    As long as DD is our coach enjoy being out coached every Saturday. Our ceiling is 8-4 with him at the helm. 8-4 doesn’t win championships. This season was clear at half way mark as to the outcome. I sat back and watched as everyone touted how good we were including the media. My problem isn’t with the Wake game which I was fairly certain we would lose, because it was in Winston. Rather my issue is after year 5 we are achieving the same mediocre results. If there is so much quality depth why not hire someone who can actually coach before he loses that depth because everyone realizes he cannot coach. The window of opportunity on building off what he as done from a program standpoint will disappear quickly.

    McCallum, sorry but DD will not get my support. Support him if you are ok with the football being average on its best day. However I expect us to continue to try and push the needle towards consistent top 25. DD will not get us there. We had more than enough talent, and the schedule lined up perfectly this season, for us to achieve something great. Instead it has been blown on mental mistakes and poor coaching. All of which falls to the HC, because he is ultimately responsible. As long as DD is our coach we will be average at best. I hope another team hires him away from us.

    Rick we are in the same boat. I have watched this season go by while everyone was preaching how great we are. We are building a program the right way with all this senior talent etc is what they said. FSU and UL are not very good, but everyone wanted to make a big deal about us beating them. Truth of matter is we beat up on teams who are just not as good as we are. Any team with close to the same talent and a decent coach beat us. I am tired of folks defending DD. The only way anyone should be ok with DD is if they are ok with our ceiling being average.

    When giving the odds the home team always gets 3 points for being the home team. So on a neutral field we are 2 points better than them. Having watched both teams play this year, we are in for one heck of a fight. I think the odds makers have it right as it is a 50/50 game.

    Look we all know this year the focus is on system and learning to play together. I like the hustle and effort and if we get that for the entire season I will be very happy. It will takes KK until year three to have a pretty competitive team on the floor.

    Fact is we won. We all knew BC was going to be a tough out. Players and coaches could have all done better period. As for comparing how great DD is in record this year compared to TOB & CTC’s best years is ridiculous. Much like CTC and TOB this a senior laden team so good record is expected, and next year will hurt especially if Finley is gone. We have also been fortunate to play a very weak division this year compared to most years. What do we have to show for a great record, no hardware thats for sure. Its great our record is good but we also have 2 very difficult games to play left. Lets get by Wake and the Cheats first.

    I went to a Sox game last year and had a great time. The seats were a little on the small side though.

    There are way too many variables as to whether State would get rid of DD, even at 0-3 to close the season. First and foremost is how much the big time donors believe in him. Secondly would be job market and who is better than him that we could get. There are other variables but those two would be the biggest. I believe we keep him, not that I am a fan. I think he is great at running a program, but a terrible coach. I believe him and Dabo have a lot in common. Difference is Clemson pays for the great coordinators, and they stay there for a few years before moving on. I think if DD can go that route, we would see a huge uptick in play and recruiting. Based off our history i believe we stay status quo though. Also for the record I like our OC.

    It will also be interesting to see what the Cheats do with Fedora.

    What about Punt Returns?

    Sometimes team are just better and ND was better than us. Clemson however we should have won, and it falls squarely on coaching. I know the kids play but when you continue to have issues with kick and punt returns, why even kick to the returner? Our specials teams are a joke and have been for a few years. The fact it hasn’t gotten better falls squarely on the coaches.

    I agree 13, which is why I said we have at least one more loss in us. We will be UNC Cheats bowl game. Wake in Winston has always been tough for us. IS there really enough difference between 8-4 and 7-5 when considering to keep the coach. Unfortunately we will keep DD and probably tie our hands financially so that we cannot get rid of him. But hey we are STATE, I am sure it will work out, always does right.

    Perhaps I am not seeing the same things everyone else is. Many of you say we are on the right track, but I don’t see it. We have a senior laden team. We will take a few steps back next year, just inevitable. With FSU and UL down we had every opportunity to make this a special season. Instead we are going 8-4 at best (yes we will lose one more). Special teams was a weakness last year and continues to be one this year. Sure DD can run a program and make it mediocre but he isn’t going to win us any championships. Is our best average? If so we are on the right track.

    Agreed Tractor, Assistants are longer down the rd than I am looking though. With that being said I recognize the fact that most programs stay consistent when their coordinators stick around. It is one of the reasons FSU was so dominate for so long. I am all for bringing in better talent, I just want to see it develop quickly. It really comes down to are we mediocre 3 out of 4 years or are we consistently competing at the top of the division every year. Only time will tell that. Just as I still don’t know how good this team currently is. Sure we beat FSU and UL but they are down considerably. I have watched ND and they are a good strong team with few holes (Passing). The game on Saturday will tell me a lot, even if we lose but it’s really close.

