Yes, the Shoot Out with Texas Tech with Freshman TA Mclendon scoring five touchdowns after entering the game late due to punishment for oversleeping and missing a team meeting that morning.

Good Read Ruffles. The @Texas Tech game with Chuck and TA was one I enjoyed as well.

But yes, I would have to go back an include the 70s as well. The 74 Penn State game, The 75 Florida game, and the 79 Penn State game. Wish I could find a video replay of all three of those. They were incredible and all at The Carter.

Another interesting read from The Daily Tar Heel:

    http://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2015/05/opinion-uncs-legal-defense-in-athletes-lawsuit-is-hypocritical

On May 15, UNC filed additional documents in a suit brought against the University by former UNC athletes Rashanda McCants and Devon Ramsay. The NCAA was also named as a defendant.

The suit alleges that UNC violated implied contracts by failing to provide the plaintiffs with an adequate education in exchange for their athletic performances. It also alleges that the NCAA failed to “protect the education and educational opportunities of student-athletes (including the provision of academically sound courses).”

According to documents obtained by CBS Sports, part of UNC’s defense is that there are no grounds for the assertion that UNC had a legal responsibility to provide an adequate education.

This defense from UNC is hypocritical given their support for a model that proposes to compensate athletes with education.

McCants and her brother Rashad have long been speaking out on behalf of student-athletes who took “paper” classes.

Rashad McCants told ESPN in 2014 that he thought he didn’t have to go to class.

“You just show up and play,” he said.

“You’re not there to get an education, though they tell you that.”

In short, the McCants siblings and Ramsay played for no pay but were supposedly compensated with a world class UNC education. But Rashad McCants’ unofficial transcript shows that he received 10 A’s in his African-American studies classes. In his classes outside the Department of African and Afro-American Studies, he received six C’s and three failing grades. He told ESPN that he assumed tutors writing papers for athletes was to be expected.

The University administration supports the collegiate model, under which scholarships are exchanged for an athlete’s skills. In order for this system to function with semblance of fairness, the University has to hold up their end of the bargain — assuring that students are indeed receiving a quality education, not being directed to fraudulent classes.

In UNC’s court filings is a clear instance of the University avoiding responsibility for allowing McCants and Ramsay to receive inadequate compensation.

The UNC administration can’t have it both ways. Under the current model, an athlete agrees to work without pay and in turn, bring money and prestige to the University.

If the University really believes that an education is concrete and adequate compensation for athletes’ services, they should not pretend otherwise in rebutting litigation for that compensation.

I’ve been a Norton Pro user for several years, but it has gotten to the point that it bogs down by computer to a point I can’t take anymore.

I was looking at Panda, Kaspersky, and bitdefender. This is for the home computers.

…..“I don’t pay much attention to people that are dialing ‘911’ right now,” Gottfried said.

When Gottfried was hired, he said he would go after the best players, regardless of the other schools recruiting them, and he has been true to his word.

“I’m never going to stop going after the ‘A-List’ guys,” Gottfried said. “If that means we miss and end up short-handed, so be it.”

Gottfried has built a talented roster – six of the seven players were rated in the top 100 of their respective classes coming out of high school – but has fallen short in some recent battles with Kentucky (Julius Randle), North Carolina (Kennedy Meeks) and Duke (Ingram).

“It’s not necessarily the guys you lose in recruiting that hurt your program,” Gottfried said. “It’s the guys you take that aren’t good enough. Those guys hurt your program.

“For us, we’re going after the top guys and the guys we believe that can help us compete for an ACC championship or a national championship. I’m not going to do anything different.”…

They really don’t want him at Kentucky. Why would he really go there. Nice offer and I’m no Coach K, but Kirk going to Kentucky would seem like a very bad decision.

Let’s call it like it is, Kentucky fans…

    John Calipari is getting desperate.

The news of a new scholarship offer to a three-star forward, this late in the process, signals desperation for UK on the recruiting front. This new offer likely means there’s not a lot of confidence in landing Jaylen Brown and Cheick Diallo this week. Could those guys still commit to UK? Yeah, it’s possible. But leading off a huge recruiting day with this new offer isn’t a glowing sign of hope for the fan base.

Then again, maybe Cal saw Shaun Kirk’s athleticism over the weekend and likes the potential to mold him into a player. I don’t know. I’m not in John Calipari’s head. Maybe he extended the scholarship offer just in case he misses on the other two. Again, I don’t know.

