I live in Apex. I have a 4WD for these instances. My wife (nurse) worked yesterday without incident (in fact at Rex next to the PNC). This is not a cataclysmic event and I will be at the game. I don’t recall seeing so much official panic (I’m not counting the couple of disasterous mid-day ice dustings we’ve had over the past few years – those were a bitch). Either cancel the game or get out of the way!

    1. Can’t make foul shots in the clutch…. well, that’s a new one. What’s next, can’t get a defensive rebound when it matters? Well, well… where did that come from?

    2. Shaun Kirk must be the worst practice player in the history of the game. When you can’t get on the floor on this team, with absolutely no offensive options and you’re consistently not shutting down pretty mediocre competition (i.e, “bad defense”, see initial premise), I have no other explanation.

The biggest difference in this game was the line play on both sides of the ball. Prescott was very (surprisingly stout) impressive, but the pressure Brissett faced (from the first freakin’ play on) was a game changer. Also, I honestly expected more from our d-line.

I don’t see a lot to build on going forward, other than probably a better than average set of running backs, which is like a shiny Corvette with an old air cooled VW 2-cylinder engine.

Not only Mav, who is as inconsistent as he can possibly be, but the Martin twins are just as inept. Thought Caleb was bringing something to the table and his shooting is as bad if not worse than Rowan’s. Without any outside assistance to Cat, we’re toast.

Last night was three hours out of my life I will not be able to get back. Just an unentertaining basketball game. I really was hoping a momentum surge into ACC play, and we just seem to only have one player, who fortunately, is one damn good player.

Same stuff, different year. Can’t get defensive rebounds when it matters. And, of course, continue to struggle at the line. Will be very surprised not to walk away with two L’s when the second W seemed to be giftwrapped. Long year in front of us, in multiple connotations.

Tau, all things being equal, I would have loved to have Russell back his senior year, however it didn’t happen and I’m not sure there were any obvious losers in the deal. The 2010 team finished 9-4, won a bowl game, the 2011 went 8-5 and won and won a bowl game. At the time I thought that Russell may have made the difference in the Wake game, but nothing else. Also, the Pack Nation was pretty stoked going into the 2012 season off the momentum of the previous season. Didn’t work out so well, but should not revise reality of the moment.

Russell’s last season could have been a special year, but he pretty much got outplayed by such luminaries as Tyrod Taylor, Dominique Davis, Kyle Parker, and Danny O’Brien, the latter being the annual choke to UMd in the march to the ACC championship. Russell couldn’t shake the NCS curse of mediocrity anymore than Philip or anyone else could when it came to winning the really big game.

I have no ill will against Russell, and I root for his success in the future, and throw out all the trumped stats you want, but I had no problem with this decision at the time and I have none with it now.

I’m in total agreement with the article in regard to this issue. I’ve heard there are some damning facts in regard to TOB’s behavior, but it still doesn’t change the basic facts. Russell was not tearing up the world at the time he departed the program. His most promising season was the tail-end of his freshman year, and a number of eggs were laid on the field during the next two years. It was obvious that missing spring practice while chasing some secondary dream was not in the football programs best interest. No way in hell did he appear to be on the track that has played out, and I don’t believe if he’d have stayed in the program, it would have played out the same, regardless.

Unfortunately, the wild card in this situation was the ridiculously high position in the MLB draft; which was in no way warranted, but offered at least some shot of a career in athletics where it appeared, real time, it wasn’t going to happen.

I’m a much bigger fan of RW that TOB, but it’s in spite of this, not because of it. For those who think somehow State’s season would have mirrored Wisky’s otherwise are the delusional ones here. Where ever TOB may reside these days, Russell should be blowing a kiss every day in that direction due to the way this thing broke out for him.

For us, well we’re simply NC State.

I don’t believe anyone is complaining about the lack of desire to play 7 home games on a yearly basis – don’t know why that was a significant part of this discussion. Merely not playing the games at home is not a solution. I didn’t think we only did it for financial consideratons; I thought we did it because it’s what BCS teams do (especially those that tend to fill their stadiums game-after-game-after-game – which is an anomaly in the ACC) to appease their fans.

The elephant in the room is the quality of opponent the ticket holders are subsidizing, future plan or no plan. I just glanced back at our recent schedules, and the most recent OOC game of marginal note (Cincinnati) in C-F was in 20-freakin’-10, and without another one in the foreseeable future. There’s no excuse for that, with a fan base that supports the program as we have. We deserve better.

I remember the series with Alabama; it was a down period in their recent history, and Gene Stallings was a total prick. Much like the Ohio St series a decade later, we could have won both games, but settled with, uhh, losing both. The home game with ‘Bama was Jamie Barnett’s first start (Jose Laureano(sp?) had gotten kicked off the team earlier in the week). It was a month after Fran hit.

