Athletic department revenue outperforms on-field performance for the same reason ESPN’s revenue is higher than it should be. People are paying for a product they don’t use. Donors (subscribers) who give blindly every year no matter how well or poorly the teams perform. Eventually that bubble will burst and we will be left with a penniless and irrelevant athletics department.

National signing day. No football buzz on the message boards indicates apathy extends past the basketball program. What kind of class do we have shaping up? How does it stack up against the rest of the ACC?

The tweet was a stance I expect will cost the coach his job. Undermining the administration’s position without knowing the details of the event was not smart (I can only assume the coach didn’t know the details of the report since the players admitted they didn’t know the details when they announced the boycott).

I try not to impose my morality on others, but I’m right there with you chop. Don’t see anything appealing about a sausage party.

Regarding Fornett and McCaffrey, I don’t like it but I understand. I give running backs more leeway than say a QB or lineman since the probability of a devastating injury for a RB is so much higher than other positions. But my opinion only matters to me; I’d really love the hear CD’s take on that.

Boycott didn’t last long once the investigation report was made public. Pretty disturbing stuff in there. Man, I’m glad I don’t have daughters.

Put however much stock you want in this, but in October USA Today had Illinois 12th out of 14 B10 teams.

My view from the cheap seats is that the divide is widening and it’s widening because of spite. Each side has dug their heels in and refuses to compromise. Hell they don’t even listen to the other side let alone absorb the information to form an opinion. The message from the other side is summarily dismissed solely on the basis of the origin of the information.

My hope all along has been that Trump’s campaign talk was just rhetoric, and when/if he won, he would take it down several notches and surround himself with good folks who know what they’re doing. The PR hire makes me feel like the beginnings of my hope being squashed.

Eight years ago, people on the right thought this was the beginning of the end of modern civilization. Now people on the left are having the same reaction. Personally, my life has gotten progressively better as I’ve aged, but I know damn well it’s not because of which party occupies the White House.

Well, if you are looking for a diversion from football and want to focus on something positive…TJ Warren is lighting it up in Phoenix. And I’ll gladly admit i was wrong in thinking he wouldn’t succeed in the NBA; hope he keeps it up and isn’t just a looter in a riot.

“We’ve never had the talent and depth that this team does” – i assume you mean this coach hasn’t had this kind of depth and talent.
ACC finish around 5th with 5 or 6 conference losses; no more than 2 OOC losses.

Kelly should be fired for the play calling alone. 17 pass attempts is just stupid. Dive left…off tackle right…rinse and repeat…that would be the limit off my play calling on a day like today. But thankfully they’re stubborn…or stupid.

No point in putting my picks in since they are basically the same as BJD’s.

Rick: “I am not sure I will even vote for the first time since I turned 18.”
Paki: “You could always vote third party. If you’re going to ‘waste’ your vote by not voting for one of the two major parties you may as well ‘waste’ it sending a message.”

Sadly, I’m in the same boat as Rick. And don’t lecture me about “civic duty” (and my wife is a history teacher/civics buff); as I’ve told her and several friends, none of the Presidential candidates have earned my vote.

I sympathize with you tractor. Been around long guns all my life and in my younger days was a pretty good wing shot. I’ve never pursued a CCP because I’m more afraid to carry than not.

Interesting that Cat was projected a second round pick while Marcus Paige was projected to not even be drafted and was taken in the first round.

Recency bias. And Paige was taken at the end of the 2nd round.

” How does that earn an “especially”? ”

Because, as BJD alluded to, the coaches don’t have any control over the player in this case. If a player decides to transfer before graduating, a lot of coaches will place qualifiers on their release (i.e. can’t transfer to a team in conference, etc.)

Rick said – “The whole thing has the appearance, rightly or wrongly, of the keystone cops” – I don’t think you could have possibly come up with a more antiquated reference than this. There are at best 5 ppl who frequent this site that get the reference.

StateRed44 said – “Big picture, nobody is paying that close attention to who NC State hires as an assistant in the offseason except us.” How about prospective recruits? Think they are paying attention? Think they care?

I just don’t see it. You guys use the term, rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. IMHO that analogy has never been more apropos than discussing the turnover with our assistant basketball coaches.

It’s like betting your last $1,000 in one bet at the roulette table when you owe $20,000 to Eddie the Weasel and Fat Tony.

I agree Ply. Those types of statements have always annoyed me. It’s so Carolina-esque and snobbish. So the kid isn’t doing what’s best for you to satisfy your fandom. Because that’s basically what we are talking about. You don’t really care if Barber gets a college degree. When it comes down to brass tacks, you’re pissed he’s not exhausting his eligibility and thus making NCSU basketball not as good as it could be. What about all the players before Barber who exhausted their eligibility but didn’t graduate? Where’s the outrage over those guys not getting their college degree? Hell, didn’t Lowe have to go the way of the on-line diploma factory (from a school that is now defunct) to finish his bachelor’s degree because he never got it from NCSU (and head coaches are required to have a 4 year degree to coach D1 athletics)?

“I miss the game of the 80’s where people stayed there full time for the most part.”
There, you made my point. You’re not mad Barber isn’t graduating; you’re mad you’re not getting another year of him playing basketball for your favorite team.

Sorry for the rant, but that struck a nerve (and the passive-aggressive nature of the post didn’t help).
