I,too, had to look up baleful. I thought it was when the loft in the hay barn was at peak capacity….but am now cognizant that the CowDog has been reading too many BLS’s and is picking up new words.

However, it seems that we are becoming relevant in baseball again. Don’t remember why Ray Tanner left, but I think it was one of Todd Turner’s “last” moves.

The team has momentum. They are playing much better than in years past. I think that tone of the article is way off base….but folks are replying…
I have watched several games….have not had the opportunity to go to them…but decided NOT to be the KoD and go to yesterday’s final.
OK….in a Position to WIN (now, WHO said that?). First time since 1992….we are DUE.
However, the Double and the Double Dropped Ball (or whatever you call it) seemed like a PayBack for the two wild pitches.
We win….Palmerio has to have something in the DNA. He moved around and grabbed the base to avoid being tagged out. If you look at the Hurricane’s catcher, you could see it in his eyes….he KNEW that he had been faked out.
What a game. What an effort. Really almost gave it away a few times….but we held on.

If the scuttlebutt is correct….UNC has had this little “Love Note from Indy” for several days. Decided to release it on Friday, of the Memorial Day WE….
So, ORW is sort of “Out of the LOOP”. Me thinks that ORW will have some opportunities to consider his future…as Jimbo of Cuse fame did.
Seriously, from what I read (not verified)….Wanda Williams is not in the best of health. I know these guys have the ego of a politician….but really now.
Unless ORW has squandered his past salaries on wine, wicked women and WOO-WOO….he should be in a position to retire and leave a nice inheritance to his kids and GK’s. If he (and all the UNC CFPs) can’t figure it out…I will jump in and help him. It is NOT hard…once you figure out that you ain’t ever gonna beat the house.
So, WHY FIGHT IT….? You have GOT to have a life….

Listened to the game on WKNC. About midway through the game, when the Heels were behind, Gary Hahn said that he had the “official” info (from the ACC HQ) that IF the PACK wins (as they did) and IF the Heels LOSE (as they did), then we were IN as a 6th….and not part of the play-in or whatever on Tuesday.
NOW, we still need to pull for FSU, but the Tigs sure seem to have their number.
So, we dodge the “Les Robinson” series and get to play as the older kids….but it is NOT over yet.
If you listened to the stats, Lewyville had 5 hits and 2 runs….but they had 5 errors. That was the way it was last night. L’ville’s D SUCKS.
We kept our poise tonight….and pulled it out.
Really good game…

Listened to the Saturday game. We were REALLY lucky there. Quickly got Wake down with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. BUT, then, we beaned (or maybe walked one and beaned the other) two batters. So the tying run and the winning run were on base. BUT, we pulled it out and got the 3rd out.
Watched most of the game last night. Again, we seemed to try to give it away. Even my wife commented that a more experienced team (WF) would easily have converted. We had a miffed fly ball to the outfield. THEN we decided to load up the bases….with NO outs (memory)…I admit to yelling at Foxhall loud enough to be heard in WS. THEN proceeded to get 3 out and avoid that little potential for a 4 run (GS homer). Exciting….but really….do we NEED this much?
We seem like a pretty solid team…..but we lose focus. Hope that all the maturity that we seem to have developed (maybe Elliott is learning from Gottfried…..loose some and build character and experience) will stay with us.
We need fewer mistakes (and charged “errors”) to be competitive….
Gotta play the Louisville gang….They are 40 & 12 (Conf 23 & 4) and we are 30 & 18 (Conf 14 & 12)….according to TheACC.com Standings. Fortunately, the 3 game stint is in Good Old (new) Doak Field…

It is being reported by several high and reliable sources that Coach Cal’s “Closing Speech” was the reason that he signed the LOI with NCSU (Gott) today. He alluded to one remark in particular….
“You want Harrow’s (Ryan, formerly of NCSU) Jersey (number), I’ll give you Harrow’s Jersey (number)! He looked GREAT in it….”
Seems like the reality of how some folks have fared (on the bench…not made of pine) at KY and THEY were the one that were promised greatness finally set in.
Good for Shaun. It is a real pity that his soon-to-be former Whiteville BB coach will not get the two ducats next to Ashley Judd.
She may have to defect to Louisville….where the King of the Quickie can take care of her needs. He would gladly supply her tickets….as she would probably not try to blackmail him and spread the word about his “endurance and prowess”

