    Big Money rules the NCAA…

And this is why I don’t watch much college sports any more. Money had completely corrupted it.

Thanks for sharing Rick. Those lessons are the ones that make youth sports worthwhile.

Thanks for ‘listening’. I agree about kid learning. It was a tough season for her but she really worked hard. I hope that’s a life lesson for her.

    Botb,
Somehow my girls pulled off the win today.

    GREAT JOB!

    They’ll remember that for a long time…
    Success breeds success…
I just hope it wasn’t the last game of the season…

    Now…
Did you give PostGameSpeech #1 or #2 ???

    GO Rick’s GIRLS!

    POP!!!

I really had nothing to do with the won it was all on the girls. The defense finally clicked and it offense went well also.

It was the last game. They worked hard for it and I think my daughter figured out that practice pays off.

I gave them the ‘you work hard and it pays off’ speech. This was probably my favorite season ever. To see my daughter expression of joy after winning was worth every minute I put into the season.

    Coach Rick…

How are your girls doing this season?

    GO PACK!

My daughter was fantastic. She had 10 points and was responsible for another 10 or so.
I didn’t think we would run one do that was exciting.

I did coach my son one season in baseball (7th grade), and that was the only season out of 11 that I had a parent ask me “why I was starting my son and not her’s?”

I have never had that happen. If course before this season my kids weren’t the best on the team either. I tend to be tougher on my child than the others so that probably factors into it.

I liked coaching basketball and the leagues they were playing in weren’t ultra competitive so we all enjoyed it.
I have been forced to coach soccer and frankly I don’t like it. I played high school soccer but the game is so different now. And casl had a bunch of nut job parents who all think their kid is getting a scholarship and none of them are. My kids play for fun and I figure why have kids if you aren’t going to be involved in their lives.

I’d try summer league on a team of better girls, if she’s serious about it…
If you want to be the best, play with and against the best…

    Good Luck!

Agreed. This is the first year she had really been serious about it. So it’s time for her to play against better players and have better coaching.
I am looking at other leagues and also the ncsu girls summer camp.

Have you considered hitting the recruiting trail in the off season with some shoe money?

    GO PACK!

    Lol
That’s about the only way to fix my problems.
I imagine this is the last year I coach her in basketball. I think she wants to play middle School. I hope she makes the team. She is practicing almost every day do I think she will.

Rick I agree with you…..that hurts me to say! I also think many of the complaints mentioned by 13 are in fact issues with college basketball as a whole. Watch any game with any teams and you will see the things he complained about.

I am not sure why that would hurt you. I have, unfortunately, been right about the crappy coaches we have had 😉

I haven’t watched much basketball outside of ncsu. It’s just not an enjoyable sport any more. It reminds me of the 90s nba. The NCAA needs to centralize refs and clean up the rampant cheating or it will die a slow death.

Last game is tomorrow. They haven’t won a game. My daughter is playing great but she is the only person in my team who can even dribble. My second best player has a cast on her shooting hand. I am proud of how my daughter has handled herself as I know she is frustrated. Most games were blow outs. It is frustrating as a coach as I have no bullets in the chamber.
Having said that the girls are really sweet and have improved a ton.

    Thanks for asking.

I don’t agree this team looks like the last coach. I couldn’t even stand to watch last year. They played lazy and not smart.
This year’s team played hard. They never gave up. They were fun to watch. For the most part they played well at the end of games.

Keatts has a week defined system. It had been wildly successful every where he has been. The only remaining question is will it work at this level. This year is a good start. I could see us taking a small step back next year and then doing much better year three. Overall I am very satisfied with this year. It had far exceeded my expectations despite the crappy acc tournament.

I ditched cable a year and a half ago. Spectrum jacked up my rate $40 and wouldn’t come down. I ditched spectrum for internet in January as they jacked up the water $30. I was able to get 1gb dinner for what they wanted me to pay. They suck.

I use PlayStation Vue for TV and century Link Fiber for internet.
    I use firetvs for access.

I think the refs adjust to the physicality of the game. What UVA is good at is getting your to play a physical half court game.
Where I think State gets dinged is getting into a transition game and that isn’t as physical so when they do get physical they get called.

Agreed. Which is crap. A foul is a foul is a foul.

Not a VA. fan but they do seem to play sound fundamental basket ball.

I disagree. They enjoy a ‘foul so much they can’t call them all’ philosophy on defense. That hardly fundamental.

I am sure I would love it if the pack was doing it

No we wouldn’t Rick. Bennett is doing properly what Herb was never able to completely pull off. We hatted Herb. But if he could have done it and been #1 and won all but 1 of his conference games in a season we might have tolerated him but I still wouldn’t have like ole Droopy.

