Participantand still I watch

ParticipantScouring the interweb, I found this list of hopefuls on a Mizzou site. No Arch so I’m assuming they know he’s ours 🙂
Without knowing how much we will pay, there is no way to know where we will land on this list, but these are all varying degrees of realistic.
$3.5mm+
Gregg Marshall
Fred Hoiberg$3mm
Cuonzo
Chris Holtmann
Tom Crean$2mm
Ben Jacobson (this year aside, I still like him as a coach.)
Will Wade
Kevin Keatts<$2mm
Kermit Davis, Jr.
King Rice (iffy)MrPlywood
ParticipantOnly 3 weeks? That’s nothing compared to the unprecedented run the new coach will take State on for the next 10 years, leading Wolfpack bball back to national prominence and glory. Huzzah!
MrPlywood
ParticipantMoore [pun intended] good karma for the bank.
MrPlywood
ParticipantWell said BJD.
Just say no to “Thurd Turd”.
MrPlywood
ParticipantAnd just like that UVA holds the vaunted unx attack to 43 points. For the game. I do like more offense than UVA typically produces, but damn, it would be nice to hold the Holes under 50 for 40 minutes.
43 points is the lowest point total under ORW.
MrPlywood
ParticipantThe ACC NOW has 7 Teams in the TOP 25.
But… I’ve been told that no one but unx and Dook can compete in the ACC. I’m confused.
MrPlywood
ParticipantThere he is… bottom row, second from the left…

ParticipantYou can feel the love between KH and “coach”…

ParticipantFrankly I am underwhelmed.
Funny, that’s what I’ve been thinking all year about Gott.

ParticipantBet he ends up back at ESPN.
He can announce hard.
MrPlywood
Participantbdaz = Azzhat
BTW, did anyone else see Sean Miller at the UVA game today? He was there.

ParticipantCoaching hard. Coaching. Hard.

ParticipantGott will be taking tickets for the carousel, but that’s about it.
MrPlywood
ParticipantAnyone hear anything on Sean Miller?
Azzhat? Is that you?
MrPlywood
ParticipantThe online “chatter” about Miller is uniformly negative. It really sounds like he has no serious interest in the job, for whatever reason.
If that’s the case then I hope Arch has made his intentions abundantly clear. Onward. No ragrets.
Q: to the Illuminati – I’m assuming that coaching searches are two way streets, and that interested coaches (hopefully there are a few interested in the State job) would contact potential employers “through channels”. Correct?
MrPlywood
Participant^ They’ve been reading this site.
MrPlywood
ParticipantMarshall could set this place on fire but I can’t fathom $4+million to get him. Archie seems like a natural fit, the timing is right, but I’m not holding my breath. I think State ends up with Holtman or Keatts.
MrPlywood
Participant^pretty fair assessment, for this paragraph alone:
“Despite Gottfried’s four NCAA bids and two Sweet 16 appearances in six seasons, NC State had ample reason to fire him. The Wolfpack went 47-55 in league play during his tenure and failed to consistently play up to their talent level even in his best seasons, twice sneaking into the NCAA tournament as one of the last teams selected.”
Ending with this, though, not so much: “I wouldn’t touch that job. If making four NCAA Tournaments [in six years] gets you fired midseason [in your sixth year], it’s not a good job to take if you already have a good job.”
Another surface level assessment by the uninformed. Play some D and keep your rosters intact and that could have been 6 out of 6. I’m tired of “making the tournament” being the bellwether of a good season. Maybe it is for a mid-major who has to win the regular season and/or their conference championship, but not in the ACC when 6 to 8 teams should reasonably expect to get in.

ParticipantThat was a nice little sequence.
MrPlywood
ParticipantHell, Dookies were apoplectic THIS season when K was on his back and Dook was losing. And we all know that unx turfed Doh, even after he was AP Coach of the Year just two years prior. Everyone wants to win. Have a seat Jay.

ParticipantA voice of reason. Maybe I’ll Tweet the article to Bilas.
MrPlywood
ParticipantBest comment I’ve seen re: Calimari’s rant – Cal sure wasn’t concerned about Gott’s job when he scooped Bam.
MrPlywood
ParticipantIf we don’t get [Arch], Duke or UNC might get him in next few years, and I sure don’t want to play AGAINST him!
Many acknowledge that no Dookie or unx alum would coach at State, nor would State fans want them. Would the same go for Arch with Dook or unx? I don’t know. If he won’t coach at either place, or they don’t want him, then coaching at State would be his only shot at getting a Tobacco Road ACC gig.
MrPlywood
ParticipantCalipari goes off about Gottfried’s firing:
““We’re firing coaches in midseason. Are you s——- me? We’re firing coaches in midseason. You know what I’m putting my contract? You can fire me at midseason but you’re going to have to pay me $3 million. Oh, you’ll let me stay now, won’t you. … Every coach in the country PUT IT IN YOUR CONTRACT. What if Mark Gottfried goes on a run at the end and gets to the NCAA Tournament, which he was in four out of five years? Two Sweet 16s, which is not done at NC State. What happens if he now if he goes and wins and gets another team [in?] He had good players but they’re young, they’re like my team. It’s hard to do this with young guys.”
What’s with all the hate toward State? Coaches get fired all the time. What am I missing here? I have to say though that the comments are pro-State.
Oh and “Two Sweet 16s, which is not done at NC State.” WTF? Thanks Cal. And thanks Mark, I have to think he’s been making some calls. I say can him for good now.
