Bye ya’ll. Last time I tried to chat and watch the game, BJD bitched at me. And…he was right. Got to go concentrate.

Pup, it’s ok. I understand. For the record, the picture above looks like she has to use the ladies room. (see how I just ruined it for you! :))

I think you and CJ have something in common with your poetry. She was good luck for us on Tuesday – dang it.

If it doesn’t look good for us at the end of the first half, you know what you have to do Tractor.

About page 1- you men are pathetic.

Agree with ya’ll about the ACC refs (clowns on display), Tues night was so refreshing not having to worry about the periods between the 18 to 14 minute mark and the 8 to 4 minute mark (and the last minute of the game) when you knew that the ACC refs would totally change the dynamics of the game and screw us.

I’m a little nervous about this game. Our team has been on an emotional rollercoaster the past few days which will have an effect on any team but especially a young team. Down Sat. Up Sun. Up Tues.

We played a near perfect game on Tues and young teams usually have a let down after such a game. They’ve got to be tired. I think we pull it out but barely. Hope I am wrong and that we pulverize them! (I am on the JohnGalt train.)

The amazing thing to me is this is not the same team we saw a month ago. Coach Gott, year after year, has them peaking at the right time – tournament time. He is truly fantastic. I don’t know how he does it.

Lenny Wirtz. Ahhhhhh yes. The first referee I ever took notice. He was the predecessor to Karl Hess. If he was reffing, we automatically gave the UNC a 12 point advantage. Maybe we should employ that method to refs these days.

Like I said earlier….if only we had social media back in the 80’s. He called some crazy stuff. Swoffy and he were buddies.

    I understand.

Last week, I contacted a mentor who gave me good advice on how to handle a work situation. I was told to be sensitive with my work and to “be a lady” which is the equivalent of your be classy statement.

While there is a time and place for everything, stating and documenting the obvious is important. It’s also important to have validation and buy-in. IT DID HAPPEN. I understand your point about whiners but you never sit there and continue to get kicked in the mouth. Man up. Back it up with stats and facts.

I don’t believe in parroting ACC paid commentators and dumb media people.

It is what it is. It’s important to recognize it and address it and one day, move on. Moving on is key here.

It does burn me when our fans criticize the team when they did put themselves in position to win only to have it snatched. They did enough to win the game. The nonsense about a botched play, Vandy not being in position, somebody not making a shot….give me a freaking break. If the sky is blue….it’s blue. Call it. On these boards and conversations with UNC-CHeat fans these interactions are easy to handle….especially on Fridays and now that there has been some exposure to their corruption.

If I was giving a PR interview, I would be more muted with my response but I wouldn’t dally around the issue either.

The refs absolutely suck and have cost us multiple games this year.

    You’re a good guy.

    CD- you impress me.

Given our personnel, it’s a good system and it’s one that we can build on in future years.

Alpha, interesting and agreed. Papa John, you too. Wulfpack- fair enough. Adventuroo- you’re trouble. 🙂

Foose, thanks for the reality check. My season expectations were low at the beginning of the season too. We have done ok but it still hurts considering what could have/should have been given some unfortunate circumstances.

Cat is making a big transition. I do not want to lose that guy. He’s outstanding but just hit the wall. Tyler has been threatening to transfer the last couple of years…hope he doesn’t.

Tyler, TJ and Rodney was a Lowe/Gott class. Tyler with his buddy Vandy gone may be feeling a bite of loneliness. He is just such a liability on defense. Placing one of those water coolers on the defensive side of the court might prove more efficient. He’s got heart and has shown tremendous maturity on the floor…hope he settles down.

Julius Hodge was a game changer too.

    Monroe was awesome.

    Going to miss TJ terribly.

Thompson was tops. Don’t remember him playing but incredible on film and he made us great.

Gott deserves a lot of credit for lifting our program the way he has.

Comparisons to his SEC record in the future will be relevant. He needs his own kids and to get Lowe’s OUT. Disappointed in Vandy this year. Just doesn’t have a winner’s mentality. Still want him to do well and have always like the big guy but overall not sure how much he helps the program. He’s seems to be a blue chip, bench guy.

Ya’ll are rough. Trying to change the culture of suctitude left by the Lowest. I mean here we are finally competitive. Coach puts us in a position to win most games and has pulled many games out of the hat.

Can you imagine trying to deal with Leslie, Wood and Brown? I thought he did the best anybody could have done. Wood refused to play defense. Leslie was a headcase and Brown (my favo) never stepped up to provide leadership. In case you forgot, Howell was the unsung hero and he IMPROVED. I really don’t think the other guys improved on any side of the ball, except Wood with the shooting. But he cost us more points than he gave us on many nights.

Lowe had us last to next to last in the conference almost every year. BC even blew us away. We knew that we were going to win no CLOSE games because Lowe would never put us in position to win. That’s the difference between Gott and Lowe.

Then Purvis…..not sure about that one but I’m thinking he was influenced by the three who did nothing. Either way, if he’s not a team player- bye and good riddance.

Gott has done a heck of a job and brought us some coaching clout. I agree defense needs to improve. However if your team is in the game and given a chance to win….that’s all a team and fan can ask from a coach. We have played good enough to win @ 6 games which were taken away from us by circumstances beyond out team’s control.

WTH about naming other coaches recruited….what a joke. After dealing with Lowe. We’ll see over the next couple of years how the program is developing and where it is. Right now, it looks 300X better than Lowe left us. He left us an absolute disaster.

