Just another example of a grossly inflated ranking of a team because they are from the SEC.

The good news is that the Texans have hired a QB guru and they have the #1 overall pick in the draft. The bad news is Johnny Football and Teddy Bridgewater, neither one of whom is #1 overall worthy, are the best two QB’s in the draft.

The other thing that is going to happen to the Texans is that the defense, who the RSSS (Rick Smith Sunshine Squad) likes to tout as the #3 defense in the league, is going to get exposed for the toilet paper that they are as soon as the offense quits turning the ball over. The -20 TO differential simply created a bunch of short fields that limited the total yards opposing offenses were able to rack up when scoring their largely uncontested TD’s. We have a first and a second round pick starting at OLB that can’t sack groceries, much less an NFL QB. We have at least 10 crappy DB’s that Smith has drafted. It was those terrible drafts that resulted in spending all of the free agent money on Manning and Joseph which lead to cutting 2/5 of the OL which got the crap beat out of Arian Foster. Ok. I feel better now. Just realize that NC State was the BEST team I was all in for this past football season and maybe you can forgive my rant.

The most encouraging thing I have seen is the fact that Tennessee absolutely destroyed UVa. That provides some hope that the win in Knoxville may eventually mean something. The loss to MIZZOU really hurt, especially after having a ten point lead and then just crapping our pants. The scramble slap slap offensive rebound that lead to the banked in 3 – pointer may well end up being the play that sends us to the NIT.

I have a couple of reasons to still hold out hope. Lo Brown, who didn’t have the natural PG instincts of Cat Barber, got noticeably better with making the right reads in the UCLA offense as his first season progressed. I think Cat will continue to get better. The second reason is Washington/Freeman/Anya. I’m encouraged by their progress already. They might get us over the hump in a couple of Top 50 or Top 25 games that we will need in order to make the NCAAs. On the negative side, an injury to TJ would make us a 4-14 team in conference at best.

The only way this means anything is if Julius or Ms. Crowder sings on the stand about the direction they got from the athletic department. Everybody with a brain can see how this all went down, but until somebody talks there’s no proof.

The NFL is the best league in pro sports because it has a hard salary cap and non-guaranteed contracts. It is a meritocracy and stupid moves don’t last forever.

If Gary Kubiak ends up in TB we will know in two years how good Glennon can be. That would be a much better outcome for MG than Lovie Smith.

My biggest take from last night, while I was watching the Alamo Bowl, was how easily Tennessee handled UVa.

I won’t be able to fill out my Nobel Prize nominations accurately (especially the Nobel Prize for Despair) unless you can recover all of that data so any recovery would be greatly appreciated. Please note also the avatar.

So Cat scores zero of a potential three FTs in the final minute. Clutch.

That was awful. A forced three with 11 seconds.

The TO with 35 secs was a 30. It was use it or lose it.

We are in deep trouble unless Cat gives the offense a spark in the second half.

We have a pair of threes in the last few minutes. We have to get the zone offense going.

I’m over 50 but I’m pretty sure I can take Turner off the dribble.

These guys are fun to watch. Everyone of them is flawed in some way, but they understand their limitations, play together, and allow each other’s strengths to shine. The freshmen big guys have already improved from the first of the year. That is the most encouraging thing about this team.

Vandy didn’t allow the foul trouble to take him out of the game mentally. When he came back in he was able to contribute right away. The fact that Tennessee made a run, we were on the road, and we didn’t fold is huge going forward.

This will be a nice win come March. You saw flashes of why I think Washington, Freeman, and Anya will dominate in two years.

Never play against Dez Lee on a court with chain nets.
