Full Disclosure: I needed a break from the latest coaching change drama. Somehow it was more fun chasing tail numbers a dozen years ago.

I stumbled across this video of Verlon Thompson at the McFarlane home in Raleigh, 9/26/2016:

    I’m wondering two things:
    1. Who are the McFarlanes?
    2. Were any of y’all there?

    Just curious.

^ Chop, are you referring to the 2002 GA Tech game… when GT got an extra play on 3rd down off of their own pre-snap penalty?

^^ CowDog, beautiful extended metaphor, as always. The old troubadour from Monahans, TX would be proud. At this point in the season, I’ve got us somewhere between Bag of Bones (vs ECU) and a mighty good ride on Joe Walker’s Mare (Clemson). I guess One Mint Julep actually was the cause of it all.

Sorry to be the bearer of sad news. Guy Clark passed on to glory this morning at the age of 74. May he rest in peace as his words and music live on.

    AsheWolf,
Mighty fine, brother. Ray Wylie Hubbard, Hayes Carll, Larry Cordle, and now Tom Russell. I believe I’ve died and gone to Raleigh.

    WhiteShoes67,
I can’t wait for the MerleFest set with Guy Clark. Break that thing out of the vault for us.

Thanks, LRM. I like McMurtry, looking forward to the rest.

CowDog, I’ll check out Dave Alvin while I’m at it. Meanwhile, here’s an extra helping of GC. Two of my favorites, among many others.

Great win. We still should’ve plunked that catcher. It’s a matter of principle. Baseball code.

Tell you what. If Dan Jenkins will buy the team chicken fried steaks at Herb’s Cafe, we’ll call it even.

I’m as disappointed as anybody. I was on Facebook after the game and saw this:

As a die-hard fan & alum, it made me feel a little better.

    Here’s to better days.

At the CLT coaches caravan, DY said we’re “really close” to inking a home & home w/Miss. State. She wanted to schedule Vandy, but so does every other school in the country now that Franklin’s gone. She also said “it’s up to the coaches”, but we’d like to schedule a “non-conference” series with Duke. On the subject of scheduling, DY got some nice digs in on Fridge and Prince Tassel Loafer (w/o naming names).

FWIW, I’m with you, BJD. That Peach Bowl was a blast. It almost made up for the one against VT, when at least 5 Hokies spontaneously had seizures when Dooley ran out of timeouts. Just in time to get the kicker on the field to hit the game winner from downtown.

I went to the coaches caravan in CLT this week. There was a lot of talk about the new alt helmet. Doeren said that helmet was the tipping point in the decision of a significant recruit who committed on Tuesday. He said that he couldn’t mention names, but that “StateFans.com could probably figure out who it was pretty quick”. DY acknowledged the fact that we’re 0-forever in black. She said we will only wear that “Pack in Black” helmet in a sure-win situation. You listening, Presbyterian College?

My wife walked in right at the “Spin-A-Rooni” comment against Cat. Her response (leaving the room) was “Damn, that guys drunker than Don Meredith and Pat Summerall.” She meant that as a compliment, even as she aged herself, ever so slightly. I refrained from pointing this fact out, and lived to post this comment.
