Yeah, that’s a classless comment by Butch.

Imagine what Golden thinks after hearing something like this. Could end up being a big time motivator for bolting that program if the Canes have a good 2015 season. Could see programs like WV, Illinois, or even post-London UVA as landing spots. He’s a good coach, I just don’t think Miami is the place for him.

^ I was right…late in the first half!

Nothing personal against Gary. I get the sense that he’s a character guy, and probably the salt of the earth. Not striving for absolute perfection, but I’d just like to hear someone else a little more capable of relaying what’s happening on the field at any given time. The play-by-play guy should be able to hold his own, and paint a picture for the listener with the color man coming in periodically to spice things up. IMO, we’ve got one of the greatest color men in college football radio history with Johnny Evans (props to Tony Haynes for bball as well). He makes the radio broadcasts listenable, and makes up for a lot. I’m not an expert, but I tune into a lot of radio broadcasts b/c I’m unable to get to games frequently and the Pack is almost never on a TV station I get. Gary is servicable, but we can do better. Certainly, the university with the greatest radio station of all time, WKNC 88.1, can produce someone that can give us a better play-by-play broadcast, and balance Larry Munson-like homerism with honest and straight forward descriptions of action on the field. We’ve got St. Gary until he retires, but here’s hoping we get an improvement when the time comes.

Instead of calling it the “Edit” function for posts, it should be called “Check That” in honor of Gary.

If it wasn’t for Gary “Check that…” Hahn, I’d have no idea if the offense was driving left to right or right to left – the whole freakin’ game would be lost to me. “Where are they going? Which way are we kicking???” Fortunately, “Check that…” comes in at just the right time to let me know. Whew! He’s our own frustratingly hilarious version of Harey Carey. All I can say is Johnny Evans must be a saint.

That UNC pancake came deep in their own territory. I think it happened in the second…check that…late in the first half. I could be wrong. You got a 50/50 chance. Hell, I’d just enjoy the whole game again!

    Thanks for the shout out!

Found the UCF/ECU game notes online. Quirky tidbits (first 2 for Vegas) include:

    1. UCF has won 24 consecutive games starting at 3PM or later
    2. UCF has won 13 straight non-Saturday games.
    3. Penn State beat them on a last second field goal
    4. They turned it over 4 times in the loss to UConn
    5. 9 different O-Line combinations throughout 2014 – this might be why ECU’s D Line absolutely mauled them in the drive before the hail mary pass. When ECU went Prevent, they lost the pass rush and gave up the game winner.
    6. Thrive on a balanced run/pass attack. They’ve gotten at least 1 passing TD in every game
    7. Breshad Perriman (caught hail mary, making 7 straight games with a TD catch) is the WR I was talking about as NFL caliber. His dad is an NFL alum.

Going to be a tough matchup for the Pack, but if we turn up the heat on the R-So QB, then good things will happen.

Ever since I saw that fight at the rest home while visiting my grandma, where an old lady used a fork as a shiv on another old lady who was ticking her off, I don’t mess with old folks (I didn’t before this, but this instance solidified my logic). They’re wiley, cagey, and as bill says, they’ll hurt you. When all else fails, they’ll just run over you. I’ve had to dodge a few geezer-driven Cadi’s in my day.

Great to see a win in the ACC opener. And btw; nice impressive home schedule with Tenn, WV, Cincinatti and La Tech before taking on Pitt. Really enjoy a State program that takes OOC scheduling seriously again.

Watched about 2/3 of the UCF/ECU game. They’re good, better than we are. Legit NFL talent at WR with a capable QB. Inexplicable loss at UConn, but other losses were Penn State in the first game and then @ Mizzou. They beat an improving South Florida team 16-0, which was our only common opponent.

Don’t care what O’Leary did in the past. He’s paid his dues and had to serve in purgatory at Central Florida. He’s a heck of a coach and word is he’s going to retire at the end of the season (68 y/o). That means they’re going to be playing hard to give their coach one last win. If our D-Line repeats the perforance they had against UNC, that should put their QB under enough pressure to give us an edge.

Turner just forgot to feign contact from the defender to make it look like he was forced OOB.

Don’t need or miss Tyler Lewis one bit. Best of luck at Butler, but I don’t think he helps in last night’s game or the season. Let Barber learn from this and get better. I think he’ll respond well without having to look over his shoulder for someone replacing him.

Great write up. Very enjoyable read.

