If Gott wanted to be buddies it sure manifested itself in a funny way with defections and transfers.

But I’ve had about as much drama as I can handle and if Wade or his ole lady would bring that then no thanks. Saw the article of her potty mouthing the officials.

Heck I’d leave my job for triple the money! Even if it only worked for a couple years….

I’m not sure we had that kind of jack to throw around, then again if approached at the right time it may not have taken that much money to get him. Heard them talking about it on the NIT game last night.

Grey I think you key point is

Part of the search firm’s job is to assess interest.

We can speculate all day long about Wade, Archie, Marshall or whoever but the reality is that us here in the cheap seats have no idea what her choices were. Hard as it is to accept there are guys who aren’t interested in our job at any price. DY’s job is to get the best person from those actually willing to come (and stay if successful).
I don’t see anything negative about this hire and will defer to DY’s discretion in this matter.

And yes, as Va says success at one level does not mean success at the next, but then again its the best indicator we have to go by. I’m interviewing for jobs right now and one thing I have is 4 previous long term cases of sustained sales growth, not a stinker in there, so I think I’m a safe hire but who knows, the situation I’m in now has constrained me to be able to achieve as much as I could.

Neither does hiring a blue chip Tier 1 who has been successful in other programs mean he would come here and be successful. Every situation is different as well.

McC at the ripe old age of 59 I’m interviewing too; my suggestion is to say “hey, i like the company and position, please lay out the package for me in detail if you think I’d be a valuable addition to your team.”

I think the more direct you are the better for everybody. If they can’t or won’t lay it out then it probably isn’t a place you’d be happy at long term anyway.

All of us are looking for different things, I’m more of a cash/incentive guy myself but I’ve been in industrial sales for 35 years now too; pay me enough and I’ll take care of my own teeth & eyes.

    McCallum

Hey they made the dance and won a game. Better than the Pack. (and one of my sons has a MS from there).

Hey let’s just give it a chance Heavy. Honestly as far as college coaching he comes in better than our last two hires for sure. I was hoping for something different but am OK with this. After getting whipped by the tansgens by 50 anything would be an upgrade as long as they had winning college experience and a record of recruiting more players than transferred.

Hey heavy, no offense, all I’m saying is in life follow the money.
I’m not saying its right, just reality. After teh pig farmer there will be someone else.

For 13 1/2 years I was the US Branch Manager for a Muslim/Malaysian company. The Managing Director who hired me said “Brad, there already is world religion: MONEY.”

Same with sending Debbie letters, emails, etc criticizing her decision; I expect it will go straight into file 13 but especially if she doesn’t recognize you as having some kind of personal or financial investment in teh program.

Send Yow an email and she will answer the same day whether she recognizes your name or not.

Hey, all I am saying is answering and actually considering what you say are two different things.
Had an HR manager years ago that would walk through the mill and everyone who approached him he pulled out a steno pad and wrote down what they were bitching about then walked out the door, tore the page out, and threw it away and said “problem solved”. True story. Knock yourself out Grey.

Keatts.. already bringing the entire fan base together!! He’s a miracle hire!

The 15 or 20 posters who frequently post here are the entire fan base?

No Grey, worse than that; 10 or so of the 20 or so posters who post here…..

Heavy there is an old saying that “money talks and bull sh#t walks”.

Pony up what the pig farmer does and you can equal billing in what happens.

Plywood, I was reading these to my youngest son who is home from the midwest this weekend to pick up a car, he’s a NFL scout and says he plays in a rec league like that and what happens is when one team gets 29 (they play to 30) the other team starts flagrantly fouling to stay in the game longer.

This is a non-contact sport so how about you lose a player when you hit a certain number of team fouls. In other words you can get back in the game by breaking the rules.

…I know, wouldn’t work but an interesting thought that breaking the rules of the game have become how you play the game these days. Dr. Naismith would be so proud!

ldr you are spot on. Even unx screwed up with Dough before they were able to get roywonderboy and that was after they had tried to get him before and he spurned it. That is the rare, rare exception. Plus like it or not, unx has resources and branding that we don’t. This was the kind of hire we should have made when Sid was hired and when Gott was hired. I think we’d be a lot further down the road by now.

My general point was that its easy to tell others what they need to do with their money when the teller doesn’t have any skin in the game. Didn’t perceive that as an attack on anyone in particular but respect the owners/mods have total discretion.

You know I think the big disconnect for us all is that for us fans in WPN this is a fandom passion.
For players and coaches this is a business. They make decision on where they go to school and where they work for professional reasons.

Hey none of us change jobs because we’re ‘fans’ of a certain company. There has to be the right set of circumstances for us to change jobs. Same with Sean or Archie or anyone.

I agree with BoB. I also agree with what I’ve posted several time (and was deleted the last time) that the reality is the program just doesn’t have the money or the brand to attract the top tier candidates. End of story.

Hey we did well with a high school coach and then one out of Iona so no reason that this one can’t be just as good.
He has a clean reputation with no baggage (i.e. like Gott had from ‘bama), he has college level success (unlike Sid), and he knows the regional high school landscape (unlike any of the recent coaches).
We tried going for the glitzy one and dones and had some success but now its time to go back to fundamentals and build a program around solid players that stay 3 or 4 years and develop.
Plus he’s a young up ‘n comer and with the blues aging out he may build something good and solid.

We were never going to get a plug-n-play tier 1 coach, let’s face it.

I’m satisfied Debbie did the best she could do given her resources and the situation.

I think its an interesting twist and look forward to seeing how it works. V started the whole ‘make ’em earn it at the foul line’ strategy and that’s been the status quo for almost 35 years now. Time for a face lift.

I guess I’m just too old.
I remember Digger Phelps and his total and outspoken disdain for the ACC during his coaching career at ND.
Just can’t hope they to be Duke.

    1) Digger Phelps
    2) new age ACC member i.e. hasn’t earned the right to be ACC champ

    Duke
    1) V was a true friend of V and new disses on State so I see him as a honorable competitor
    2) Duke fans not nearly as obnoxious
    3) need someone strong enough to negate roywonderboy and unx
    4) I know it would just PO the unx crowd to see Duke win and go 2 up on the number of ACCT crowns

I’m going to the Hornets game but I hope Duke wins.

Not with a bang but a whimper.

I look forward to life with a real freaking coach.

If you wanted a freakin’ coach from what I understand Gott should have been your man! In fact that’s probably been his issue at more than one school.

WP, it’s hard at times for me to imagine He could love a Hitler, or a Charles Manson, and one of my neighbors (some of my pious priest moments Bill). Let me tell you about my sister in law who is an alcoholic … And yet nothing any of them do or have done is any worse than what I do when … (present tense)

I understand the search Bill… the problem is, if I ever find a perfect church it will become very imperfect when I start going there.

Whoever has broken one point in the Law has broken the entire Law. Hard to grasp but that wasn’t my own thought, I read it somewhere. We assign ‘value’ He does not.

Oh and if McCallum wants to dress up what’s the harm? Both views are right ‘come as you are and leave different’ and ‘the worshipers offer their first fruits’ (i.e. their best for those in faison).

    Yogi…

You see… I thought the “Order of the Day” for the Church was to bring diverse people together for one purpose, not separate them….

I heard someone say “I become all things to all men so perhaps some may be saved”.

But maybe my memory is bad.
