CD, you are a good man. Confession, I was born on yankee soil from a yankee mom. However the state born in… more midwest kind of not northern but still above the m-d line but not where accents change but where it’s often gray but I think the state was just confused at that time and my parents was young and I was young and then there was change in early life. I was raised in the backwoods (OK not quite) of NC where country accents run a bit thicker. The honoring of JD and ending the ceremony with a round of moonshine and Bonnie Blue Flag does raise the bar.

Your posts are awesome. Even years before I started posting- yep, I stalked on all of ya’ll. You have taught me so much about football and really my only interest was your creative delivery. Thank god we have internet to do easy research. Your knowledge and “feel” of the game and State gives me insight. You make learning fun which is what I hope to do for others one day.

Wufpacker- I agree and don’t think I came anywhere close to describing your true character. You are a treasure. One of the first to greet me (you and Bill were on that day I believe) and always make me feel welcome. If I could, I would change “psycho” to “gentle, sweet, godly, brilliant writer/all around super fellow.” If you have editing powers, please do. Plus, how do you know it wasn’t you I was referring to on the last line.

(I have looksies on campus too. Hello pot! It’s one of my major benefits of visiting Cameron from time to time too. You know that the Sports Med Dept is right across from the gym which has glass facing it. I know perfect spot for them but really, the guys who stream out of those doors….OK, now I feel dirty. The kids do keep looking younger and younger. I feel like I should be asking them for a parental permission note for the to be at State.)

Sour grapes. Let him lick his wounds. I saw an article where he visited Butler and his comments were centered around PT.

If Gott was the real issue then he would have left after his freshman year or would have backed out of his initial commitment. Gee whiz, his dad is a scout. Thanks for the link ‘Roo. The kid wanted to play at and for State. Gott didn’t promise him the point and the pt. He’s taking his ball and leaving to a university that will give him the best commitment possible.

All of these guys transferring benefit and need the extra year of growth. It will help them in the long run. Harrow, Purvis, Lewis, and Davis are great examples.

Lowe was told in Feb that he would not be retained. It wasn’t a secret. I am curious if Lowe was lying to the kids about PT and making other commitments he knew he couldn’t keep, which would put the new coach in a bad situation. Given Harrow’s scorched earth note, I would say yes.

Unfortunately for him, State has improved and has better talent than when he arrived. I feel bad for him. He is a good kid. He wants to go pro. He’s got to get a whole lot more PT under his belt and he needed to be a star.

His defense and offensive scoring highlighted that he wasn’t starter material yet. He is a fantastic passer and a little ball of energy though. Fact is he was not going to realize his personal goals at State. He views team as a partnership not necessarily something that he’s deeply committed too- this is normal in today’s society. He’ll carry that with him wherever he goes.

What might have been his senior year with some leadership growth….makes me a little sad. I do wish him well and if he changed his mind tomorrow, I would forgive him in two seconds and welcome him back.

Jig, thank you. We all benefit when you are injured. That is awesome.

Yes, we look bad on defense. We look really bad on defense on paper. We look really, really awful on a multi-line chart. I saw that Gott championed one FFDrtg outlier – sad. However that was near the end of his reign at AL though. I did notice the improved performance during his last years at AL and as another poster said, without the talent that we are able to attract. Ugggh…we are not good on d.

Between BSW, Vandy and TL it’s amazing we stopped anybody. I know it’s not exactly great sportsmanship but when do you just throw a towel on a player and tell him to foul until he can foul no more on D. There should have been some sort of individual sacrifice for the good of the team. Don’t get me wrong…like them lots but wow.

Holistically, I feel better because of our team’s record.

Thanks again- this is good stuff.

With his Faison dialect, I betcha CD has overcome some insensitive redneck barriers in his life.

I would like to give Bill from the Beach some insensitivity because of his location too. Gosh, I would love to retire to the coast one day.

At this point, I have realized BJD’s thread has been hijacked.

I think we are going to be awesome. After reading ya’lls post, I am inspired with next year’s team. I still consider this to be the rebuilding phase of the program but things should start to take shape with Gott’s personnel. If we do as well as we did this year, I will not be disappointed.

Besides Battle, we’ll have 4 upperclassmen. That is not so great. However, negativity should be limited. No false expectations from coach (former) to player. That is a morale killer. That and sleeping with your teammate’s girlfriend.

Ok thread stll hijacked but I tried.

Foose- you have talent at being offended. Must be the Irish in you. (was that racist? or nationalistic? Or insensitive? Do you want to talk about it?) I think we need a Posters Assistance Program (PAP) to help deal with this pain. BJD will facilitate all sessions.

Galt- Statefansnation is in need of a defensive-minded leader. If we can prevent posters from moving the ball where ever they want to on the boards, we will be able to mitigate that offensive threat. Maybe we should give the moderators new nicknames.

