I kind of laugh at people who think FT’s is something that shouldn’t be practiced year round.

I felt like my dog died last night. I didn’t cuss, I didn’t break sh*t, I didn’t sacrifice a State shirt to the flame (like I did one night in college). I just sat there shocked, appalled, in disbelief, in what I was witnessing on the screen. I woke up this morning to watch the game again. Last night was a blur because of the ending, the drinking and the emotion I experienced on the couch. I wanted to see what happened and figure out what transpired.

    Here we go:

    1) I have never seen our team play sh*t defense like they did for the last 3:30 of the game. We allowed them to roll the ball up the court to save time, instead of pressuring them and making them burn the clock up as soon as it was entered into play. Once they got the ball across half court our guys weren’t sticking their man, they didnt rotate in the zone and they didn’t hedge the screens. We were lost. SLU shot 8 shots in that last 3:30 while allowing less than 7 seconds drip off the clock while doing so. I won’t tell you how many they made. That is irrelevant.
    2) Offensively no one wanted the ball in their hands. Our best player even ran away from the ball. Why I don’t know(I do but you form your own conclusion.) Yes we missed a bunch of free throws, TJ especially, but regardless, he has got to be the man going to the line. His unwillingness to do so reflected poorly on him and I think it made the rest of the team uneasy as well. This team would only go as far as TJ would take us. No one stepped up to be alpha last night in the end.
    3) I’m going to differ on this than others. When Crews called a timeout after a made basket to set up the press Gottfried DID counter. He knew they would be pressing and he set up the press break. What happened was we got the ball in, we were fouled, we missed FT’s, they scored, they pressed, we were fouled, we missed FT’s, they scored, ETC. We then buckled under the pressure that we created ourselves. I believe the guys don’t shoot FT’s in practice as much as they should and that it is something that is taking for granted. We suck at FT’s. As a team you should shoot 75 to 80% from the line. We were exposed last night. Props to Jim Crews for doing the exposing.
    4) Lastly, and shortly, you play to win always. We played not to lose in the end and that is exactly what happened and deserved.

The Archie situation is a dammed if you dammed if you don’t. No one will ever be happy with Gottfried OR will no one ever be keeping him at this stage. The only thing I have to offer is if you switch the i and the r in his name…You do the rest.

A buddy of mine, an uppity up at Wake, says Archie is one of the coaches they will pursue.

I knew we would lose when they came back on the court for OT. If anyone DVR’d the game, rewind and look at TJ and Turner as they wait for the tip. They folded. Gave in. However you want to say it.

Hopefully this is motivation for TJ come back next year. None of us wants to remember this as his last dawning of red and white. Hopefully, TJ doesn’t either. The pressure caused us to implode. Ironic that we lose by something V invented.

I am happy to be a part of the big dance, to get to dance with the belle of the ball. However I am not happy to just have made it. I expect to win and all of us should have that attitude(which I believe we do.) For how long we get to dance depends on the young men and the coaching staff. Our defense will be a challenge especially when we go to zone. I think the zone will limit Christon driving the lane, but when he does penetrate, he will be looking for Martin on the wing. Those 2 guys alone shoot right at 40% from 3. We have to rotate in our zone or they will have many chances to shoot the long ball. I personally would like to see TJ play up top in the zone rather than the back line simply for his defensive prowess. Cat will already be up top, so my idea is why not put your 2 best defenders up top to stop the drive? When we go man hopefully Gott will have Cat sag Christon to stop the penetration of the lane. I’m proud of the boys. I hope they see all the negative things people are saying about them being in the tournament and let it be fuel to the fire. Don’t just be happy to be there. Go out and play like you’ll die tomorrow.

I think it should be a requirement that everyone drink Budweiser till we are eliminated or win the whole dam thing. I commented on the “So You’re saying we have a chance” thread that we would be a play in 12 seed aroun noon today. That was my 1st Budweiser. I have now moved on to liquor. Go Pack!

Beer then liquor, never been sicker.

Don’t believe all them wise tales now!!! I have experienced the truth behind that line and I guess you have too my friend.

12 seed play in game in Dayton. At least that’s what this bottle of Budweiser is telling me.

If they’re going to call fouls on KH with hands straight up like that, then next time he needs to knock his ass under the basket and on to the ground.

I forgot about Rion Brown. He has been Miami’s TJ Warren. Just like us, without him their easily looking at 5 to 7 less wins.

1st team is spot on. Anyone different and we should march with pitchforks. 3rd team of course is iffy. I think I would put Eric Atkins(ND) on the list for the things he has accomplished with that deplorable squad. There is no way in hell only one UNC player makes it on the list. Mackondudes (McAdoo) will be 3rd team I’m afraid, with his grotesque, puberty sprouting, alopecia beard.

The way I see it is we played with the “best” team in the nation like we belonged for 39 minutes. Unfortunately when you’re playing a team of that caliber you’ve got to play and beat them for 40 minutes. That didn’t happen.
The real question moving forward is what team will we see moving forward? Will they roll over and die or will they bring it like that for the rest of the scheduled games?
I was so freaking impressed by the teams ability to rebound against Syracuse. That type of effort needs to be brought every night. Tyler did a fantastic job taking care of the ball. The only thing he should have done different was foul the ever living F(_)CK out of CJ Fair at the end of the game.

Unfortunately I had the honor of attending the game in person. I’ll share what I seen from the game.

    1) screening is piss poor. When you set screens you initiate contact with a good base and weight in your hips. We did neither. Good screens create open shots and defensive lapses. We must get better at that.

    2) their zone killed us. You thought it was bad tonite wait till we play Syracuse. We might only score 18 points the entire game against them. To beat the zone you have to move the ball quickly. We simply did not do that. You move the ball quickly to get the defense out of position. Instead, what you saw tonite was simply a pass, hold the ball for 3 seconds, pass, hold the ball for 3 seconds, blah blah. We also didn’t try to get the ball to the middle of the zone. Why I don’t know. We could have run X or 32 against the zone to create gaps back side. Coach never tried to change this. Instead we passed the ball around the perimeter and settled for jump shots. Exactly what the zone is meant to do.

    3) if we are running plays the guys sure as heck don’t know them. Anya is on Planet Rock out there. He simply has no clue what’s going on. We must have set plays to run to create motion and then count on our guys to be basketball players and make a shot or drive when given the opportunity. To me it seems we’re just counting on our guys to be athletes and make plays or to throw it to TJ and expect him to go 1 v 3 to the middle. Coach needs to realize that he’s in a gym and not on an asphalt court. This isn’t pickup. ORGANIZATION.

    4) the last play of the game was horrible. Why in the world do you choose to double a post player who 1) can’t dribble, 2) is running the opposite of his teams basket and 3) leave the inbounds man unguarded. Did coach really expect him to dribble up the court? Yes I understand you double first pass with under 5 seconds but when you have 10+ seconds on the clock you have to play man and keep yourself between ball and basket and if you get beat help side defense better be there.

    5) Devon Thomas had 4 fouls on him with 7 minutes to go. Why in the world would you not try to get Vandy the ball to try to get him to pick up his 5th?

It was an honor for me to be a very small part of the game. Unfortunately, something has changed the perception and outlook on life overall in a short period of time. It’s all about self entitlement now. Everyone feels their owed something. A free education and getting to play football for 2 extra years was more than I could ever ask for.
