we didnt see him more this year or. To my knowledge we heard virtually nothing about him at all this season. The pessimist in me thinks that is a telling sign from the coaching staff. I hope I am wrong.

I think the trend on this site reflects the trend of NC State athletics. Its hard to be positive about anything right now. And the frustration of it all comes out here. Maybe this site has become our “couch” and a place to vent. Coming off a lack luster football season right into an obvious downward spiral in basketball is like getting coal in your stocking.

Perhaps we all need a visit from the Ghost of Championships Yet to Come.

I have said it earlier but I will say it again. The athletics of NCSU has a mid 90’s feel to it. Like we are in a deep hole and everyone is pretty much accepted that we suck in both revenue sports. There isnt any excitement whatsoever in either sport. Any “big” win is going to be celebrated like there is no tomorrow but at the end of the day we still suck.

I think a win against MissSt would get us back to at least a holding pattern in football and give us some faux hope into the off season. But there is really not stopping the train sliding off the cliff in basketball.

This team reminds me a lot of the VT team a couple of years ago. They had a very good PG in Eric Green who led the ACC in scoring and was league MVP. Despite that, they only won four games in the ACC and finished dead last. Unless something changes drastically over the next few weeks, we are pretty much headed in that direction.

Not really sure what could change in reality or how it would change. This is an odd team that seemingly has taken a colossal step backwards with the best player taking 3 steps forward. Not sure if its coaching (I suspect that factors in to a degree), lack of talent (again coaching?) or lack of team chemistry.

Something is off on this team and at this point it seems irreparable.

The black pants we already have are far nicer than these and yes, the wolf logo on the shoes and gloves are too busy. I personally am glad we’ve added some style to our threads on game day. It however has done not one da*n thing for the win column. Just win, I still dry heave daily remembering the UNSux game, need a win to help forget.

    Ditto this

I think a win over an above average SEC team would do wonders for the mindset of this team and give some of us doubters a glimmer of hope. If we get railroaded then its going to be a long off season.

so between 2012-2014 we averaged a #12 class in the nation and the best we could do is an 8 seed. I rest my case.

    Keep trying sparky

lol you think Gott’s had multiple top 10 recruiting classes? Where are you getting this garbage?

I think I’m done chatting with ya, bud.

I dont fault you for it. At all, when face with adversity and defeat many of man have simply retreated. Look at the rankings and tell if Gott has had top tier recruiting classes. Simple exercise.

I don’t know what to tell you. I guess you can take that up with the selection committee. I’m simply presenting you with facts. I don’t consider a #8 seed to be on the bubble. 2 of Gott’s 4 trips to the NCAA he’s had the team a #8 seed. I credit that to his scheduling prowess, but I’m sure you’ll find a way to sheeyat on that as well.

For the sake of the argument, so with multiple top 10 recruiting classes an 8th seed is the high water mark? I think you just made my point.

Taking out this year, are you really trying to argue that we have not been a bubble team 3 out of the 4 years?

    Seriously?
