Bennet can coach but watching his teams play is painful unless you like watching constant hand checking, pushing and fouling. I just have no desire to watch it. I am sure I would love it if the pack was doing it but he is doing to college sports what the Knicks do to the nba in there 90s. It has to change it it will completely kill the sport.

Agree .. UVA’s style takes FUGLY to a whole new dimension or even universe.

“Goodbye NCAA Basketball as we know it” — if that means a brand of basketball based in frundamentals, high B.B. IQ and solid coaching and development than I am all for it. Outside of Brad Stevens’ Celtics I rarely seen any semblance to the above in the NBA.

I found this in the same article to be quite laughable:
“Oklahoma is arguably the safest tournament bet in history among teams with a 7-10 conference record.” I resign myself that they will make the tournament but by that standard we should have made it last year so everyone could see a potential NBA ROY play one game in March tournament. I must have missed the injuries the Sooners suffered this season.

The problem with statistics like per possession is they don’t count once you actuslly play a game. Every game has intangibles of which some are known or not ever known that impact the outcome outside the precious money ball stats. To call ND better than those other teams because of a stat metric while ignoring the actual results is laughable.

    Two comments
    1) she must be crazy as many in the game thread said the refs were fine
    2) this doesn’t seem to matter. The ACC simply doesnt care

    Refs were not fine.
Refs did not cost us the game, didn’t help either
Send emails, letters, chats, texts, snapchats, facebook messenger nothing will matter.
Pull the kids off the court or light the refs up in press conferences and refuse to accept any punishment from the NCAA.

For most of those that watched the GA Tech game the refs were bad. Look at foul difference between the two teams without a difference in style and play plus the number of blocks GA Tech got versus the number fouls NC State got while performing the same block. Yurt got several blocks on Louisville that were clearly fouls by the GA Tech game standard.

Then a winning respected ACC BB coach questions a call and gets a T …. missed the media outrage that was all the rage when same official ignored a UNC player (with no T).

Whether the ACC cares or not I love we have an admin and coach that ain’t afraid to say “enough”. I will take my chances with KK coaching overcoming refs. Maybe the rest of the non Blues in the conference will decide to stand up for themselves too.

Agreed that there should never be an Commissioner from a member (blue) school. I would be ok for one from any other team in the league. Hell I would take the ND president as the Commisioner. He gets it!

overall our record is 20-9 theirs 19-9 by all statistical criteria l

You included one statistic that is meaningless (point spread) and left out one statistical category that is extremely important. The team’s record is adjusted by applying a weighting factor based on where the games are played.

Home wins count for 0.7 wins and home losses count as 1.4 losses.
Road wins count for 1.4 wins and road losses count as 0.7 losses.
    Neutral wins/losses count as 1.0 wins/losses.

Just my opinion but I think this is where the new formula is wrong. The penalty for a home loss and bonus for a home win is overstated. Yes there is an advantage to playing at home but not 30-40%. Plus playing Duke in a neutral NJ site is not really a neturL site .. just saying

The bigger advantage is which refs you get. They would have been better off to adjust wins and loss based on a how a team’s strengths/weaknesses match up to the very well known tendencies of how a ref will call a game ….. just saying squared

      ….

Still Coach K or Roy will finish third for COY voting behind Bennett (smash mouth wrestling coach) and the third best coach UNCW ever had.

    Are you sure about that?
Bennett’s got to beat us one more time to win the Conference and then again to win the Natty…

… and then it still all depends on when the ‘votes’ are cast…

    Good night Gents!

I meant the media will have Keatts come in fourth … Brownell is third best UNCW coach behind Keatts then Mel Gibson (first coach).

I think it will likely be scopes to Gott, we will vacate wins, and many programs will be much worse. Then we’ll all reset at whatever the new world order is. A lot of coaches and administrators will turn over in the process.

Would be my guess too. The bigger issue is the agents using money to lure the kids to be their future agent. Not all the money went to steer the kid to a particular school. Most of it was self serving for the agent.

After State was brutally bludgeoned by 30 points at Notre Dame on January 3 I thought that we would be lucky to win 2 conference games. Since then State has gone 10-4 in the conference. What an incredible story unfolding in Raleigh. Just unbelievable. Can we win 12?

    Agree.

I did not think, however, they were as bad as they looked and thought they could be 8-10 max if Johnson came back. I knew Keatts had been good at developing teams and players at UNCW so I did not think we end up missing the NIT but I did not expect this much progress. Not since Valvano have I seen a team develop and improve as much from Dec to Mar.

When he introduced himself and said “Kevin Keatts is a winner” I thought that was a little overboard. I see now that not only did he believe that but he has made his team believe they are winners.

Keatts saying State wasn’t involved in any way now looks totally foolish.

    What he said was that:
    1. Our program (his program since he has been there) is not involved
    2. The FBI has not contacted us about any investigation
    3. To his knowledge there are no known issues around the program prior to his time

1 is most likely true (and one of the things I love about him is that he is not interested in recruiting 5 star superstar players … the kind that are involved in this investigation).
    2 is defintely true
3 is also most likely true for him (whether Yow knew or not is different but most likely she heard the same rumors and was part of why Gott was fired in addition to be a bad in game coach)

Maybe I am mistaken but I was quite sure that Roy Williams said he was confident that UNC was not involved and yet they even have a player from several years back on the list. I highly doubt their list will end at three.

Coach K statement claimed he was in a cave with his team and knew nothing .. that would appear to be the most foolish statement.

Let the “it was only minor money” at UNC and Duke defense begin .. oh wait the media already started that. I guess we should have tried that in the 80’s over selling of shoes and complimentary tickets.

