Anyone else think that the shoulder to BJ’s thigh while he was on the rim was accidentally on-purpose? I’m surprised that something wasn’t called there, even if only a whistle to slow things down to make sure he was OK.

Some great visuals today – everyone who played stepped up at different times.

Lots of positive body language, aggressiveness, and assertiveness for most of the game. Bench was always into the game, and it was great seeing Gottfried give Cat that little ‘atta boy’ pep talk at the end of the game. Barber was great in the second half.

Bigs deserve tons of love and praise … Lacey and Turner did their thing, but there’s such a huge difference when shooting within the framework of a cohesive offense. The ball movement early from the bigs in the high-low really set the tone for offensive possessions throughout the game. The big guys really came through in every phase today. It was a clinic for large stretches of the game. And Cody Martin – unsung hero. 🙂

I didn’t think so – live I thought ‘maybe’, but to me it looked incidental on the replays. Of course, I’m gonna watch it a bunch on the DVR to be sure 🙂

Mr. P I had that thought until I saw the replay. Seemed to be one of those wrong place/wrong time issues. Or at least I’ll give the possibility. I thought the game was rather clean even though physical and I also though the officiating was the best I’ve seen in a long time. No Showgirls and without going back to find the names I don’t know who the officials were which to me is a sign of a reasonably called game.

Before this 4 game stretch I thought a 50/50 split was a great outcome. Mission accomplished with the chance to go 3 of 4. I could nit pick some plays during the game to criticize but not the effort or heart.

Such a great moment to witness … would make a great gif if it’s out there.

tractor, Mike Eades was one of the refs – I think very highly of the way he calls games- very consistent. To me, he has always come across as truly objective in games and treats all players and staffs the exact same way. All you can ask for, imo.

Plywood, I thought it was accidentally on purpose. He clearly grabbed the ball and moved straight into BJ. But I’m biased.

    Wufpup,
My highest compliment to an officiating crew is after the game I barely knew they were present. Yes a couple times I could make a case for the Pack getting the shaft but I also could find times when I thought Duke was hosed. Other than those the crew did exactly what they should have done. Call the game and not insert themselves into the game.

    Eades is the real deal.
Go back and view the conversation he had with Anya after his demonstrations.

BTW…he whistled him immediately following the FTs.

Check the convo he had with Lacey on his return, too.

^Yes, those two examples are a large reason of why I think so highly of him. Gave Anya fair warning and a talking without getting in his face or going off half-cocked and whistling an unnecessary tech. Later, Eades has the presence of mind to make sure Lacey is ok … In my opinion, he controls the game the way a ref should – being consistent and only involving himself (herself) when necessary.

    Tweet from Wral’s Lauren Brownlow:

Quinn Cook complimented the screening by all of NC State’s big men, saying following Turner/Lacey around those was very tough.”

4 points, 4 assists and 4 turnovers is hardly huggable, I do hope he continues to find his confidence. As much as I personally am frustrated by Cat he is without a doubt a talent, I want him to succeed. Great win, tar holes coming in…LETS GO!!!

And he’s probably the best on ball defender in the ACC.

Even though it was clearly a team effort, I thought BeeJay was the player of the game. His defense on Okafor made a huge difference. Notice that Okafor started off scoring easily inside. When BeeJay came in, and Gott started sending the double team at Okafor, it really took him off his game.

On the offensive end, we finally saw BeeJay assert himself. He made a couple of real post moves and the dunk with 2:21 on the clock ended the Duke run and maybe saved the game. I think it was the Pitt game when Brad Daugherty was doing the color commentary. BeeJay caught the ball about five feet from the basket, them immediately had that deer-in-headlights look, and tried to find someone to pass to. Brad started yelling “shoot the ball”. I don’t know if BeeJay heard him, but he turned and made an awkward lunge at the basket and missed. Brad said “The Big Guy should always shoot when he gets the ball that close to the basket. Nobody can stop him”. I think Brad knows a thing or two about scoring in the low post. Maybe BeeJay is getting the message.

Also, I think it’s interesting that we had the greatest coach in the history of college basketball in the building and he couldn’t keep his young players from losing their composure for much of the second half against the “hostile environment”. He got them back together for the mini-run to cut the lead to eight, but it was too late. Plus the Pack kept their composure down the stretch (7 of 8 free throws made in the last two minutes).

That was soooooooo much fun. I got to watch Duke and K do the walk of shame to the locker room. Sad, sad faces. For Coach K, it was a mad, mad face.

My favorite moment was in the first half when Beejay was in Okafur’s face shouting, “YOU CAN’T GUARD MEEEEEEEE!” My favorite player is BACK. That was gold and changed the direction of the game. It was at that point I thought the game was winnable.

I am also confident of a W on Weds because of our rotation. OUr big guys are finally very comfortable. I like the Abu (FR) and Washington (SR) substituted by Beejay (SO) and Freeman (SO). It got a little mixed up at the end but that seemed to work pretty well for us. Beejay and Coach Gott had a lot of positive interaction too.

I think our guards have finally found confidence in our front court….finally and with reason. Coach Gott is brilliant in Feb and March. He’s a little early this year.

First game where the team gelled. Awesomeness. Rotation is everything. I think we can be this good every night.

No offense, nimbus2000, but John Wooden wasn’t in the building today.

I agree whole heartedly with CD. The refs controlled the game and called it fairly. I saw the fouls at 6-2 against state in the second half but could not complain.
Eades is a real good ref.

    Dr. Wuffette …

… and what, do tell, did Mr. Okafor say in response to Mr. Anya’s proclamation?

    and fwiw…

Uncle Roy also has four BIGs that he rotates steadily…
I’m thinking that game will be won in the backcourt or at the free throw line…

we’ll probably hear thirty five or forty whistles unless we can get Eades and his crew back …

our keys will be Anthony and Lacey v. Paige.

Bill- nothing with the force of Beejay at that moment. I’m sure there were words later. Lacey was also doing a lot of talking and having fun doing it. Yep- on the bigs. Paige and Lacey is also going to be an interesting match-up too.

Most every game I’ve been too – the refs have been invisible. That’s the way it should be. So unlike years past. Only the Wofford game, I felt that they had an impact on the game. We all know about that one. Eades did a lot of listening to K but you expect that. K knew that his team was just missing shots. Can’t get at the refs for that. K seemed reserved….made me wonder if he was under the weather. I wouldn’t mind seeing that crew every State game if they don’t get camera hungry.

Rick- I’m ok with that correction!

God- I hope this team brings it on Weds.
