Knowing Chubb to be the competitor that he is, it would not surprise me in the least to see him strapped up and ready to play…and if he doesn’t, I wouldn’t be surprised either. God Bless him, and the rest of his family either way.

Isn’t it amazing what conditioning and defense can accomplish? From the standpoint of wrestling, what you may lack in talent, you can make up for it with your gas tank.

    Over-thrown balls and drops…couple that with head-scratching play calling=loser.

BOTB, I like ‘Strats too…as a matter of fact, I had one tattooed on my upper right arm when I was in the Army…my Dad just shook his head when he saw it.

archdalepack, I guess Lou knew about this area of the state, since Roland Hooks came from just down the road. I was in school with Roland’s younger brother Robert.

Back in the 90’s, a kid from here in Ernul, NC toted the pigskin for Lou Holtz up in South Bend. Lee Becton was a star at West Craven High School, and Lou came to Ernul and persuaded him to head north. I did pull for Notre Dame in those years, but now the only gold top I like is my Les Paul.

Pack’s got this…34-21. Coyote Joe almost nailed it!

Hmmm Pack in 3rd in our division, UNX in LAST. LASTLASTLAST!

Yogi, when we had the ball on the last possession, I was yelling at the TV hoping that they would break a long touchdown, but I’ll take the knee-down for the win!

BOTB, referencing “cut the head off the snake”, I always heard growing up that “if you kill the head, the a$$ will die every time”…Pack’s got this…34-21. (I’ll take my lumps if I’m wrong).

The way I see it is that the Pack has trouble getting up for a team like Marshall because of DD’s demeanor. Look at last year when we played Clemson and FSU, the coach doesn’t have to get the team motivated to play teams of that calibre…it is always teams like this (Marshall) that give us the most trouble.

Quarterback nicked up, JaySam on the sideline injured, down 14 points…sigh.

I’m old enough to remember watching DT…no way I have forgotten. I wish that we would feature him more, so that more recent generations could be educated.

What else would you expect from him? I don’t remember all of this chirping when the holes ran their golden boy Doherty out of CH…it’s like we are supposed to settle for low expectations. We built the ACC; to hell with all of ’em.

Oh, I will freely admit there’s a PTSD element to my rationalizations. Though to counter that, I also liked that our offenses (when they’ve worked) have incorporated lost arts like the mid-range jumper.

That should (also rationalizing) make you less prone to the wild swings that exclusively 3-reliant offensive teams are. I mean, at some point, you will always have a cold night from deep in a tourney. It happens.

Plus, that whole “mathematically, every shot should be a layup or a three” has made offensive play unwatchable. And it makes me so angry to watch it, especially the old PTSD “weave and heave” play.

Especially when its the “weave and dry-heave”…

Nice win in Durham for basketball, and the Pack Wrestlers took care of business just down the road, all on the same night.

Nice to see that the last two losses of the season for the holes were to two Red and White teams with a Block “S” on the helmet.
Extra nice to see a loss after the headline in the N&O that stated something to the effect of “The Sun Bowl was not one of their goals”…haha

McCallum, I guess it is an acquired taste, and based on how you were raised. I happen to like fruit cake and egg nog. I bake my own recipe of fruit cake every year, with plenty of butter, and properly “soaked”. Duplin County (or local) muscadine wine is one of the ingredients.
My Grand Pa always loved egg nog. He would always say you need plenty of “Nog” to make it good…Nog being your beverage of choice.

(this is going WAY back)…”I would rather have the clap than Carolina fever”.

This used to be a bumper sticker that was available at all Pack games back in the early eighties. I say we bring it back.

CD, great story of which I never tire of reading. Thanks for sharing your memories with us. I went to school with Roland Hooks’ little brother Robert; he was always talking about his big brother Roland!

Since I come from a lineage of tobacco farmers here in Eastern North Carolina, I had an affinity for the Red and White from an early age. My hatred extends back to when I was in third grade, and this prissy boy was asking everyone who their favorite team was. When I responded “State”, he started laughing and said “They’re just a bunch of farmers!” Oh, if only I had been holding a tobacco stick that day…

I actually heard one of our radio guys make the statement after the game “this team is 10 or 11 plays from being 8-1″…one of the greatest leaps of optimism that I have ever heard.

BOTB, interesting that you said you “checked out” in 1990. I was on a trip back home to Craven County in 1991, and stopped by Wilber Shirley’s place in Goldsboro…(Wilber’s Barbecue). Wilber has a picture of V as you enter the restaurant. I was at the counter eating, and Wilber came and sat down beside me. We struck up a conversation of things relating to NC State (based on the shirt I was wearing), and he said that he will always be a fan, but he would never send another dime to Rawlee because of how they treated V. Decisions have a long lasting affect, which is what (I’m afraid) the administration will never understand. Wilber Shirley makes some damn good barbecue, and think of the impact it has had on his life. I have never forgotten that conversation, on a happenstance afternoon on my way home.

It has taken me until now to even respond to this thread. My Dad was diagnosed with a blood clot on Thursday, and the Dr. told him that if he made it to Saturday evening, that he was in the clear.

I watched the game with my Dad today, and when the field goal attempt flew wide right, I then knew that our monumental effort was for naught.

I used every cuss word at least a dozen times each, blamed the kicker, the penalties, the (situational) play-calling, the coach, the referees, sun spots, etc…

But then, I remembered that here in Craven County there are folks that are losing much more than a football game (thanks to Matthew).

This was eerily reminiscent of the program changing loss at Ohio State some years ago, that a certain coach was unable to ever overcome.

Somehow, I don’t think that this loss is the same as the one in the horseshoe…I was supremely impressed with the effort today.

Wolfpack born, Wolfpack bred, and when I die, I’ll be Wolfpack dead.
