I’ll just leave this here…was on WRAL’s website this morning:

Not seeing “the hammer” here, folks.

    Agree.

When the NCAA mentions “Loss of Institutional Control” it automatically implies the Hammer of Thor. That’s their “not playing around” charge, and it is institutional, not sport specific.

Secondly, anyone who is saying MBB escaped the notice of the NCAA needs to re-read the NOA. MBB is mentioned something like 19 different times.

This may have been missed by a lot of UNC fans on their way to their weekends, but they’ll come home to some serious post-holiday blues…back to work AND the NCAA raising the hammer over their team.

    Gotta love it.

I wonder if Lee Fowler will take John Beilein out for a drink while he’s in town. Nahhhhh….doubt that will happen. (LOL)

Seriously, this is going to be a good matchup for the Pack, and one that could definitely be a marquee win if they can defeat the Wolverines in The Vault.

Syracuse, Miami and other schools should also be taking notice of the consistently deferential treatment by the NCAA.

“For us, we’re going after the top guys and the guys we believe that can help us compete for an ACC championship or a national championship. I’m not going to do anything different.”… Mark Gottfried

That’s what Gottfried should be doing, and were he not, he’d be getting excoriated by some Wolfpack fans for that.

Cal’s trying to use this kid as a street agent of sorts to grab up his real prize: Dennis Smith Jr.

After that, he will sit on UK’s bench or transfer.

John Smoltz was on the radio the other talking about how he thinks he may be the last pitcher to get Tommy John surgery and make it into the Hall of Fame.

It wasn’t an ego thing, either. Smoltz was saying that pitchers are getting it too young now, and he absolutely hates seeing 17 year olds getting it. He says they will end up having repeated surgeries and shorter careers as a result, thus keeping them out of the Hall.

    Pretty interesting opinion, IMO.

To be fair, Wilson only ranked 12th in QBR last year. At the same time, he gets the job done and is one of the most effective QB’s in the League, stats or no stats.

Gottfried should try to get involved with #2 recruit SG Jaylen Brown, stat. Adidas kid from Marietta. We have minutes.

As with all DSLR’s, it’s the glass that matters. Don’t skimp too much, and my recommendation is to stick with Nikon brand glass, even though it is more expensive. They are tougher, have better specs (no matter what salespeople and brochures tell you) and retain value longer.

My tip on buying them is to go to a good camera dealer and buy used lenses in excellent condition. Like a car, let someone else pay the depreciation. If you buy a decent lens used, and take good care of it, it should hold 70-80% of its value for several years.

I do have a D7000. It’s a nice little camera, especially when its mounted with good lenses. It focuses pretty quickly, which is essential for sports shots. The frames per second is adequate for most purposes. The battery life is nice and I like the two ports for cards. Video is … okay … on it, as the camera tends to hunt focus too often and when I shoot video I generally move over to manual focus. All in all it is a very good consumer level camera.

Cowdog, I’m growing those peppers mainly to give away to friends, and perhaps give some to by BIL to sell at the Farmer’s Market too. I’ve got some former co-workers who love hot peppers and giving them a few of them is nearly free entertainment.

Thing is, they’re a great novelty item that you can use: dip one in a pot of chili for 10-20 seconds and then throw it away. The chili will have a nice spicy heat that’s not overwhelming. Same thing for a BBQ sauce, like what you’d use to grill wings.

Something about this group gives me hope. There seems to be hardly any drama on the court. They seem to get along with each other, they play will together and seem to be coachable. (If they weren’t they wouldn’t have been able to muster second halves like they did more times than not in the last month of the year.)

A lot of the older guys came back last year stronger, more athletic and with improving skills than they showed at the end of 2013/14. I realize the biggest leap is usually between frosh and sophomore years, but I do expect even further improvements to come in this offseason. For example, if Anya adds endurance during this summer, it will be added to the strength he added a year ago. If that happens he will play more quality minutes because he won’t be tired. He’ll foul less when he’s not as tired late in contests. And as for Abu and the other freshmen? Expect a big step forward.

Other players need to work on their frees throws so that they remain viable options to handle the ball during winning time. And so on.

It’s up to them, but there really is the making of a champion-calibre team in this group. Given a top four ACC finish, they could finally have a decent bracket in the conference tournament. They would also be a far better seed in the NCAAT, putting them into a position for a long run. But…it’s up to them how good they want to be.

I don’t know about y’all, but I am kind of enjoying have my hopes up.

I’m only worried about next year right now. Win, and the bluechip recruits will come.

Agreed completely, VaWolf. I’d like to see the NCAA manage the referees and not the conferences. After watching the NCAAT and seeing other guys calling games, there are a number of more objective and consistent guys that I would love to see calling ACC games instead of being a Krzyzewski’s beck and call.

If Henderson is as good a three-point specialist as his WVU stats suggest, I think I may call him “The Sniper.”

    From the mouths of babes:

I showed my 11 year old nephew the Google Maps Pac-Man game. Twenty minutes later, he’s laughing and showed me that he had set up a map of Chapel Hill and said that Pac-Man was the NCAA chasing down Carolina’s coaches.

While it has nothing to do with KW, we should also remember that Terry Henderson is eligible next season. He played for two years for WVU, started 17 games, made 47 3-pointers (based on ~38% accuracy) over two years, shot 44% from the field overall and had 85% accuracy at the free throw line his sophomore year and averaged 2.9 RPG.

If Henderson can give two years of service like that, our backcourt is set until 2017.

WTNY, there have been rumors, yes. But nothing has been announced, and despite their being friends, I would think that Washington will do what’s best for him.

With all due respect to Patrick Wallace, he’s not an ACC caliber player…more of a SoCon kind of kid.

we have a terrific shooting guard if Trevor stays.

As a rising senior with limited NBA potential compared to the rest of the draft stock, I can’t see Trevor going anywhere. Keep in mind the relationship he has with Coach Gottfried too.

    if Kyle goes

I thought that was a given prior to the ACCT, but now I think he might stay…he was getting quality minutes and he has enough film in the tournaments for the coaches to show him what he needs to do to earn a job as a starter.

Maybe that’s wishful thinking, but I think he is a natural scorer and I’d really love to see him keep wearing an NC State uni.

I love the growth in this team…and despite the loss last night, it too served as a great lesson for it next year. You have to bring it every night, all night, when you get to that level of competition. They’ll be more ready for the ’15/’16, and all things considered, I expect good things will happen.

Welp, for a team that was picked 9th or 10th, these kids did good.

I for one won’t let the 2nd half of this game define who they are.
