Sorry to see your boys took it on the chin today, BJD. I would have loved to see them take out the Reds…Arsenal was held to a draw though, so only a one point slip in the standings for the Toffees.

On another note, I thought Mata had a pretty solid debut over in Old Trafford today.

SQL, my theory is that they are reducing their liability exposure. If someone’s precious little snowflake (pardon the pun) gets hurt because of a bus accident on ice or snow, you can bet the lawyer fees win or lose would be substantial.

If SNC needs any office space near JSC, there’s about 3 different 4-5 story buildings standing totally empty after the shutdown of the shuttle program.

SNC is based in Colorado, and has offices all around the country, including Durham, where they are full of NC State graduates. Mark Sirangelo, the executive VP of SNC, told me that the office was “all red and white inside.” For the Dreamchaser, they are leasing facilities from NASA/KSC and are going to add 500 jobs down there — hence their partnership with Space Florida.

NASA is a shell of what it once was and will never make a comeback.

Considering that Congress gave them full funding for the next generation of extra-orbital spacecraft development, and that they are going to have a test flight of the Orion capsule this year where the mission design is essentially equivalent to that of the Apollo 4 mission of 1967, which validated the Apollo flight control system and heat shield at re-entry conditions planned for the return from lunar missions. That is necessary to validate the same items – flight controls, the heat shield at 20,000 MPH (far faster than the Shuttle) etc. it is hard to agree with that.

On top of that NASA is fostering the development of at least one and probably two low-earth orbit vehicles, the Boeing CST-100, the SpaceX Dragon and the Dreamchaser from SNC. Test flights of all three are expected in the next 18 months.

I saw the ground-test article of Orion in the VAB last Thursday when I was at the Cape for the launch of the TDRS-L satellite. The flight-test article is about 2/3 completed in another building and will be put on a Delta IV in a few months.

I hope that the new-found effectiveness from Turner, Lee and others will remain in full effect and that the team does not fall back on relying on TJ for everything. If that happens, the Pack wins. If it doesn’t, State will probably lose.

I’ve always thought the real positive effect of EVT was reducing our reliance of imported petroleum since nuclear, coal and domestic natural gas can provide the base electricity used in them. As for reducing emissions, well, that’s a pipe dream right now. The only way to really do that would be a hydrogen infrastructure with the bulk of the H2 coming from electrolysis powered by nuclear.

Of course, we don’t want to pursue nuclear because nincompoops like NC WARN will make the people who moved near Harris plant after the facility was built get all up in arms. Just look at the way they concern-trolled the evening news after there was a generator fire on the non-nuclear side last week. You would have thought Harris was minutes away from “The China Syndrome.”

look no further than our own market as a micro-example where we have a pretty hot young woman who works for a local media outlet. She doesn’t remotely hide her sports allegiance and extreme bias to a local program (where she was also educated) and the stories of her ‘associations’ with former and current players are heavily rumored and seem to be common knowledge to many

I have it on very good word that those rumors are not only true, they are mild compared to the whole story. The person that was telling me about it actually made me feel sorry for her.

Who in their right mind would want to actually buy a “Division Champions” ring stamped with “8-4?” A Raleigh sports bar that wanted to showcase it for comedy’s sake?

As for mucking around with the conference championship game, how about balancing the two divisions so that one is not weak sauce year in and year out. Put Clemson and FSU opposite each other, which has the added bonus of making UNC and VT actually play a good team. Bring Miami over to the Atlantic to replace the lost member.

Or better, put the original 7 in one division and all the other ACC schools in the other.

Harbaugh does earn a few points from me for the khakis. I can appreciate the thrifty no nonsense approach to ‘fashion’. Even more so given his bank roll.

WTF happened to Pam Oliver’s hair? Is she going for the Mufasa look?

I give it to Harbaugh for wearing affordable pants…it’s football, after all. On the other hand, I have to admit that I do miss the days of coaches in suits and ties on the sidelines, though.

As for Pam Oliver’s hair, I think her weave is worn out and she needs to get down to the salon and have some new hair sewn on her head.

The Backyard Brawl was first played in 1895 and was played every year from 1943 to 2011. Now it’s dead because of conference expansion.

So one of the soak-the-season-ticket-holder games against a far lesser opponent can’t be replaced by this game?

That’s one of the many problems with college football — the first 2-3 weeks of the season are little more than practice scrimmages against teams that the major conference teams have little chance of losing. Of course the guy going to the game still gets to pay $50 each for his seats.

Bottom line: no matter what the AD’s and the schools say, they could make the game happen every year as a non-conference affair if they really wanted to. Hell, GT leaving the SEC didn’t stop Georgia from playing them every season, and this game could happen if they really wanted it to as well.

No worries, this will all be over by Friday.

Seems like forever ago since I posted that the breaking news that the NCAA was investigating UNC. It’s been…years now. And they have yet to properly own up to what they’ve done. It’s like it’s all okay or something.

Vitale is only embarrassing himself when he points to graduation rates at the same time major news media is bringing academic fraud into the light.

As for tonight’s game, I worry about a one-sided refereeing affair where UVA is allowed to grapple our players but on the other end, we’re supposed to treat them like they were fragile bits of dinner china.

^ White Boy Scott. BJD can probably explain the provenance of the nickname from last year.

I have to say that I am a bit taken aback at the negativity shown in the comments here towards Cat Barber. Anyone who expected a true freshman to not mistakes — especially at times when the rest of team is not doing a lot to help him out — makes me wonder. Hell, Corchiani made some blundersome errors his freshman year. One of them cost us a game at then-horrible Wake Forest. He learned and became a Wolfpack legend, and from my point of view, Cat Barber has every chance to do the same.

Given that he’s barely into conference season in his freshman year, I think he’s doing pretty well. At times he plays like a freshman and does silly things, but at others, he plays more like he’s at the end of his sophomore year. He sure as heck kept Notre Dame in check at the end of the game with his calm and accurate free throw tosses. Without them, we might be in a far different mood.

As for Tyler Lewis, he came out like he was on a mission, and it’s about time he showed that fire in his belly. He seemed to be pouting a lot and not giving full effort in a lot of games last month, and to see the old Tyler is a breath of fresh air.
