Yeah, no one has won a 4-game tournament yet.

I don’t even think any one BUT State has even survived to play 4 games yet.

I agree with some that this is setting up to be a trap game for State, but Pitt gets its fair share of NCStateSh@t too. Look no farther than their bowl game this past season.

I think NC State looks sluggish, but survives a spirited (not good) performance by Pitt, 57-53.

I can even see ‘Ol Roy taking the fall and riding off into the sunset.

I think the NCAA waits for Roy to retire, then slaps the Cheaters.

Jvnm – I actually think the intensity has been there most games this year – it’s the execution that is off.

I really like this. The players seem lost, like they don’t know what to do out there on the floor. Like they are all on their own. Disorganized.

Please, DY will not even think about a new BB coach!

After witnessing DY’s handling of the TOB situation in football, I have no doubt she will let Gottfried ride off into the sunset if it comes to that. Whether or not she can name when the time has arrove is another thing.

I have every faith that she is making the best of the available choices. If the BB program has truly stagnated, she’ll pull the trigger.

Having said that, Go Pack! Get it together! We’re all behind you!

Ah, the good ol “Gott needs to go” part of the season. I was wondering if it was coming this year (hoping it wasn’t).

I think we pretty much know now what to expect from Gottfried teams now. Competitive yes. Championship no.

    Winning program? Yes, but barely.

I’ll keep watching and hoping for the Pack, but I also keep an eye on my “Backup” team so I am ready for when the Tournament starts.

Here’s a question: Who do you guys like to watch/cheer for when the Pack falls out of it? If I remember, Kentucky was this Site’s go-to team last season.

I generally go for Kansas, myself.

I just read a scouting report on them. It sounds like Paige is the only guard on the floor most of the time, with Britt playing some. They don’t like to shoot 3s, and aren’t great at it when they do it. The only way they can consistently score is on rebounds/put backs.

I bet we start with straight man, sometimes doubling down on their bigs with the wings, then shifting to a 2-3 zone as necessary.

I just assumed everyone on here already knew I full of baloney, that’s why I never admit it as brave Kappa did…

    UGH I can’t wait!

Yeah MP, I bet you are right = Mostly straight man, zone here and there

Who knows? Maybe this is the game where we start to trap opponents and/or Full court press. I know in my heart he has some wrinkle saved for this game, I just know it!

I’m no coach but I have some stinky, stinky opinions and ideas…

I like the lineup from the Duke game.

I would have Cat and Lee follow Paige Full court, try to deny and make someone else bring it up court and start the offense. Make him work for the ball on that bad foot.

I have always believed in the 2-3 zone. Perhaps sometimes set up in that after the One man press thing mentioned above.

    Foose,

That’s what I thought when I saw it, too. Couldn’t have been totally avoided but he didn’t need to lower the shoulder either.

I guess I am just so used to seeing Duke act like chippy jerks when they lose. I just thought to myself “See! There’s one MORE example!” I wish when this happens their guys would get T’d up just ONCE, fer Petes sake!

Here is some info from Leslie’s 2011-12 season if anyone is still reading this thread and/or cares:

I only compiled averages for points and rebounds (it’s all I have time for at the moment). I also broke it up into groupings of games to see trends.

I apologize for any format trouble:

    1st 6 games AVG: 12.8pts 6rebs .571 FG%
    Next 6 games AVG: 13.2pts 6.3rebs .500 FG%

    Start of Conference Play
    1st 4 games AVG: 12.3pts 6.2rebs .568 FG%
    Next 4 games AVG: 12.3pts 6.5rebs .381 FG%

    Next 4 games AVG: 16pts 8.3rebs .472 FG%
    Last 4 games AVG: 20.3pts 10.5rebs .588 FG%

    ACC Tournament AVG: 17.3pts 10.7rebs .697 FG%
    NCAA tournament AVG: 15.7pts 5.7rebs .459 FG%

This is kinda what I remembered, where CJL was pretty consistent over the first 20 games (12 non-conf, 8 conf) with averages of 12.8 points and 6 rebounds, hitting on .505 FG%.

Then he turned it on/figured it out:

Over the last 14 games he had averages of 17.4 pts and 8.9 rebounds, hitting .546 FG%.

Imagine where we would be if Abu can turn it on/figure it out enough where he can contribute 12 pts and 6 rebounds! This offense would be flying!

I will let this season play out, and the next one, really. Before making any definitive judgments. I think MG’s done enough to deserve that much.

Anyone know when MG’s contract is up? I think it’s after year 7, but I don’t remember. I really feel like if we give him 6-7 years, that’s when we are going to see the fruits of his labor.

I think when MG got here he looked up and down the bench, and saw very little he could work with. There was some talent, but some dangerous egos with it and no depth on the bench to speak of.

I think after the first two year’s guys were gone, MG started going after a different kind of animal: Good physical builds and team-mates first, talent 2nd. He recruited last year’s Freshmen to be guys who could contribute as glue/role/depth/bench players if nothing else. If one panned out as a star – even better! This has mostly worked, as there were 6-8 guys last year who could play almost interchangeably in any game (outside of Buckets). As you all know, this had not been the case his first 2 years. This year there are 10 players who can come in. That’s good depth.

Last year’s Freshman were Building Blocks, the foundation for the future, while this year’s Freshmen are leaning a bit more to the talented side. MG had the Glue/Role players, now he’s bringing in the talented ones. This is not meant to mean that Abu and the twins are not good team-mates or that the 2nd year players aren’t talented, because they are.

I am trying to look at this like a solid 5-year plan that is on schedule. Any other takers?

I am looking at Abu to be the Big that starts scoring, and makes the Offense take off at the end of the year. I feel like that is the main missing component. Can someone remind me: Did Calvin contribute consistently all year long in 2011-12, or did he come on in the last 10 games or so?

Sorry for the TL;DR. In summation, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

I guess every UNC opponent next year better make sure their backup QB can win a game for them. It seemed like the Auburn D (or maybe just Nick Fairley) illegally speared and injured every starting QB they encountered in 2010.

If I remember right Clemson, SC, Alabama and maybe Arkansas had big leads on them that year when their QB’s went down with “controversial” hits.

Good for GT and PJ! Put me in the camp of Wuffies who think PJ is one who got away. Having said that, I understand why people wouldn’t want the Triple-Option in Raleigh. But I love it!