I wholeheartedly agree with the point of the article, which is the total embarrassment that is our yearly OOC scheduling, which I unfortunately continue to do my small part in funding. However, I have no desire for a one-and-doner in Tuscaloosa. I see no benefit in that move whatsoever, with nothing in return. A lose-lose proposition.

Very similar to the last two times we lost to UNC in ACC tourney play: can’t score with runners at third with less than two outs. Yesterday was ridiculous; happened three times (twice with no outs) in 4th, 5th, and 7th innings. And as far as I could tell (wasn’t there, just listening), Carolina was conceding the run. We had multiple chances to just put a ball into play but could not do it, highlighted in the 4th, where Avent pinch hits for two lefties incredibly early in a game and both strike out.

To do it once is a baseball sin, but forgivable; three times in 4 innings? Utterly ridiculous. Three times in three years? Houston, we have a (serious) problem.

Most of the time, I don’t buy the “well you shouldn’t have been in a position for the refereeing to impact you” (year after year, regardless of sport???). However, as horrifically incompetent as this call (it will go down in the annals as an all-timer), this time I agree. We truly should not have been in that position.

Last year’s La Tech game was miserably uncomfortable, and it wasn’t an overwhelmingly hot day for late summer standards. For us spoiled fans on the west side, we get baked as well in an August nooner. Generally, the only fun in the game is to watch the poor bastards on the east side and know they are not only watching mediocre football, but paying good money to watch it from hell. Sounds like a long half time in the making.

I can’t see (I haven’t done the nerd models, I just don’t care that much) that a team finishing .500 could possibly miss the top 10 (if we sweep). I just don’t think it would be mathematically possible in a 14 team league.

I guess we can mock the business acumen of our administration all we want, however somehow these buffoons have a ton of people (me included) feeling trapped into a process that requires year-in-year-out support of an f’n train wreck. I assume the low LSU buyout is the net between the cancellation of a home and home (I’m guessing)?

Win or lose, I despise home schedules like we are fed. When you start reaching a certain point in your life, you realize you’re not going to be able to do this forever, and god almighty, WTNY is not a sustaining strategy. My problem is that we are bankrolling this crap and the only way to have a say is to walk away, which is having no say whatsoever.

These people do not own this product, just significantly profit from it. Good gig if you can get it.

There’s certainly a lot to like with this core group. But…., a perfect microcosm of this season (and the team playing it out) occurred in the 8th inning when we get a lead off triple and strand the guy (I believe Shepherd), all while down by three runs. Against a BC (hell, they gave up 3 to us in the bottom of the 9th – they were just hanging there for the taking) in an absolutely critical game is freakin’ inexcusable. Almost like giving up 7 in the last 1 1/3 last week (one at home and the other might as well have been) Those last two Sunday games have seemingly put the season on ice. And we really have no excuse in either.

Unfortunate for this core group, whether they’ve been specifically involved in the meltdowns or not. They don’t deserve to go out this way. Coach Avent on the other hand, he just needs to go out.

Wufpacker, I really appreciate the effort you make to produce this information on a continuing basis. I do not have the ability to keep my head up when things get absurd. And absurd they have gotten.

We were at least putting our version of “pressure” (meaning getting some people on base but not doing anything with it) through 4, but we went 3 and out for the next four innings. And the reality was as bad as it sounds….. an average little league team could have handled what we put into play.

You would think the law of averages would come into play and something good would happen to these guys (you can’t lose them all – can you?), but apparently we used up our quotient last year. And have nothing to show for it other than a trip to Omaha, which admittedly was pretty cool, but now seems more like the latest chapter in the Wolfpack curse.

Again, thanks for the info and I will be watching Sun and Mon. Why? Because it’s what I do. Year after year after……

For every K/Dean success stories, there are 25 Les/Herb/Sid/etc versions. Hell, we’re going toward that ratio here. Pointing out obvious discrepancies doesn’t make one a “hater”. We are losing too many kids for nebulous reasons that other programs don’t seem to (we should be tearing up the NBA at this point). But even given all of that, I didn’t expect this one. We lose people who seemingly have no where to go.

packalum, unless you know something I don’t (very easily true), Avent’s contract was significantly elongated after last year tournament run. I’m afraid that ship has sailed and the successful chapter that it Elliott Avent baseball is ours for years to come. Yippee!

In standard NCSU form, we will not only lose the majority of the class that put us/him on the map, and not only not make the NCAA’s, but possibly on the outside looking in for even the ACC.

Exactly what did we win in these “glory years”? We are NC State.
