ParticipantThe DL played one heck of a game. You have to give them credit for attacking the weakness of Syracuse relentlessly.
Now we need one win out of the last three. I’d really like two wins, though.

ParticipantRoy would never call one of his players at the library with that wall of separation and everything.

Biblical win with the TDs coming from Shadrach and Pharoh! So you are saying it takes an act if God for us to win?
I’m saying God is NOT a ***theel.

Participant3rd and long … what BS will transpire?
Nothing puts a knot in my stomach like our defense in third and long.

ParticipantAren’t we better off just running between the tackles against these guys? Somebody tell me if you see something that says different.

Had to laugh that Corso commemorated his 250th donning of the mascot by putting the Horned Frog head on backwards. Perfect. He’s also in danger of getting some Deliverance style manlove before getting out of Morgantown.
He’s not related to anybody there so he’s probably ok.

ParticipantThe comments from Kennedy really hit home. Taking the most exceptions of anybody in the ACC and keeping them all eligible. This is where the common sense factor and having some knowledge of probability kick in. This was like Enron in a lot of ways. We were supposed to believe that they could operate so far outside the norms of statistics because they were just so much smarter than everybody else. Deep down in your gut, you knew something wasn’t quite as it was being presented, but you didn’t have any proof and the cultural norm within the organization was so strong, that nobody who suspected would dare breathe a word of it.

Participant^Doesn’t the academic support staff for MBB report to Roy? That is why Roy is responsible or at least accountable. Academic administrators should also be paying with their jobs for this one, but the athletic programs who funneled kids to the sham classes are just as guilty.
Years ago, when the should have known argument was crafted against V, the authors never thought it would be turned around and multiplied 1,000 times. I would also contend that LOIC is really based on the “should have known” argument. Unless the BOT, Chancellor, and AD intended for classes to be run like this to keep athletes eligible, this is LOIC beyond any doubt. Roy, Fox, and all of the other coaches deserve to be fired.

ParticipantAl Hartly was the first Black scholarship MBB player at State and IIRC he played at the same time as Charlie Scott at UNC-CH.
Texpack
ParticipantThis is the part of the whole scam that absolutely cannot go unpunished. This is textbook LOIC. UNC-CH is clearly not going to self-impose. They hope to drag this out as long as possible in the hopes that memories will fade and whatever penalties they are handed are for “the actions of two rogue employees in AFAM.”
Minimum acceptable penalties. Forfeiture of all games involving athletes who participated in the fraudulent classes. Vacate all tournament appearances and bowl games. Vacate all conference and NCAA Championships where any of those athletes participated. 5 year postseason ban for MBB, 5 yr postseason ban for WBB 3 additional years for football That is the only way to be consistent with what has been done to other schools.

ParticipantThe WSJ article was fairly critical. To me the key admission, not new information, was that lots of people knew, suspected, or should have known and allowed it to go on.
Roy knew there was something rotten going on whether he knew so explicitly or was just able to figure it out. That is why he got his players out of it. He also knew that his program had benefited from the system. That is why he didn’t turn anybody in or speak up. He knew the investigation would implicate MBB under his watch.
Hiring Matt Doherty wasn’t good for MBB in Chapel Hill and it looks like firing him wasn’t good either. He stuck it to Deano. The documentation by a former player and head coach that Dean constructed this and insisted that it be maintained is the most damning part of the report for the Carolina Way apologists. The only problem is that they got to enjoy 20 years of ill gotten glory in their program while we were banished to the outhouse for selling shoes.

ParticipantTexpack Sr. was at State when Reynolds opened. He always told Dixie Classic stories about the early days of Reynolds. I still remember all of the hours I spent in there exploring when I was attending Norm Sloan’s basketball camps. My favorite times in Reynolds were the ones I spent watching Valvano run practices. For a basketball junkie, that was a pretty good fix. I’m sure if I ever see the inside of the revamped Reynolds it will be with mixed emotions. That building always had character. I just hope the remodel hasn’t stolen it.

ParticipantI’ve seen several comments referring to an improved Dez Lee. The ACC has had a long line of JUCO players who struggled in year one before flourishing in year two. Let’s hope Dez joins that group.

Participant1-3 out of the last four was the best we could reasonably ask for. Get through the bye and go beat Syracuse.
As for the coaching yesterday, the timeouts use sucked. Huxtable showed signs of competence. The guys were in the right spots on defense multiple time and simply missed tackles so whoever the tackling coach is needs to try something different because you aren’t getting through.
The first scoring opportunity of the game and the gaol line chance in the fourth qtr that turned into a FG sealed our fate. I did not mind the roll out on first and goal, Jacoby didn’t execute that one. I would not have been upset with four straight QB sneaks either.
