None of this changes the fact that if we can’t start recruiting kids who want to play for us for 4 years, we won’t build anything substantial. Purvis, Washington, Lewis, and now the twins. We can’t help that kids want to leave for money, that’s true everywhere, but we’ve recruited enough talent to compete for championships and it keeps walking out the door. Sad.

This is a dark day for State basketball. What you’re telling me is that we finished in 12th place and we have 2 NBA draft picks(cat and Abu) and two kids that think they would be better somewhere else. Either the players are head cases or the coach is. All I know is you can’t win if you can’t hold on to players for 3-4 years. Unless you’re Kentucky.

You know we will be fine. It’s year 5 with Gott. Don’t you know the routine by now.

    End Season on a Bang
    Get hyped for next season
    Lose a critical player
Get rid of your problem child
Lose hopes of top 20 team next season
    Start the season off slow
    Find some answers
    Lose a few head scratchers
Get a big victory and winning streak going
    Upset dook or cheats
    Nice acc tourney
    Nice NCAA tourney
    Rinse
    Wash
    Repeat

    @pacofmac
You nailed it. Run the football. I have been scratching my head about this for 3 straight games. We should start out with a running play on 75% of our touches. 1 of 4 to try to keep the other team of balance.

I was in full support of the 9 game conference schedule. I agree with playing ND, but it still doesn’t keep you from playing 9. If we played 9, this convo dies by 25%. I can’t figure out why all these conferences expanded, the number of games increased from 11 to 12, yet we still play 8 conference games. Dumb.

I know some don’t agree and we could argue for days about it. I have never understood why we turn our nose at playing ECU. They take football seriously, they’re pretty good, and it put butts in the seats. Play ECU each year and another power 5 and we are set in the non con.

I admit, I’m disappointed. L’ville is a solid football program. I’m going to say that again. L’ville is a solid football program. We went “toe to toe” with them in what may turn out to be one of the most evenly matched games we will play all year. Their record did not reflect who they are and we knew that coming in. One of the first things I recall Coach D saying when he took this job is he told the players, “guys, I promise you that the team that makes the least amount of mistakes will win the ACC.” He is not dumb. We will get better. We made the mistakes today. Pretty simple. The two turnovers cost us the game today. Let’s move on.

I’m probably being Naive, but with a JR heavy team I think we could run the NonCon table and enter the ACC regular season with a solid ranking. 1 loss would be acceptable. 2 is ok. 3 and we’re in our typical bubble talk. Let’s just not be a bubble team this year.

Guess I missed they smiley. Bama can wear any uni combo. But I can’t recall the last time they varied from
home- red helmet, red jersey, white pants
Road – red helmet, white jersey, white pants
    Pretty standard for them.

Alabama is falling off? You’re kidding right? They just beat Wisconsin(always a good program)35-17 in the season opener. Maybe if we say “Alabama is falling off” enough, it will come true. Let’s start saying “Duke is falling of in basketball” as well.

I read on one Wolfpack site(maybe this one), that we have 27 uniform combos and only 12 games. It’s stupid. Thanks Oregon. Alabama has 2 uniform combos and they always look good, because they always win. L’ville looked stupid last Saturday. It’s gone too far. All these schools could buy poor kids books with the extra money. I’m done.

    Go State!

The uniform things is so played out at this point. The sad thing is the “classic” look this article is making reference to should be the look we have for the majority of our home games and we will only see it once this year. I like most of the red-white combos. That grayish-black is just ugly in most cases. Anywho, let’s win some football games this year! “One Pack One Goal, Baby!”

Besides the fact that they’re cheaters and their trying to delay sanctions, I’m not convinced at all that their basketball team is anywhere close to being good enough to win a national championship. I don’t see us being swept by UNC-Cheat this year. Honestly, I would expect to see college basketball go in the same direction it has been going in. More Duke-Kentucky taking the 8 best freshman to the Final Four. That’s just how he game is now. Basketball is UNC’s biggest asset, they’re proving they will do anything to protect it. The sad thing is that the NCAA has allowed a precedent to be set where recruits don’t care about these things. As long as ESPN is willing to televise all 30 UNC games the money flows and the recruits play a year or two and leave.

If Cat can play point the way with think he can, this will be a fun season. There is a lot of talent in this league. We’re an NCAA team again for sure. What seed and where we finish in league play is up to who works the hardest. Go State!

Get over the 20 years prior to Gott. 4 straight NCAA’s and 2 Sweet 16’s in his first 4 years here. That’s rare air for any coach. He deserves our respect. He is doing a good job!

TL has been in school effectively for 4 years. If he has graduated this may not be a bad move for him. If he is on the cusp of finishing his degree(within a year) I feel like it’s dumb not to finish considering he is most likely heading for a European career. I hope that doesn’t come off as condescending because he was fun to watch play and will play basketball somewhere professionally for a long time. Playing ball anywhere Is better than pushing paper at a desk job. I just hope is considering life after ball as well.

Seems to me that games use to have higher scores back in 60’s and 70’s before they had a 3 point line. Go figure, more higher percentage shots equaled more points?? Also, the days of Kareem are over. You don’t see a big man with that kind of Finess around the basket anymore. Why do kids practice dunking? That’s easy. A good sky hook, that’s a game changer. The game has evolved to the flashy things kids see on ESPN which are highlights. The reality is, highlights are rare. That’s why there highlights.

It feels different this time. 4 years ago after some quick success and trip to the Sweet 16 our fan base became rather big headed. After watching the last few years unfold and seeing Gott bring together young talent that he recruited it seems we are on the cusp of something real. No one jumped after the loss last night and said “wait til next year.” But I think this team somehow set the benchmark for what our program will be going forward. We may not always make the Sweet 16, some years we may go further, maybe we can win some conference championships. But I believe we are going to work hard and have some fun teams. If we continue to do this, the future is bright! The hard thing about college sports is letting go of the guys you have gotten to know and love as part of your team. Best wishes to Ralston and Dez. Those guys had some bright moments in the Red and White.

The Acc has changed. Conference banners are harder to come by even for the heavy weights. Notice Duke and UNC have not won any of the last 4 ACC tournaments. I am fine with that. Good coaches are going to be judged by finishing in the top 4 in the conference and making deep tournament runs in the NCAA. Gott has been able to accomplish respectability. Making 4 straight NCAA tournaments and 2 Sweet 16’s is nothing to disrespect. That’s rare air for coaches taking over and rebuilding a program. It’s time for the pundits to stop looking at State as an underdog. It’s time to become a conference heavy weight. This is our coach and our program. It’s time to punch that ticket to the Elite 8!!

I have been trying to keep an eye on Kyle’s demeanor in the last 5-10 games. It seems to me he has kept his head up and not been a “cancer” to the team. He got his shot in a big moment tonight and came through. Kyle is going to be an asset to our program, he seems positive. We need all of our players to continue to improve. The future is bright. Go pack!

Our guards can handle their guards. We just need to manage Okafor. Considering that there is not a huge difference between Freeman and Anya being in the game, I say let those 2 and Washington pick up the bulk of our fouls against Ok4(yes,I just gave him his NBA name)and make him shoot free throws. He can’t make them. Don’t let OK4 beat us down low and we move to Friday!

Looks like it’s going to be Pitt. Could be a tough game. Let’s put the NCAA aside and focus on the Acc. Loved the way Cat played today and I love our chances of making a good run in G’BORO. Looks like a win gives us another game with Duke! Love the opportunity here!