OK….my turn…..since everyone has weighed in.
First….the Title, how can I put this delicately, SUCKS!
Next….it is pretty appropriate…..look at the Magic Shirt. That was the one that we got our butt whipped many times in. But, it was also the one that Gott was wearing when we whipped VILLY….so it is a mixed bag. I do NOT like the photo.
As to Gott, it is grossly unfair. He has been out on the road and trying to locate some “Talent” for us. Tonight at the Coaches Caravan (Wake County), he talked rather directly about Lacey’s defection. He was candid and stated that Trevor will be “swimming upstream” and that it is TOUGH to make the NBA. However, he did further comment about how he has called his buddies in the NBA and is trying to get Lacey some “publicity” so that he will have a better shot. Right now, Lacey needs PR. He also talked (WRAL has an interview that is almost word for word what he said to the crowd) about how the college landscape is changing…and the need for the NCAA and the NBA to make some much needed changes.
He briefly touched on Kyle. Talked about Henderson.
So, I think that the rank and file are in his corner and this headline looks like it could have come from one of the Monkey Boards where the posters have their Captain America PJ’s and under them, their Wal-Mart UNC undies.
After listening to the interviews tonight and also the “STATS” on how we have gone fro #89 to #22 (but that changes daily) in the Director’s Cup standing….I was really proud (again) of my Wolf Pack…..and the differences between US and the pretend Student-Thug-Aletes down the road is striking.

Hey, I spell my daughter’s name DEBRA not DEBORAH (as in Debbie of NCSU AD Fame). Sean, Shawn, or Shaun. The due diligence says that Sean and Shawn are tied….and Shaun is a distant 3rd. The first two are tied at 44% each.
I prefer the older spelling Shawn…..
I have never been able to get SHAWN out of my mouth when I read about Sean Connery. Looks like SEE ANN to me….but I don’t pretend to be that worldly.
Let’s hope that he does not have a daughter and names here Sue Kee Yu….now THAT would be a tough name to live down.
I have a friend whose name is Teets. He said that he daughters wanted him to change it during high school….as they were well endowed and had a LOT of nick names that were a play on their last name….
Bobby is obviously an enterprener….look at the Horse Farm venture. You gotta have that “I can do anything” attitude to be a winning coach.
He will also be in a high visibility conference….thanks to Shawn and the UCLA “mystique”, so if he does well, especially against Shawn, he has a ticket to stardom.
I want to know what Herb’s next gig will be…..will he now sit next to Seth and Vitale or whomever. Herbie the color (Bland GRAY) commentator. That is a picture….and it would be a great Sleep Aid product.
I remember after the triple OT game that he commented that it was time for a late night snack….needed a hoagie as he was exhausted. Problematico. He was ON RETAINER to Bo Jangels. I’m sure THAT went over well….and I do NOT think that he as the Bo Spokesman next year. Herbie is NOT Jimmy V. or Sidney Lowe or Mark Gottfried….I think that he, out of all of our coaches (perhaps EVER), is the least suited for the Broadcast Booth or the Analyst’s table.
What, then will Herbie DO? Maybe the Hair Club for Men will pick him up and let him be a poster child….
I, DO, wish him well….but right now, if I were he, I would be taking refresher IE and Computer Science courses and thinking about a mid life career change…..he is smart…no two ways about it. Case Western Reserve is no Slouch School….

I have mixed feelings about last night’s game. First…it was pretty good. If you want to see a remake of SW III Death Star….watch the NCAAW tonight. Picture Muffin (ND) as Princess Lea and watch her team (home planet) get destroyed by Geno (Darth and the Devil). It has all the makings of that….
As to the game….I was neutral and then started to pull for Wisc….not against Mikey. Just for the Underdog. I was the SAME way in the ACCT. I was at the game. I stayed neutral….until I decided that i did NOT want ND to win….but could NOT yell for ORW. I was part of his SILENT Majority.
I think it adds prestige to the ACC for Mikey to pull it off….