But offering the No. 192 player in the 247Sports Composite Rankings on April 27 isn’t the Kentucky basketball recruiting we’re used to seeing under Cal.

I will say, however, Kirk is VERY athletic. I’m in no way spinning this into THIS GUY IS A STEAL!, but we will be the biggest fans of Shaun Kirk if he does indeed end up at Kentucky after this new offer.

Still hoping for Diallo and/or Brown, though.

Coach Gott comments regarding the teams play today he used the word “confidence” more than once.

I’m thinking the coach is gaining more confidence himself. He quite possibly maybbe moving from I want it to I gott it. And more importantly understand that he can get it and understand the focus required to have it.

That was one of my favorite Wolfpack games ever. It was awesome.

We gott us a team right now. And guess what, Trevor and Cat going to be back next year. So happy they found away to fit in together versus fit out individually.

The heels are going to be motivated Tuesday.

I watched the Dean Smith memorial ceremony today and if those boys are not motivated to beat the heel out someone (especially NCSU and Duke) then something is wrong with them.

No doubt IMO Roy and the holes are going to be coming with guns a blazing and seeking to destroy us on Tuesday.

I certainly hope we go in that game with the right frame of mind to beat the chit out of them and knock them off their high horse.

They shot damn near 60% on the night, and a lot of that had to do with Paige, directly.

Bullseye. They shot 56% overall and 63% (5-8) from three. If Paige misses just one of those threes, we win the ballgame. Really that simple in my eyes. Paige just had a out of the norm hot hand last night. He couldn’t miss. That’s the difference in the game. Nothing else to talk about really.

Other than Abu was really impressive last night. He played a very smart and well executed game at his position. And Lacey shot was off but he was 10-10 from the free throw line.

    http://www.wral.com/ncsu-deal-to-sell-hofmann-forest-falls-through/14248515/

    The deal is off:

The Endowment Fund of North Carolina State University said Friday that a deal to sell the 79,000-acre Hofmann Forest near the coast is off after the two firms planning to buy the land couldn’t finalize the financial contingencies of the contract.

The research forest will continue to be owned by the endowment fund for the benefit of the university’s College of Natural Resources, officials said, adding that the endowment board and the Natural Resources Foundation hope to find another buyer.

“The sole mission of the N.C. State Natural Resources Foundation is to benefit the College of Natural Resources, its students and its faculty, and the sale of Hofmann Forest has always been about that purpose,” Chancellor Randy Woodson said in a statement. “We will always strive to make strategic choices that provide the best educational opportunities for students.”

N.C. State had planned to sell 56,000 acres of Hofmann Forest to Resource Management Service of Alabama, a timber management firm, and the remaining 23,000 acres to Hofmann Forest LLC, an Illinois-based agribusiness firm that planned to develop part of the property.

The two firms would have paid a total of $131 million for the land.

The land in Hofmann Forest was bought in the 1930s for research and to provide income for N.C. State’s forestry program, but university officials have said that the land isn’t generating enough revenue and isn’t being used very much anymore for research.

A group of N.C. State professors, foresters and environmentalists filed suit in September 2013, alleging that the sale would violate the state constitution’s mandate of conserving public lands for public benefit. They argue that the school has downplayed the land’s research value, as well as its environmental role, and that the endowment board didn’t obtain public input on the proposed sale, as required under state environmental regulations.

Will NC State be emotionally ready after a hard-fought FSU game? Yes. Not much heartache from last week. I think they are proud of the effort last week and ready to eliminate the mistakes.

How will the young NC State team handle a hostile Death Valley? Tough call. If they have a strong start I think it will be fine. I even see this team thriving in that type of environment.

Will the offensive line be able to hold of Clemson’s experienced front 7? Based on last week, I say yes. But it will be a battle. We were tired and weak at the end of the game last week.

Is Deshaun Watson that good or was UNC’s defense that bad? UNC’s D is just that bad. However, we don’t have the best D in the country etiher.

Can NC State’s defense make enough plays to keep the pressure off of the offense? No. But hopefully they can get closer to holding serve.

Will NC State be able to score 40+pts for the 5th game in a row? Yes. If the Cheats can put 35 on the board we can put 40. We could have put 56 on the board against FSU.

45-42 Pack. Going to be a heck of a game!

NCSU announces new sales agreement with 56,000 acres going to Timber REIT.

You were right on the money with your $900K number bill_on_the_beach. NCSU reports only receiving roughly $900K the past couple of years from timber sales. That is down from the $2 million plus roughly per year in previous years.
