I’m ready to move on from Dave if we can get the right guy…strong or less. All that said, this year was close to being decent (I know typical state season). If doeren could kick we beat Clemson and this game is 10 points isn’t nearly as close at the end. At ECU is always tough. Win ECU and Clemson and this is a different season.

Wait isn’t UNC going to sanction themselves before the NCAA does? Haha. Maybe that’s not funny anymore. But duke and unc are on a different level this year. We are right there after those 2 this year, so this is our year to be a high seed and make a run. The future looks bright too as we signed the Allen kid and will have 6-7 good players coming back next year.

Our on ball defense was fine last night. Our defensive rebounding was poor. But when you play 4 guards more than 1/2 the game along with zone defense where box out responsibilities are more difficult to define, that is what happens. All in all the hybrid zone defense shut down saint Joe’s. When we get depth and more size our defense will be well suited for our offense.

We can,say defense is about hustle and working hard, but the truth is that defense is about talent. 75% of college basketball is talent.

I agree with you that Gotts focus is not defense. His recruiting reflects that. Ralston Turner, Trevor lacey, Caleb all were poor defenders. But our program was not in a position to be picky. You can coach up defense but some players are never going to be good defenders because they don’t have size/speed/talent to be great defenders. My point was not that Gott is a good defensive coach but it was that Michigan state uva and Huggins are exceptions and we can’t compare our situation to these 3 teams who play low scoring games and really recruit to play that way. Gott is starting to get better players now so defense should improve.

To be fair, our recruits are much different guys than Michigan State and Virginia are looking at. They aren’t looking for straight scorers. They play 50-60 point games. That’s not Gott. We really recruit scorers. We haven’t(until this year) been able to recruit a complete player and we don’t play in a system that is conducive to recruiting defensive minded players, so we take offensive players. Michigan State Virginia and Huggins are unique programs and their players rarely have post college success though they win in college. We

Cat is a good player and deserved to be drafted by late second round. However, to say this is a knock on NC State’s program is not accurate. The NBA doesnt care what school you go to- they care if you can play, if you cant play yet do you have huge potential, if you can handle the media and pressure, if you can increase their fan base. When NC State produces a player who does this, they will be drafted. But so far, we have not since really Gugs or Hickson. Part of the problem of being irrelevant for 20+ years is that you dont get great talent or the talent you get has some big flaws. We will see where DSJ and Omer go next year, because they have the talent.

Football should sell out. Tailgating is fun whether you win or lose and we have decent space for tailgating.

None of the transfers have improved their position for the future or transferred and had great success. The guys who have transferred have all been guys who think they deserve to be stars but are simply not that good.

Cheering against your team is ridiculous. If you dont like the coach, sorry, but cheering for him to lose so hes fired is just insane. We need to understand what are program is…and is not. We are not Duke, Carolina or Kentucky. We are closer to wake forest, miami, georgia tech. We are going to have years like this year where we miss the tourney and cant fire the coach every time it happen. Particularly a coach that just took us to the sweet 16. Gott is not Tony Bennett that is winning with style of play and defense. Gott is a recruiter who wins with talent. He can and has won at State and some want him gone after one bad season. Some are mad about the transfers- but which transfer improved their position or was a star at the next stop? The Martins are rumored to ECU, Washington is at a mid major, Purvis isnt on pro radar at all. These guys arent great or even more than good college players. They are replaceable kids who thought they couldnt be replaced. The loses that hurt are TJ, Cat, Lacey and all left or are leaving to make money.

We do need to recuit better. You cant win in the ACC with mediocre talent. Maybe a couple coaches get last years team to the bubble, but nobody does better than that with the talent we had. The transfers hurt a bit, but the biggest issue is not enough new good talent coming in.

Phillip would at least bring back excitement. Everyone knocks Chuck, but he was exciting and the program did improve under Chuck. Whether thats just because of stadium expansion, recruiting is debateable because wins werent there, but it was exciting. We need a coach like that again…not saying Amato, but someone with personality. TOB had none and Dave is goinh down same path.

Bj wont get picked. Not a chance. He cant play the 4 and really cant play the 5 at nba level. The 5 has to be able to get up and down the court, guard the post, but also defend the big guy facing up. They also need to score besides on dunks. Bj is great help defender in college, but nba you dont leave to help nearly as much. He osnt picked this yeat. He gets down 30 pounds and can run the whole game then maybe he gets next year.

Yea, Geno has the advantage of recruiting and getting the top talent every year- talent that would be one and done in mens basketball. Then he gets 4 years out of them. What we have to remember about mens ball is that the best talent(no necessarily the best player) leaves after 1 year. They can only develop so far and it does change the game. No more corchiani/monroe or hurley/laettner type duos who play at high level together for four years.

Ironic that Geno is commenting on mens college ball. Mens college ball has never been more popular but can use a change…particularly shot clock. But, Geno doesnt acknowledge what is wrong with womens basketball. His team is basically what is wrong with womens basketball. He should comment on womens basketball which is struggling and leave the men alone.

Again, there are only 8 teams left. So most everyone is gone. Its tough to lose but you cant start blaming coaching now without crediting coaching for getting us this far. This team accomplished a lot with 2 transfers, 1 mcdonalds aa, a freshman big man who was barely a top 50 recruit and a big man who weighed 350 just last year. Give credit where its due- this team accomplished a lot.

Yes, all but 8 teams are done after tonight. Dont complain about us not being one of them. A great season for a team projected as a nit team and still very young. Good luck to ralston and hopefully we replace his shooting but this team is ready for top 15 next year.

Just keep us out of the 8/9 game. Wont get uva or duke, so likely kentucky. Need to get on the 7 line.

Cant complain about gott this year. Nobody expected us to be more than a chance at the ncaa and we are solidly in. Beat pitt and we get an angry duke team. Gott did his job this year. Tuff schedule and team is def massively better now than at beginning of season. We r very young and could be top 15 next year. We gave away 3 games this year and those 3 turn in to wins next year. Makes us a top 5 seed unstead of a 7-10.
