By the way, sounds like a solid pickup.

    Welcome, Mr. Kirk!

I thought at first the title must have been response to the uproar of the other title, but maybe not?

Agree with AsheWolf, though. He never de-committed, so it is really a bit disrespectful to Kirk saying he “recommitted”. That implies he decommitted. I never once heard that he decommitted. I heard that he was going to “listen” to Calipari. That is not decommitting.

Regardless, a better title now would be “Shaun Kirk signs LOI to run with the Pack”.

Nicely done, CD. I have a suspicion we’re gonna get more good news in the next day or so. Rowsey from UNCA has cancelled his visit for tomorrow. That may be an indicator of something….hmmmm. Or it could mean Gott has lost his touch and lost out on him…which would be very UN stellar…I’ll take the first option.

No. The title is not at all accurate.

In the space of those 24 hrs. Gottfried lost a 5 star that he never had in the first place, and he got a verbal from a “rising star?”

Hey. Not shabby. All in all those 24hrs. ain’t a bad day’s work.

    Again, the title was loaded.

    ^ Ding, Ding.

You left out the reason for the article…the “rising star” may bolt to Kentucky.

“May”??? You could say that about “every” Top 15 commit that is currently “committed” to another school. If you are basing anything on the word “may” we may as well consider the sky is in fact, FALLING.

Cat “may” get hurt. Someone “may” not qualify academically. I could go on and on, but having the basis of an argument for the title of the thread being what “may” happen wreaks of the consistent negativity that most of the posters have been mentioning.

Again, I’m glad I could help the start this discussion, but the title (like CD mentioned) was loaded, and IMO, not accurate.

“The last 48 hours have been a roller coaster for Mark Gottfried” may be more accurate…
But, I think roller coasters are fun. A negative person would probably say roller coasters make them puke.

I will agree that 7 players is not enough, but give the staff time. Things in college basketball recruiting have changed drastically even in the last 3-4 years. Heck, K is now recruiting OAD’s. The staff will most likely pick up 3 more “scholarship” players. There’s really no reason to have less than 10 “scholarship” caliber players on your team. Otherwise, we won’t be able to suit up for the “Red/White” game.

Agreed, CD. When I read the headline, I was expecting something “worse” than getting a commitment from a guy Kentucky wants…

Who came up with this post title? And how is it even remotely accurate?
What is so “not” stellar about getting a commitment from a 3* recruit who then turns around and gets an offer from Kentucky? Would it be better if he had not gotten an offer from Kentucky? And “losing” out on Ingram shouldn’t be a factor since everyone knew he wasn’t picking us? I just don’t understand the title, and think it clearly misrepresents the last 24 hours. We got a commitment from a 3* kid from Whiteville who supposedly has a ton of upside, and somehow that is “BAD” for Gottfried?

One of the Martin twins should match up well with Hornsby, too. They’re both long and athletic. I think Ralston will be dialed in for this game, and I predict a good game from him.

“there are only 9 teams with worse defensive efficiency ratings than us (Notre Dame, Davidson, BYU, Ole Miss, Vandy, Stephen F. Austin, Oregon, Indiana, and the Wood Chopper’s bunch). To be a real contender, as Jigsy is showing in his Champions articles, you have to be good on offense but Gott has to really improve on the defensive end.”

I would say part of that may have to do with a SOS of 4, but I could be wrong. None of these stats are in a vacuum.

It was a good win. The last 3-4 minutes could have been better, but Clemson was not getting fouls called against them (unless they fouled 4 times), and we were – first time. They hit some crazy shots, especially Devoe. That happens when you’re down and nothing to lose. We held them off in a hostile environment, but our defense looked great for 15 minutes in the second half. Isn’t that what everyone’s been complaining about? Well, that has definitely improved.
As far as Gott, he doesn’t have anyone on this team who has played over 2 years with him. I think we’re pulling in 2 additional players for 2015 no one knows much about (yet). I hope KW doesn’t go anywhere. He’s our only post player that is an offensive threat outside of 10-12 feet. He’ll play big minutes against the Cuse zone.
We’re heading in the right direction. I think we win at least two in the ACC tourney. Safely in as a 8-10 seed. 7 seed is possible with very strong ACC tourney.

Marshall ain’t gonna work for Debbie. That ship has sailed.
MG may be an ass and a shyster, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be a good coach. However, we have to hope last night was an anomaly. We will see on Saturday. GT is awful. I bet they play their best perimeter defense of the season. Teams are starting to figure us out. Foul and hand-check our perimeter guys. Refs aren’t calling anything and our guys can’t get any good looks.
My biggest complaint and question is “WHERE WAS KYLE WASHINGTON?” He is our only big that is an offensive threat, plays good D, and hustles. I saw him on the bench even encouraging our guys when they got down by 9-10 and it was slipping away again. Cat has got to start driving and looking to pass first. If he gets a shot, shoot it. If not, pass to Abu or Washington or Martin.
Something is amiss with Lacey and Turner. The Martin twins are MUCH MORE athletic than Lacey and Turner. They need to be on the court. If Turner ain’t hitting shots, he needs to be benched right away.
We need to win 6 of our last 9.

Just a couple of classic lines:

“Boxill, who has been at UNC since 1985, is an award-winning faculty member whose writing and teaching focuses on ethics, social and political philosophy, feminist theory and ethics in sports.”

“Boxill is editor of “Sports Ethics: An Anthology” and “Issues in Race and Gender” and is past president of the International Association for Philosophy in Sport.”

You just couldn’t make this stuff up. Higher education and academia at the Flagship…hypocrisy doesn’t even begin to define it…

“This is really a microcosm of all our problems.

Scholarship athletes — adult men — having BB gun fights is a sign of immaturity.”

This hits the nail on the head. This is what college football has become. This reminds me of something my friends and I may have done as 11 or 12 year olds…I’m serious. I could go on and on, but there’s just alot wrong with college athletics. The scandal at UNC and how it’s been brushed under the rug, is quite frankly, the tip of the iceberg, and no one really wants to know how deep the iceberg really is….

Good letter. I think good things are in store. I have no problem with him mentioning Brissette. Everyone thought Matt Flynn was going to be the starting QB for the Seattle Seahawks about 16 months ago…..

NC State does not need a “good” season to make us a relevant program. We need to build a program. There are only a few football programs in the ACC….

    1. FSU
    2. Miami
    3. VT
    4. Clemson

The rest are “wanna-be’s.” We CAN get there, but we have to do what Beamer did 25 years ago….build it…
Our fans need to give DD a few years to build some relationships with HS coaches, and players.

COWDOG, I really bet about 4 people on this site know who Guy Clark is ….without Google.

No matter what, I’m rooting for DD. This season has been tough, but a first year coach should not be expected to go bowling…

I’ll agree, txpack, but if you win all ACC home games (8) plus 2 away, that’s 10-6 in conference, and you would easily have 20 total wins unless you were absolutely horrible in your OOC schedule. With 10 wins in conference right now, we’d already be 20-9.
At this point, we just need to win.
