Thanks for the kind words 44. Today would have been his 90th b-day. I’m sure he’s having fun.

My Father passed away this morning. I really thought we lost him back on 8/27 but he just kept fighting on and on. He got drafted for the Korean war but was the only engineer, besides one other draftee, out of 50 guys in his group. They sent both of them off to spend 2 years testing equipment for the military in the desert. They flew some of the earliest remote control aircraft to be shot down during pilot training. They also shot off a couple of V2 rockets brought back from Germany. General Motors came out with a new automatic engine but the top brass were skeptical of it with regards to on the battlefield reliability. Dad said him and a group of guys drove the hell out of them day and night. I wish I had a video of that because I never saw the man go over 40mph on a secondary street or over 50 on the highway. Never saw tobacco or alcohol at home but the one thing that stands out was how fair he was with everyone he encountered in life. Rest In Peace old boy.

We need a Barry Sanders at this point unless you are satisfied with 6,7 wins.

I’m sitting here in the hospital with my father who served 1951-1953. He was 16 in 1945 and the only reason he got into Georgia Tech was because there was a war going on. I don’t believe that for one second. Yesterday he told my wife and I some Fort Bliss stories.

The Big Lebowski was on tv yesterday. 20 year anniversary. Time disappears.

DFMo, was on campus the day before your tunnel picks. Finished by 9/1?? Campus tour/presentation was a little weak. Not looking good anyway. Guess I’ll never get those ltr’s everyone is so in love with.

Knight’s film – he runs like a gazelle and his first cut back is deadly. Very smooth, effortless.

Thanks for the links by the way. Nice find. We always get pieces of the financial picture.

I just thought someone might look at these numbers and come to the conclusion that we are overspending by 3mm. Reynolds was 35mm, the outdoor facility was 4mm and I’m not sure how the cost of the new bb dorm will be handled. There’s that 51% general students and 49% students athletes formula that is popular these days. I don’t know how the cost is allocated between the university versus the atlethic department. There was a discussion of allowing corporations to accelerate depreciation expense in the new tax code. So that 86mm could contain 5-10mm in depreciation expense for non-reoccurring facility projects. That’s a non cash expense that doesn’t reduce cash flows on an annual basis. I’m not judging individual projects. I’m glad Reynolds is still there and operational.

Would love to see a detailed balance sheet, cash flow and income statement for the last 100 years. I would like to see the current depreciation schedule for Reynolds and the new indoor practice facility. A non-cash depreciation expense is part of that 86mm.

That’s the whole point Grey. So many sources said the message from management was win or you’re fired. Seems to me DD came out strong to win that game. IIRC, you said yourself that DD stayed aggressive throughout. There were so many player post game interviews that included the words “we won for Coach”. That was much different than players discussing individual plays.

This topic has been discussed multiple times on SFN. It is the first time you have mentioned maybe win or fired wasn’t true. Are you saying insiders told you directly that DD was safe at 5-7? I don’t think anyone on SFN has irrefutable proof one way or the other.

I read on multiple State sites at the time that “it was win this game or you are out the door” and several posters on SFN said the same thing. I repeatedly questioned that scenario from various “insiders” and always got the same it’s true response. Grey, you are the first poster that I’ve seen that says that maybe this wasn’t the case. All the positives that DD brought to the table up to that point were out the window if true. How would any of us handle that type of scenario in corporate america? Make this sale in the next 3 hours or you are fired. How would that sit with you? Go watch that game. DD was aggressive and used several trick plays to build a 21-0 lead. There was quite an argument about the second half on SFN about whether or not DD climbed into his conservative shell. I believe the win or goodbye ultimatum was valid.

After much deliberation, I went to my employer early in my career and said I had two offers for almost double my then current salary. First of all, I was prepared to walk out the door that day. Secondly, I knew the department was severely understaffed. Lastly, I knew my boss hated the hiring process. DD got a material raise and so did I without a legit offer in hand. That tells me DD doesn’t have a warm, fuzzy relationship like GottYow.

DD wanted a 5 year contract which is standard in D1 circles. Yow tried to low ball him. DD reached out to the Vols (Vandy didn’t change HC) and actually met with Currie. They had a discussion and Currie supposedly went back to Knoxville to get a proposal approved but got canned on his return. There was virtually very little written on the Vol boards about DD. Several months later a timeline of events was written. After reading it, I don’t think DD ever had a valid committable offer from UT. I think he leveraged media reports to get a lot more money from Yow and an additional pool of funds for his assistants. The Mississippi schools thanked him for his interest. This series of events is comically sad. Yow could have been reasonable with a second offer on year five prior to his agent sending out feelers but wound up spending more money in the end. How many here believe DD had a hard contract in hand for 4.5mm a year??

Is State rebuilding or reloading?? The “replacing 9 defensive starters” line sounds daunting and it will obviously be the key to a great season. It shouldn’t be an excuse when so many players played significant minutes last year. Ted Roof is going to fix the secondary, right? Special teams has quality depth and Dunn can kick field goals from 70 yards.

Start out 6-0 and get all 3 phases humming before the 5 game gauntlet. Grind unx into a fine paste.

    In essence, overachieve. 10-2

And for god’s sake, make sure the backup quarterback gets plenty of playing time. I know Finley has major nfl aspirations but he doesn’t need to take every snap to get there. Why brisett was in every play, besides McClendon’s fumble, his senior year is still a mystery. I smell another transfer qb scenario next year.

SaccoV, nice write up by the way. DD and staff don’t give up and they have flipped several players over the years. I’m following the Knight (Duke decommit) saga closely. He has visited State 3x recently and is now going to see Unx and VT. It could be a stellar pack of rbs for 3-4 years. Then there’s Crouch.

I’ve read that Savion and several others are keeping their OVs so they can all go to State together. Exciting times.

Savion Jackson decommitted from Duke??? State was high on his list from the beginning. USCjr supposedly turned his head on an OV last weekend before another camp visit at State. A half dozen posters flip out because Savion’s mom tweeted likes to some USC chatter which of course meant he was destined to go there. Lots of crystal ball nonsense as well. Post commitment interview, Savion said he had informed multiple State players days before Wednesday he was Raleigh bound. Savion is supposed to enroll in December. Yes, wait until the ink is dry.

I hope part of the visit was a session on the benefit of a traditional TE. Could you imagine a Whitten, a Gonzales or a gronk 2.0 in this offense? How often does this team pass inside the hash marks 5,10,15 yards down the middle? It might have seriously burned ND’s constant blitzes straight up the middle. A 6’7 240 pound target should help in red zone scoring.

How to win championships by stealing opposing team’s playbooks, spying on and video tapping competition’s workouts, stealing signal calling and deflating footballs??? Fashion tips?? Is DD going to start wearing sleeveless sweatshirts or just a tarp like Rambo? How to respond to media questions with Neanderthal type grunts or unibrow facial expressions??

Well you don’t have to break my arm. I’ll go anywhere to avoid looking at Kevin O’leary. Bald headed ——-. But I want lady pics, angel dust and a pfn bourbon tasting and NO rainbow humpers. And I want to get banned here first. I got kicked out of arrowhead stadium once but never off the internet. Make it happen.

I enjoy the sheer volume of topics on 247. I simply avoid threads/politics with ease which appears to be a rare talent for the masses. It also allows members to visit other school sites for information. IMO, PP puts most other school sites to shame with regards to participation. SFN seems like the new season of Archer. A little underwhelming currently, with Wee Baby Seamus unavailable to boot.