Paki- SFN has benefited society…they gained a lot of credibility during the Lowe and Fowler years. Quoted by other media sources and they did experience a lot of outreach. This is the only non-sanctioned, demonstrably responsible NCSU alumni site that I know. They care. I believe it was originally an offshoot of PackPride which was absolutely and horribly delusional at one point.

I’ve been reading the works of BJD, Rick, and others for years. Wufpacker, VA Wolf, Statefans, and Jiga has been absolutely amazing too. I have was a lurker reading Highstick, Cowdog, Alpha Wolf and many others (sorry for the lack of mention by name but you know who you are and thank you)who do seem to have genuine (message board) friendships. There’s a respect.

Tradition is valued and observed…BJD doesn’t post bball threads because he’s extremely bad luck for us. Rick and Jiga stepped up to the plate when we noticed a trend. Sadly, I come here when we get bad weather too because that one gandolfy fellow (can’t remember his name but know who he is) is the bomb.

You’ve got professionals from diverse career fields who have both mad writing and analytical skills as well as a altruistic desire to help their university. I would LOVE to see some of these guys springboard to other media jobs. Doubt they would give up their more profitable day job though. Although having a SFN guy in the media mainstream would be great, we need them here.

I don’t think these guys are paid for their work here. Support them instead of giving them a hard time. State your case and if you truly believe it (yes that was a passive aggressive sway), build your case without the arrows.

(BTW, the reason I don’t post as much….way too many words…can’t stop)

I find it’s the name-calling, redundancy and baiting which usually doesn’t meet the moderator mark of quality. Usually deserved. The warning of deletion is not baiting but I get that it may seem unfair at the time if that is who you are debating.

This has happened to me before. I find walking away and then coming back presents fresh eyes to the situation. Yes, I was wrong on that occasion. Posters have a responsibility to logically state your case not just lob crap.

Bill- that’s a loaded question. You are looking for political correctness.

If I was hiring a PR slot, yeah I would go with your desired answer.

If I was hiring a statistician or engineer, I would want to hire VA Wolf or one of the other brainies here. I would want them to give me numbers to back up any statements.

If I was hiring a basketball player, I would want them to acknowledge the issue and then want to hear that they would “fight through the pain” and win despite the odds.

If I was hiring a basketball coach, I would want them to acknowledge the issue and then say that they would fight for their players and give them the best chance to win. I would also want to hear that they would work through the administration to address any of their concerns about game equity with specific examples of the issue at hand.

If I was hiring an athletic director administrator and a basketball coach, I would be good with Yow and Gott. I think they are trying to change things. Think if Gott didn’t have his pre-established clout (ESPN and media contacts). This league would be KILLING him for standing up to the officials. You don’t see other coaches complaining and there’s a reason why. Swoffy uses that media. Lowe, Fowler, and many of their predecessors completely avoided the situation. So are some of our fans, which makes me sad on the inside. We’ve got to give them support.

Come Bill to the side of goodness!! (could have sworn you were a originally a football guy but knew that you did coach some bball…..have much respect for you)

I don’t think there’s anything fake about any of the pictures above. I think people are just jealous that they don’t have big sticks.

I probably deserve to have parts of my post deleted but thanks just the same!

I spent probably 30 mins putting the referee argument into a business model to illustrate league design. Clicked on the submit button which cycled through and then the darn thing never showed up. Yes, I didn’t spend time writing it again because it was just too much time. In short, a message may have never been officially posted for what ever reason. Technology is not perfect for the impatient and for the slow thinkers.

That being said….I love this website design and the moderators have been outstanding (and beyond patient). It’s working well. Issues have been hot.

It was this way with Lowe- the disagreements. People hate losing especially when we feel like we played well enough to win. No team is going to hit 100% and have 0 turnovers if they are playing super hard and taking chances.

Some think that we should sit on our hands and accept our fate and one day the good lord will smile down on us and make it all better (or that the government will one day take care of all our problems – yes that was completely passive aggressive but I’m a woman so I’m allowed.)

There are others who are a bit more aggressive and would like to affect/control what they can with regards to fate.

Trust in Yow but this ref situation makes me like the sport (that I used to love)less.

For the record and to fuel the fire, I thought the refs did their Swoffy’s best job today. During our last run about @ the 7:00-5:30 mark, they called a series of questionable calls including 2 charges against our best player. They also called a series of moving violations which completely changed the pace of the game and killed our momentum.

I knew we were completely doomed right then. Took the crowd out of it too. Nobody knew what the heck was happening but the refs gave our coach a “nice” warning.

When a team has been kicked as much as we have by the refs and its a young team on top of that…….they get discouraged. That sucking sound was from our team having the wind knocked out of them. Gott did good to not get beat by 30 (did you see him grab Warren- it didn’t help) but he should have caused a big enough scene to get tossed from the game.

Refs totally changed the dynamics of that game too. This was the point trying to make on the other thread. Momentum and runs are everything especially when a team fights back.

THIS is the difference between basketball and football. And…there’s a pattern here.

Paki- It’s sometimes a little bit of work but there is a great wisdom reward- most times. Kind of like Confucius. (wish somebody would say that about me!) I was disappointed for a stretch because I was actually understanding his “Faison” dialect posts without the help of extra resources. Of course, it was sad I needed extra resources because I’m from that region.

    CD- you’re awesome and fun.
