Sorry PA44, as others have stated, recruiting is a process. It takes years to build the kind of talent like Clemson and FSU. Had TPB recruited worth a flip, we might not be in the situation we are in today – but he and his staff did not care to recruit. We dug a hole and it will take time to get out.

The best way to get out of that hole is to support our team and our coach. Bring in a few highly ranked players, which DD is starting to do. I hate to say give it time (or WTNY) because that was the motto for Sendek and Lowe but patience is a good thing.

I have grown to really enjoy hockey. I think I understand the game and the nuances well enough to be more than the casual fan.

No, I do not expect any significant improvement. I see another battle just to remain competitive and to fight to stay out of the cellar. having said that, I will go to my share of games (5-8 probably) when it fits the schedule and I can score some ticket deals. I go for the entertainment and for the hopes we can put on a good showing, but I dont expect to be buying playoff tickets this year.

I also rebuilding is a process and takes several years, but golly gee, we have been rebuilding for several years and WVWolf points out, not a lot of fruit to show for it.

It should be a compliment to have his name mentioned. Seems we are doing things the right way, and in spite of a poor W/L record last year, the foundation blocks are being set.

The hope is bigger programs do come calling – it means even more success for the Pack. The hope is also that if that is the case, we can retain him. Wiscy was the biggest fear and we jumped that hurdle before his first game.

Foose, with all due respect, JB is split out wide but mostly to get him out of the way. Our only real QB option is not out there to block. How many of us cringed when JB went down holding a leg? We have Leatham and a true Frosh (granted a very talented one) that are our backups.

JB is out there to get in the way but not block, and DB assigned to him leaves right away – I have isolated that to look at what happens. Now if we were to throw……..opens up something emtirely.

My take on the Wolfcat – offense has 10 players to block 11 (the ball carrier is the 11th). When you take the QB and split him wide, essentially you are now 9 on 11. now add to the fact we have not thrown out of the formation, the D can now put 8 or 9 in the box.

Until we throw and throw more than once to say we have done it, the formation will not be effective. The numbers just dont allow it. If this is a great formation, others would be using it also, but I think others realize playing 9 on 11 does not work.

Last comment – this formation might work if one team has superior talent and simply more speed to get around the corner. OT, Dayes, Samuels, and even Cherry and Underwood can make a difference but they are not superior to the teams we will see from here out.

The NBA is full of wacky tobacky – they do not suspend for pot. For an NBA suspension it has to be something more lethal and dangerous.

My entire complaint with the D was the missed tackles. Several times we had a hit (or hits) in the backfield or around the line of scrimmage only to see the tackle broken and a big gainer. As Alpha pointed out above, that pay is one that sticks out in my mind – a gain of 35 after what should have been a 3rd down stop and loss of yardage.

Tackling can be fixed so this part is encouraging.

Sorry I may be in the minority here but I would much prefer a clean coach and fewer wins than a dirty coach and a couple more wins.

For all the cracks on Canada, here is what I saw and was very impressed in the 4th Qtr. When we were driving, we were successful die to formation and execution.

They were playing man, and we would line up 2 or 3 receivers to one side, one on the other. Throw a quick hitch that is virtually unstoppable with an accurate throw. Gain 5-8 yards, then the receivers were switching sides of the field. The GS defense was confused and they were not getting out to cover our receivers due to the flopping sides and confusion.

We actually had several uncovered opportunities and the quick snaps before the D was ready enabled this to be effective. Then when they crowd the line to stop that hitch, the wheel routes open up and Dayes is able to get behind the D for the winning TD.

If they play zone, it is totally different, but in the man, flopping the WR’s and snapping quick was the difference.

13OT, I think your post signifies the problems. You mention how bad DD is, but then you mention we have no talent. That was the whole point of this thread, that TOB left the cupboard completely bare. The kids DD is bringing in are the ones who can hopefully spring the big plays.

Good for Nik, though I hope the majority of his scoring comes in 1’s and not 3’s. His kickoffs can also be a factor by forcing touchbacks and not allowing the returns. It’s the little things in the game that add up to a lot.

I am excited and very cautious at the same time. All the hype, all the good things I have heard from the team about his leadership and poise – very encouraging and very scary.

Football is one play away from, and I wish no ill will on anyone, but when all rests on one player, if that one player goes down………

Also, I hope our D is improved, otherwise will still be tough.

Was traveling last night and had some hotel time to kill. Just for fun, I looked up the stats of the guys drafted just to see how they were doing. A quick search and I discovered Carlos had not signed but was expected to – so it is nice to see this.

Turner was struggling a little hitting just over .200 but had I think 11-12 in steals. Austin was hitting better – clsoe to .300 and driving in runs.

I hear Elton John singing “The Circle of Life” in the background. One cant make this stuff up.

PJ drives cars rented by Fats, a convicted felon. Josh Gordon, with a history of drug abuse, gets a DWI driving a 2015 Escalade owned by PJ, and gets bonded out of jail by Fats. Meanwhile PJ is playing ball at the Y and slugs a 17 year old kid during a pickup game.

This is too funny or too sad, not sure which. But the circle has definitely come around 360.

Hooray and who cares? Yes, I very much care about OOC schedules, and I would much rather have MSU than Old Dominion. However, other than SEC, I dont see a huge benefit. I would not go out and buy season tickets because MSU is on the schedule. I will buy tickets anyway, and yes, this is a better game than ODU or some directional school, but just not excited by cowbells.

Haha, BJD, what is wrong with you? Do I sense some optimism? You are giving us a fraction of 1% but that is still more than normal 🙂

Agreed our chances are slim either way so I am almost preferring to stomp some Heel tail today. I would rather win today and go 0-3 than lose today to those cheaters.

Throwing it out there, no pun intended – but does Carlos pitch today on 3 days rest?

Avent has already said no. But he also said that last year in CWS and Carlos basically told him he was pitching.

IF you rest Carlos today, there may be no tomorrow. IF you rest Carlos today and we do advance, when does he pitch again? If he pitches Weds (against FSU), would be 3 days rest for Sunday championship. If he goes Thursday, no chance for Sunday.

Or, would you pitch him today, knowing he could come back Sunday for the championship on normal rest?

Tough decision but I think today is do or die, and the ace needs to be on the hill. No chance planning for tomorrow if there is no tomorrow. Interested in thoughts and opinions.

If a player leaves early but continues to go to class, points are earned. If the player decides to go pro or transfer, quits going to class, then the program is penalized.

Perfect example would be Tyler – did he finish the semester? Or did he leave right away? If he finished the semester on good standing, his transfer does not hurt at all. If he left without finishing, or left in academic trouble, then his transfer would hurt the score.

Simple – just win baby! If we go 6-0 we are pretty much assured of squeaking in. If we go 5-1, we probably need a little help. 4-2 and we need more than a little help. Just win and let the events sort themselves out.

Good discussion guys – and I think we are all in agreement. I just think the timing is questionable – Sterling was a known racist for years, having said far worse than what came out on tape. Next point, I GUARANTEE there are other owners in professional sports who feel the same way. And if we ban Sterling, then we need to ban Spike Lee and all who have any racist thoughts/attitudes/actions in the entire league.