    Gc,
I think you are right. The success would have made it tolerable but it is brutal basketball. And if the acc ever decides it doesn’t want to ruin the game it will clean that crap up and buh-bye to uva success.
    Thanks for the correction.

Bennet can coach but watching his teams play is painful unless you like watching constant hand checking, pushing and fouling. I just have no desire to watch it. I am sure I would love it if the pack was doing it but he is doing to college sports what the Knicks do to the nba in there 90s. It has to change it it will completely kill the sport.

    Two comments
    1) she must be crazy as many in the game thread said the refs were fine
    2) this doesn’t seem to matter. The ACC simply doesnt care

Our bloody Valentine cut us pretty good but we did ourselves no favors either on d.

We have given up easy shots all year. It seems to be Keatts system. Play hard on the three and force turnovers.
That T on Dorn by TV and the refusal to discuss it with Keatts was typical of the ACC level of reffing.

    Fouls before Dorn T 5-4
    Fouls after Dorn T 14-6
    State 19
    GT 10

Still should have won but you could tell by the body language they knew they were playing against the refs.
Add the inconsistent and crappy reffing to the inherent dirtiness of college basketball in general and its not very enjoyable to watch anymore.

So, here’s my question. I believe I’ve heard it stated (usually in reference to Notre Dame this year), that the committee takes into account injuries and the record of the team before, during, and after the injury, and might “help out” a team that returns a star late in the season.

The same could (should imo) apply to MJs “7 game suspension” (How many times did they say that on Sunday?), we lost 3 of our games (UNC-G, Clemson, ND) during this time.

Is that likely to help us?

I very seriously doubt it. These are the 7 games he missed:

    L UNC-G
    W Robert Morris
    W Jacksonville
    L @Clemson (by 16 points)
    L @Notre Dame (by 30 points)
    W Duke
    W Clemson

IMO it is reasonable to think we would have beaten UNC-G if he played, especially since that was the first game he missed. Two counterpoints, though:

    1. This NC State team has no business losing to UNC-G with or without Johnson. Especially given they beat Duke and Clemson without Johnson, two of their biggest wins of the season.
    2. This NC State team lost to Northern Iowa (a worse loss than UNC-G) with Johnson, so he may not have made a difference.

The losses at Clemson and at Notre Dame were lopsided enough that I doubt anyone would reasonably expect that Johnson would have made a difference in either outcome.

I don’t see a real pattern here. Sure, we went 4-3 without him, but it was also an extremely difficult schedule during that stretch. I don’t see any reason to expect the committee to discount the losses. Especially since Johnson was missing for a reason that had something to do with his own behavior, not an injury he could not control.

Fortunately, we won’t need such consideration to make the tournament.

First off I 100% agree we should never lose to uncg. But….. If I remember correctly they found out about the suspension at the last minute.

Honestly, after the uncg, Clemson and ND loses I was in a wait until year three mode. Heck of a coaching job turning that ship around.

Gott’s and assistants names have shown up on an email.

Shocking that this would happen with Gott I tell you. At this point, I will be shocked if Keatts isn’t involved. I don’t have much confidence in Yow at this point in judging character. Keatts seems to be solid in that category – but I am not sure how he’s in the business and whom he has been associated with – that he is not involved.

The good news is that we haven’t really been involved with too many blue chippers thus far in his tenure.

    Oh well, time will tell.

I have no faith in Yow. She’s good friends with Gott. Is anyone trying to tell me she didn’t know he was cheating? I don’t buy it.

I told you guys he was a slimy cheating piece of crap and you kept defending him. You know who you are. Another bad decision by Yow.

Just like her piss poor decision to disassociate our program from the agent in 2012 and include the NCAA on the letter and our findings? Seems to me the NCAA here is like the FBI with the FL shooting. They were warned the guy was trouble.

Good to have you back Rick. I see you are still supporting the Pack and your fellow alumni in your unique and special way.

Let’s see what happens before we praise Yow.

Lol. I wanted to get rid of Gott a long time ago specifically because I was hearing this crap. So yeah, if wanting to get rid of a scummy cheating whore is a negative then I am fine with having that reputation. It’s the idiots that wanted Gott to stay that are ‘supporting the Pack in a unique way’. He is going to be a millstone around this universities neck and Yow brought him here.

I was not particularly thrilled with the hiring of Keatts. I felt You went way by hiring the local guy she knew would take the job and was hand picked by Murphy.
So far I have been very pleasant surprised. I still see some things that concern me defensively but they are improving. I am enjoying this year. My expectations were as low as they get so it’s easy to enjoy this success.
Hopefully things keep improving and Keatts turns us into a consistent winner. Playing hard is a must and we do that. It seems the skill set to grow from good to great is much different and rarer. I still don’t think we will know what we have until years three and four.