I read the comments to my wife….it is OK for the “Football” team at Wisc to “Rent a Player”….some kid named Wilson…but not the BB team.

BUT, the total Fouls were pretty even. Duke 13 and Wisc 15. It was REALLY a LOW FOUL GAME. Most of our ACC Ref’s will average in the 35 – 40 FPG range. Wisc benefited from the fouls in the first half on Duke….they had 9 and Wisc probably had only 3 or so….
BUT, the second half told the tale…..sort of a MAKE UP for all the tweeting in the first half.NOW, I am reading the ESPN Box Score Stats, but Statsheet has the same totals.
Wonder if Mikey figured out HOW to work the Refs and get some relief. He commented on the inconsistency in the first half and Bo is mad about the second half.
Reffing was really UGLY….and why the young guy?
As I said…..it is probably a done deal. The Texas AD probably smoozed Mrs. Smart….if they were smart.
Shaka has played the game well.
As to whether the NCSU vs. TX job was better….that could take more bandwidth than “Who shot JR?”
He will be an interesting coach for Texas……and obviously a contrast from Ricky Ticky B….
I did NOT say he would renig….only that he has at least one incident of it before.
But, that was the only time, I think, that he actually got undressed and got in bed with another University…..but he saw the gleam of his VCU ring in the candlelight and put back on his clothes before it got out of hand.

I did hear a rumor from a VCU grad that they were so tapped out that they could not afford another contract raise. The Strip Clubs in Richmond are featuring free lap dances for him. But, that is just an advertising gimmick….the wives and daughters of the rich VCU Alums are actually working there, themselves to “Fund” Shaka’s Previous raises…..
The ladies objected to selling their bodies….but showing it….well, that’s different.
Pure speculation…..on my part….and a few facts that match…
First…ORW is obviously GOT to be irritated. NOT in the TOP TEN? Add in the comment that he made in one of the articles where he said he was having difficulty in just getting players to even “VISIT” UNX? Wow….what did the ex fritzy headed and SOB BOT say…” Coach, will this impact recruiting?”. HMMM….maybe there is a GOD and his is consulting Jimmy V and Norm S about UNC’s past sins….
Second….Lets talk about DES. I wondered if he was actually “losing it” when he abruptly retired. He put Billy (I had a roommate that GOT Norm Sloan and DT) Gutheridge in charge. How’d that work out? Maybe Dean did that because there was NO option and ORW would not fall or kowtow to DES’ pleas to come to UNX. It took a LONG time and a lot of Anguish for that to finally happen…
Third….Jimmy B from ‘Cuse land. He told his supporters the week of the ACCT that he was never gonna quit. Then ‘Cuse told him he was and gave him his timetable. He will go down….not happy….but down….regardless of how many wins he has and how many he gets back with his “pleas”….Thus endeth the story on Jimmy B….
Fourth….Mikey. Mikey seems to be putting out Assistants for their “Manhood Rites”. They have to show that they can exist (win, recruit, etc.) in the real world. Thus, they increase their value when “it is time” or when Coach K decides that holding his grandchildren and staying and playing with them is more important than winning. Some of us reach that state earlier than others….and never look back.
Fifth….Mikey….Part 2. Mikey will go out when Mikie (as well as Mickey) says so. Ask Bill Cowher if he wishes he would have gone out earlier. I certainly hope that Mikey can retire and have quality time with Mickie….They have about 4 more years to make it 50….Mine is happening his winter….He actually seemed “HUMAN” the other night. He spoke to a commentator during the game. He stopped and acknowledged his granddaughter(s) during the entrance or exit….my GOD….maybe there is a real person behind that Darth Vader exterior. I certainly hope so….
Sixth…..Capel at ASU. Why NOT. He could earn his stripes there. Wojo and Amaker and Dawkins and Bray….There are probably some that I don’t remember or don’t know about. But, the stable full of young steeds to take over the Mikey Reins is beginning to have some depth. Duke will never be the Duke of Mikey….as UCLA has never gained the status of Wooden…
SO….my comments….let the games continue.
I am really glad that Ricky Ticky got the UT gig and wish him success…ON TO THE NEXT ROUND….who is courting who and who will be the strange Bed Fellow.
Still think that Shaka needs to take his missus with him….or if I were the AD, I would be courting (in a professional manner of course) HER and not him.
Obviously Alabama is suffering from the Technology Virus that plagues it, AR and MS….
But, at least they have ONE pilot and he is not listed as “Crop Duster”. Most of the MS pilots are also crop dusters on the side….I knew MORE folks in Greenville, MS that had pilot’s licenses than another place that I ever visited.
It is a different world down there….but having lived in Woodland, NC, it is definitely different from any other place that I have lived in NC and I have visited or have relatives in places where I will only go with locals and have a 44 mag and a big knife….