I am going to take the approach of one of the coaches quoted in the Matt Norlander CBS Sports article (see below). It seems odd the slow and specific leaks that have come out of the FBI investigation (surely there are plenty of wiretaps with dirt) such that it looks to be self serving. Unfortunately I don’t think actual justice or reform will be served by FBI investigation as they are very low priorities in the grand scheme of things.

“The funny thing about this is, the NCAA is in the dark,” that same coach said.

But the FBI might be to an extent as well. One coach who spoke to CBS Sports, whose program has been in contact with the FBI, said that the investigation has not been as buttoned-up or well-rounded as some might believe.

“I look forward to the day when they’ll have to say they’ve moved on from us,” he said. “I think a lot of people have a very big misconception about this investigation about how thorough these people have been and are. That’s the only thing I’ll say. Before all this happened, if ever I would have saw anything where the FBI is involved I would have been like, ‘Oh, that person did it.’ I was one of those people. But going through it, I will forever, for the rest of my life, I will wait until more of the facts come out. I will never rush to judge on anybody because this whole thing.””

“We hired Pierre and Kapita came with him. Didn’t think something was odd about that?”

Why would anybody think that odd … I thought Larry Brown made that type of recruiting legal when he hired Danny Manning’s truck driving father to be on his staff at KU and no one thought it odd. That type of BS has been allowed to go on for decades without a peep out of the NCAA.

Let’s please drop the political commentary. That nearly killed this site not too long ago. Many of our long time posters left due to that.

Social media is a blight. Let’s just agree on that and let it go, regardless of which side of the aisle we are on (or in my instance neither side, as well as no participation in social media).

On topic, Sean Miller recruited way, way too well and was too close with Calipari. I wonder about his younger brother, though the knock on him has always been that he hasn’t been a good recruiter, and didn’t capitalize on that Elite 8 run with any type of recruiting momentum.

Regardless, we have bigger fish to fry. I think Gott will be the gift that keeps on giving, though it likely goes back much further.

I was pretty sure that was my point —> both sides use social media to distort facts and outright side.

I am still trying to figure out how the 13 indicated Russians did anything different then Sorros funded lies and social media attacks/protestors all designed to upset and influence our democracy .. and same goes for Alt Right side with their distortation of facts, outright lies and social media fake news or 1/2 ass out of context news.

I told you guys he was a slimy cheating piece of crap and you kept defending him. You know who you are. Another bad decision by Yow.

Just like her piss poor decision to disassociate our program from the agent in 2012 and include the NCAA on the letter and our findings? Seems to me the NCAA here is like the FBI with the FL shooting. They were warned the guy was trouble.

Good to have you back Rick. I see you are still supporting the Pack and your fellow alumni in your unique and special way.

Maybe but I am certain that UNC-CH (along with a few other untouchables) is involved (as I witnessed and knew first hand of drugs, money and no classes in the 1980’s at that fine upstanding institution) and I am very certain that they will come out unscathed. So I stand by my comment that I could give two sh*6$ about it because justice will not be served fairly if at all.

I also strongly suspect that Coach K^2 will be railroaded regardless of whether he was involved or out (of which I think he definitely was not). So forgive me if I don’t follow another investigation that will lead to a laughable outcome of justice.

My fear is we’re just getting things going with the whole sport (and us) about to be blown apart…

No kidding. I’m surprised more people aren’t following this. I understand it is all innuendo now but just reading the tea leaves – it’s about to hit the fan.

Why would I follow it? I already know how the story will play out and UNC-CH will be as guilty as anyone but one of the few major HOF/top BB schools to walk away untouched while others, including plenty of sacrificial lamb programs, will be slaughtered. No major reform will come out of it either.

If you doubt this then look at the NCAA stance on the Notre Dame program allegation that they had easy classes for athletes. Enough said.

First back to back road wins in ACC since 1987. First 3-0 start on Big 4 rivals since 1974-1975 season.

My father, who still lives in my hometown and watched KK at UNC-W, told me at start of this season the one thing to watch for was that his Seahawks team never quit and that he makes in game adjustments like JV used to do. Turns out he was right … KK is the real deal.

The UNCG game is the only true WTF game and there was some reasons for that loss that are understandable.

UA fans most most certainly do show their a$&. You obviously have not spent 25 yrs in LA and NWF listening to UA fans s$&t and piss all over everyone while having a machine in place similar to the Carolina Way …

Plus it was a nice touch to hear an AL player yell out F$&k Trump on TV because he disagrees with politics. Saban has done well instilling the UA elite entitled culture in the team.

IU lost to a bad Indiana State team, fans booed the new coach and the new coach blamed his players for being “soft” and not understanding the new style. Shockingly the mainstream media did not see fit to call the fan base “unrealistic jerks”.

“Duncan was more pointed in his comments about the North Carolina case, saying the NCAA was prevented by a “loophole” from punishing the school.”

Did not stop them from hammering Penn State where they had no jurisdiction. I am sorry but screw them, UNC-CH and our admin if we don’t demand that Beverly be given the waiver and stand up for a real student athlete. What the heck will the NCAA or UNC controlled media do to NC State if we play him? Call 14 penslities against us without looking at anything the opposing team does? Run one of best college BB coaches off the campus and stress him out so much he develops cancer. Gives us an ACC Commissioner who sought out and got extra punishment for Clemson when he was AD at UNC-CH because the “ACC” has higher standards than the NCAA? Need I go on .. the last example and the sheer arrogance of Swafford is why I am waiting for my NC State leadership to take a stand. If they don’t then screw them too. I am done with this BS called college sports.
