Well yeah. I mean, the Glide and Hakeem are about 50 years old these days.

I’ll take that challenge, Rye. If we win 6 of 10 I bet we’re in, regardless of ACC Tourney results. (Although I could see a scenario where an ACC team falls into Quad 4, wins on Tuesday and then beats us. That might put a crimp into my thoughts.) Five is on the fence.

yes, boys, winning cures everything. I would feel comfortable if we went 6-3. That would also help knock some of the folks we beat down lower on the bubble. 5-4 I give us maybe a 40-60 chance of getting in. Yes, we have wins over 3 top 10 teams and 4 wins in quadrant 1, but that fun-filled quadrant 4 schedule of 7 games still drags us down.

Still, I defy anybody to go back preseason and criticize Keatts for the scheduling, because without seeing it on the basketball court, we didn’t know then what we know now.

I’m 100 percent on the Keatts’ bandwagon. But take that with a grain of salt – I was on the HWSNBN’d bandwagon, was excited when Lowe had a couple early wins, and thought Gott might eventually come to his senses about defense. So maybe we should wait and see.

Interestingly, the things mentioned in the IP’s post – raining down 3’s and defenders getting scorched off the dribble – are still pretty prevalent at this stop for Coach Keatts. But we’re winning, so what the hey.

I’m thinking KK’s philosophy involves turning the other team over enough so that even if the other team shoots well, they don’t have enough opportunities for it to matter. I’m wondering if his high school teams also got beat off the dribble.

I remember when Ishua Benjamin and C.C. Harrison were going to lead us back to the promised land. We could use a shooter like C.C. tomorrow.

So Bill, if everything that needs to be said has been said, why say so much?!

Just kidding! Thanks for trying to keep this blog going now that many nonbelievers have left. I, for one, fear we’re doomed in the Dome tomorrow. Hope I’m wrong.

Yep, 3 point and help defense would have helped. So would better shooting. Without Yurt, I don’t think we score 60 – we just don’t have reliable outside shooting, outside of maybe Beverly.

But honestly, if we turn them over more than we give it up, we win. I think that’s the key to a Keatts’ team – when they force more TOs they win, when they toss it away (Markell had a tough time against Miami), we’re not offensively efficient enough to make up for it.

Scoring 80 against this defense? I consider that a win.

    Anybody remember David Angel?

No. But there’s a David Angel in Rock Hill, S.C., who used to coach my brother. Supposedly he played ball in college. Big guy. Last time Mom told me about him, he wasn’t doing well. Lots of health problems (cancer, IIRC).

It’s a guard’s game. We often run with 4. Our guards (usually) make bad decisions. You are defined by your decisions.

Heel hater, I moved away from Gainesville a few years back and don’t remember that place. I wonder if any of the spots I mentioned above still exist. Of course, I was too poor to eat out at places that cost more than 10 bucks.

AT makes some good points, but I guess I’m more patient than most. Heck, we haven’t had crap for decades except for an occasional (very occasional) sweet 16. I haven’t been able to watch the last two games, but in the ones I’ve watched, I have seen some things I like (ability to get the ball up the court against the press, attempts to play defense), and things I don’t like (poor outside shooting, ignoring the big men too much, flat-footed defenders getting blown by).

For me, the jury is out. KK is a young coach. I think he has a lot to learn and a lot of potential. Whether he lives up to it remains to be seen, and I’m certainly willing to give him a few years to get seasoning, get his guys in (particularly all those 4 stars coming next year) and see what develops.

Sadly, that is what we have to do at State. Of all the coaches we’ve ever hired, Gott had the most previous high major success of any of them, and look where that got us. We’re not going to pony up and pay Billy Donovan or his equivalent to walk through that door. Heck, we lost Sloan to Florida over money and almost lost V to UCLA for the same.

I don’t think live and die by the 3 should be our offensive philosophy this year – unless maybe Y7 is shooting them. He should be getting a lot of the shots that go to Freeman either way. Hopefully, KK recognizes that and is just trying to get the guys to buy in – but the limited minutes for Y7 in the last game concern me. Wasn’t able to watch it, but didn’t somebody say he only got 16 minutes?

I understand going small to defend their short guys, but we could have gone big and forced them to adjust. Y7 is likely just as good as our guards and chasing a small guy outside and having him run right around the defense to the hole.

So other than the Hall County, Georgia locations I mentioned above (exclusively for McCallum, because why the hell anybody would go from somewhere to Hall County if they didn’t have to is beyond me), are international joints up for discussion? If you’re ever in Paris, go to Boullion Chartier.

In Gainesville, Longstreet Cafe is a solid meat and 3. Local produce distributors said the two restaurants that demanded the highest quality produce in Hall County were – drum roll – Longstreet Cafe and Waffle House.

On Cleveland Hwy heading north used to be a place called Durango, I think. Don’t know if it’s still there. Best Mexican tortas ever. I liked that place better than the fabled El Sombrero restaurants, which locals dubbed “the hat.”

On Thompson Bridge Road heading north out of town on the right was a low slung building of a restaurant. Don’t remember the name, but they had killer fried frog legs.

Also on Thompson Bridge Road heading north, on the left near its intersection with the road that ran out to North Hall High School, was a place that served biscuits on one side in the morning and barbecue on the other side in the afternoon. Both sides were worth eating at.

Before Katrina, some joint on the Gainesville square used to have oyster happy hour – $2.95 a dozen – between 4 and 6 p.m. That’s long gone. I know they were just Gulf oysters, but at that price I could slather them with plenty of butter, garlic, horseradish, hot sauce or all of the above.

I actually found Budvar in the States a few years ago. It tasted nothing like what I remember tasting in Austria and Czechoslovakia.

Rough game. But I still like this team better than any other in the last few decades. Hustle, effort, a semblance of a plan.

So can a better football mind than me answer this: Do we have the leg to consistently kick it in the end zone? I kind of wonder myself. If so and the coaching staff is telling them to kick it short, that’s one thing. If the kid just doesn’t have the leg, that’s another.