So, if the above is true, then the REAL Dance has begun…..I do NOT know all the assistants. Capel’s name was thrown out for Herbie’s job by someone that probably knows less than I do.
There SHOULD be some really interesting “bedfellows” next week….
I really think that there should be a banner headline about Ricky Ticky. We have lusted over him and had countless dreams about him coming to Raleigh. Now that he is “on the market”, we seem to cast him aside like yesterday’s news.
How can we be so cruel to a person that probably has occupied (on the BB discussions) a significant amount of our discourse.
It is interesting, the “Usual Suspects” are already supposedly “circling” over the remains of each program. We have the Capel bird spotted in AZ and the Marshall Balloon soaring high above watching everything….and the Smart drone doing double barrel rolls as it collects data from each site. However, the Mama Smart Bird has her fingers securely on the controls of that drone and the AD’s should be interviewing HER rather than HIM…..
Ask DY about how Shaka’s COMMITTMENT worked out….

In case you have NOT heard the story….back in 1979, Jimmy V (pictured in the Tim Peeler article) convinced the GM of Madison Square Garden to book Iona for two TOP 9:00 games. He actually crashed a cocktail party and literally charmed the guy into an appointment and then V took over and get his wish. Jimmy V played HS and was in the Garden for a Championship game.
First game….who cares. Second game….Iona is up against the NUMBER 1 team in the Nation….Louisville. Louisville would win the NCAA Tourney the next spring (1980). In that 9:00 game, late in the season, Jimmy V’s Iona lads took down mighty Louisville….77 – 60. Not a squeaker….and out and out drubbing.
I recall Jimmy V telling the tale in his audio book and if you google Jimmy Valvano Iona Louisville you will get several hits.
This one is cool….and I hope it works….
It is LONG. Bottom line, it was part of a series….greatest 100 Sporting Events – NYC. There is an “honorable mention” for every position. So, when you get to #67….it is V’s Iona team vs Kentucky….and the REAL newspaper article reads just like V’s ad libbed comments.
We are at a Time Share in Williamsburg with the GK….the ONLY reason we are not headed to ‘Cuse. We have a 24″ tall “Mr. Wolf” stuffed animal…that I picked for less than a dollar at a Yard Sale. It has been to about every NCSU FB and BB game (including the women…who are STILL playing) since 2012 or so. It graces the steering wheel of whatever car we drive or it is out in the den when we are watching or listening to a game.
Mr. Wolf is WITH US. He is perched atop (sort of behind….peering over) the Flat Screen in the Villa den. Looking down at the TV and watching the action. I did it as a gag and my wife said….”I LIKE IT….it is staying there”. Will have on all our RED (probably no white) and will be cheering with the GK’s.

IF and I say this very quietly, we advance to a certain unnamed city in the mid west to play some BB, I and my BIL’s wife are going…..whether her husband (my BIL) or my wife goes….is of little consequence. I wanted to go to ABQ in 1983 and she did also…but the DW and BIL voted no….this time….it is a DONE DEAL…