    Tractor, I don’t think the biggest worry going forward is coaches. The biggest worry is how we replace all the experienced players that will leave after this year. We talk about the program moving in the right direction, but next year is the key to whether it is or not. We have to consistently be good. We are having a very solid season so far, but I would hate to go from good season to the next sucking like our neighbors. I am enjoying their suffering though.

    Based on the past I expect 5-3 or 6-2 in ACC play to be a good season. Anything above that is a special season. Grey, my odds on the UNC game are solely based on history. When the other team is having a crap season they tend to step up when playing the other. It’s just the nature of the rivalry. I would love beat the crap out of them! I loved watching GT beat them! The Wake game in Winston is one of my biggest worries.

    As for DD, I won’t let one good season define my opinion of him, nor would I let one bad one. While I am critical of him I certainly hope he does great things for us. Realistically any decent coach should be able to come to State and win 6-7 games a year. I wont more than decent I want consistently 8-9 wins a year. My hope is if he has a good season and gets an ext it isn’t something that ties our hands for a number of years. That would be true of any coach, as the bball fiasco with Gott has shown us.

    Count me as one on the DD not a good coach camp. Making the top 25 with a heavy load of juniors and seniors on the team doesn’t change that opinion. I am happy we have won some games and are entertaining to watch. I had us at 4-1 at this point though, just with 2 games flip flopped. Our schedule gets brutal from here on out so we will need constant focus. Finish in the top 25 against our schedule and I will easily say he had a good year. He would need to follow that up with another a good year for me to say he is a good coach.

    The rest of our schedule is below with what I think our percent chance to win would be. In order to have a great season we will need some of that luck mentioned above, as a lot of games are 50/50.

    vs UL 50% chance we win.
    @Pitt 65% chance we win
    @ND 40% chance we win
    VS Clemson 35% chance win
    @BC 75% chance win, would love to make this one higher but don’t want to jinx it.
    @WFU 50% chance we win
    vsUNC 50% chance we win

    Oh I already have it figured out. Those coaches like Bowden, Saban, Beamer, Dabo all play their better players on special teams, and typically have good special teams. Our coach chooses not do that which again comes back to coaching. I guess he just knows better than all those average coaches I just mentioned. I love how you constantly talk out of both sides of your mouth to reach the narrative you support. The simple fact is we should be better on special teams and we aren’t.

    As for Cuse, I think our D will struggle to stop them, but our offense will continue to shine. We win by 14.

    I think that is probably the biggest challenge for us as fans. We still don’t know how good a team FSU or even So. Carolina are. That make sit extremely tough for us to gage how could a win this was. Aw in is a win, but on over a top 15 team is even better. I don’t believe FSU to be a top 15 team but time will tell. It’s my biggest complaint in College football. It take 4 or 5 weeks to know who is good and who isn’t. Especially an FSU team with 2 games under their belt. When I see us play, I don’t think we are a top 25 team, but we are close. Our defense isn’t nearly as great as we thought, mainly due to the secondary. Our offense should keep us in any game. With our schedule, its a tough road ahead. Hopefully our guys are up for the challenge.

    Grey, you said special teams will only get better when we have more depth. Yet in other posts it is the deepest and most talented roster we have had in years. Which is it?

    I agree with Alias. We played well, but I also think we caught FSU at the right time. We were their second game of the year, first with a new true freshamn QB. My concern is that Freshman played very well against us. Time will tell how good a win this was. The key is using the momentum to build a good season. A WTF game will hurt a great deal.

    My point is anyone who thought we were going to be considerably better this year hasn’t been watching the past few years. DD has done a good job bringing in some talent. But I don’t see the most important thing which us getting better year over year. Do I think we get there under DD, no. However I haven’t called for his head,nor do I want a retread coming to State. The answer is to continue trying until you find your diamond. Hell it took Clemson two decades, and they just got lucky. It is most likely what we will have to do….and it sucks.

    I dont disagree with what you are saying Tractor and Rye. My point was we know what we have with DD. I don’t recall our teams getting better throughout the year with him. year over year yes, but thats due to recruiting, not talent getting better year over year. For example our OL still sucks. What I expect as a fan is to be average at 7-5 most years with the 9-3 10-2 year once every 5 or 6 years. That should be sustainable as our players get older and develop. That isnt what is happening. I don’t think we pull the trigger this year regardless of our record. They will wait one more year to let the impact of the ball change not be so rough on the finances.

    Tractor just because someone criticizes the coach doesnt mean your response should be help pay for the coaching change. I go to games, NC State gets my money already. My frustration simply comes from those who think we are getting better under DD. We aren’t, and thats not going to change.

    I really don’t get some of you. We are in year 5 of DD and you guys still seem to think you are going to see something different this year. Sure the teams we played may not have been pushovers, but most of the teams on our schedule are not pushovers. Every year we find ways to lose WTF games, and not win against better teams. After the first 2 games of the year it appears more of the same.