Now at 6-2 in favor of the B1G now, which is a little surprising. Wasn’t expecting us to lose, nor FSU. The league needs GT and VT to get some wins on the road to make the B1G’s inevitable victory a tad more respectable. If only the top tier/ranked ACC teams win, bubble hopes for the league could take a hit. Still don’t think Duke will beat a physical Wiscy team on the road unless they play out of their minds. 9-5 or 10-4 looks like where this is going to end up.

None! He had enough in the way of witnesses to negate the speculative value of an audio/video recording.

    I…wait, what?

You know, come to think of it, I’d rather them not have any audio/video recording of State games from now on. I’ll just post up outside of the PNC and ask the witnesses what happened. If I can’t get there, I’ll just call up some buddies and ask if they know anyone that watched the game and have them relay what happened. Makes perfect sense.

    What issues are those?

I refer to the issues involving controversy within the St Louis and surrounding areas’ law enforcement communities. An internet search can reveal alarming incidents involving St. Ann, Glendale, and city/county officers that reinforce an earlier comment that labeled the area a powderkeg.

Daniel Simpson Day had a great post above. The story of the officer having a broken orbital bone was completely false, but the damage has already been done despite its being exposed as a sham. A narrative was pushed with that story, which is a despicable thing for the press to do.

If virtually all bigotry has gone away, then that area in/around St. Louis wouldn’t have the issues it has today. It’s got nothing to do with ‘agitators,’ which is exactly what MLK and others in the Civil Rights movement were called by folks who didn’t want to look in the mirror or reflect/take action on Jim Crow. We may have come a long way, but there’s still a long way to go.

Keeping in mind only a minority of eligible voters exercise their right…

There is a percentage of voters who vote Party

There is another %age that vote policy, and policy ranges from social issues to fiscal, intl relations, etc.

Then there are those, and I’m convinced this is the majority of voters – that vote for/against a name. The movie Distinguished Gentleman lampooned this, but it’s the only reason I can come up with when faced with such a disparate bunch of candidates and issues get elected in like what happened yesterday in NC.

Some Syracuse unknown will have his Career Day.
we know this, since we have seen this before.

Funny! But I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

They’ve got potentially 6 starters out with “lower body” injuries (chicken legs?): http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootball/index.ssf/2014/10/post_33.html

With 2 of their starting WRs out, this potentially means there’s some backup just waiting to blow up our D. My hope is that with both guards likely out, our DLine comes to play.

I’ll be pleasantly shocked if any real punishment is given. Fully expecting nothing from the NCAA on this for the men’s programs, but could see the women’s bball program to get the worst of it, whatever “it” is.

If they actually do something to the men’s programs, then I’ll be waiting for the Penn State treatment to occur, a la reducing the penalties after a season or so because, “Gosh-darn it, they’re just so dadgum likeable! Awwwww…see, they’re really sorry!”

Great post. Nice reading a rational, well-thought and composed piece like this. I’m not ceding an automatic win to L’ville this weekend, even though the odds are not in our favor. Hope our guys play hard and smart and somehow get some breaks to steal a win.

The roster from Harrington’s year from here (http://wolfpackreview.com/north-carolina-state-basketball/roster/1998-1999) shows a pretty young team:

    Ron Anderson, So
    Keith Bean, Fr
    Justin Gainey, Jr
    Anthony Grundy, Fr
    John Hampton, Fr
    Adam Harrington, Fr
    Kenny Inge, So
    Brian Keeter, Fr
    Ron Kelley, So
    Carl Lentz, Fr
    Archie Miller, So
    Ben Petty, Fr
    Idris Talib, Fr
    Damon Thornton, Jr
    Tim Wells, Jr
    Cornelius Williams, So

Can’t help but think what could have been had there been a real coach. That’s a good amount of talent in the backcourt.

Basspacker, you are forgetting the fall fishing season. Fish take priority over the lawn. Get rid of the grass and put down some mulch and ivy to win your angling time back.

^ Shaq’s not a good scapegoat candidate, not to mention Sterling is still rolling down the hill.

This whole episode has certainly allowed folks to get some repressed self-righteousness off their chests, that’s for sure. Haven’t seen this much casual demagoguery since the Ground Zero mosque was in the news.

Dante sure seems like a sadistic SOB no?

7th circle – violence. Being boiled in blood while being shot at with arrows from centaurs. Centaurs??? I guess if you’re toying with fantasy you might as well make it creative. If he were alive today, would Dante include endless viewing of Bravo in one of those circles? Undoubtedly.

UK too big to get hit, too many checks and balances in their system to feel any pain. NCAA is toofless with the big timers.

Ironic Cal is going to get another premier NBA job. Have a feeling Ollie will make a better NBA coach, and wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up there sometime soon.