Really enjoying ya’lls post. Yes, insanity has sunk in.

Whoever deleted my post- thank you. That guy is getting under my skin with all his negative posts and campaigning. Don’t know what the axe grinding is about and might be more empathetic if I knew the whole story. I was not very diplomatic, recognize that and appreciate/respect your website.

Alpha- I truly had no idea. Thank you for the education, I think. You never know when it might come in handy. 🙂 (although it probably won’t- really an 80’s video game?- ok, all diplomacy has evaporated today due to school/work stress). I am assuming that there is no ear-biting in this video game.

I think the names are in jest and out of respect and that BJD should be responsible for coming up with the redskins next team name. Yes the nicknames if taken out of context can be considered……however, if you understand the history and the respect of the folks involved, the names make perfect sense.

Those who want to be offended will be.

My problem too with King Hippo is that his initials are KH. BJD, I’m surprised that you would ever tag a State player with that. I personally prefer K-Hip.

I always thought Black Falcon was a little racist coming out of Cheater U. I had some folks on my own team call me snowflake or glare or white girl, depending on our moods. I did not take that as malicious intent. It’s part of the culture.

King Hippo would be the most hurtful to me. However, Jeff Allen (I think) from VA tech was called big doughnut. #0 lost a ton of weight and was the 2nd best player his senior year. I view it as a motivational tool… We love the kid.

    Bill, great point… I agree.

But….. Brown was a 2 guy. He had to play point because of personnel issues. He also did a great job, except for the positive and on court leadership. His personality was more of a 2 guard too. Tyler could not do it- young and athletic ability. Hence, we are having that discussion too. Plus, he is the type of player that you have to leave in a while for him to get warmed up. Most of TL turnovers came early when he came off the bench.

Cat is our first pg. I really can’t name that many successful Fr point guards. They are not the norm.

    Really leaving now!

Skitchwolf – great post. Bill, spot on too. Any chance we can kick CHI out of the Union? Maybe a bonus prize for taking Detroit and NY. NY, future site of the ACC tourney. Uggggh. Home of the bed bugs, rat restaurants, bad weather, illiterate youth, and overpriced services. But hey, they have more of my tax dollars than my home state.

Hopefully, no Heidi or scaredy cat. Now, scarry cat would be awesome.

Ya’ll are more optimistic than me… Expectations are good though. I just don’t want to be in a three way tie for next to last in the conference.

Chop, I don’t think that is accurate. He has 2 years of recruitment classes. I don’t think Any of his guys have left.

Gott has rid himself of Low recruits and I would say besides those graduating and TJ, all with good reason. I would have looked forward to The coming off the bench but the kid has bigger dreams.

Addition by subtraction except for TJ and TL. Even SW, who broke records probably cost us more points on defense than he made on offense.

I also expect many more transfers as our program continues to improve. Natural progression.

Original member of the ACC. Fellow goat of Swoffy’s ACC blue mafia. Great rival. Storybook coaches. Passionate fan base. School less than a half day’s drive. Yeah, I will MISS them and do so already. Screw Pitt, Syracuse, BC, and ND. The ACC is worse not better with their departure. Sucks.

BJD/Rick, surprised little about your concern of transfers. I normally am lockstep with your views. I expect many transfers in the future too as the program transforms. Natural progression.

Red, I expect that to happen- transfers. Growth. If it didn’t, I would be very concerned.

Can you imagine all the promises and feeding unrealistic expectations Low made to kids and parents as he was being shown the door? He knew he was a goner in February. The only thing DY could have done was not tell him. They had a meeting in February. Humanistically, she did right. HR-wise she could have done differently. She did right but we are still dealing with Low fallout.

Bill- great story. You know, our society has gone soft. When I played forever ago, all freshman could not have a car and we’re not allowed to go home the first semester. The latter was a bball rule. Coach wanted us to establish routines- no time to go home and stay concentrated on bball and school. We had bad cop/good cop on our coaching staff. It was a wise move.

My parents/family was close by so I saw them every month, plus the phone calls. But I consider it different for girls vs boys. Social media has really changed things too.

    Love you Mr. Dog.

In about 2-4 years, I would want to look at trends. I knew after 2 years what a disaster of a coach Low was. We seem to have immediate improvement and Gott has had to deal with bs over the past 3 years while trying to recruit his own guys.

I don’t think we belonged in the NCAAT this year- it was about the new ACC not our team’s performance. It is amazing the way he finds a way to win or put the team in position to win. Low’s teams could never look beyond themselves (really because they knew Low was not a good coach but a buddy). Gott sueded better than expected in getting them prepared.

Bill, agree with you. However… if parents aren’t advocates to the kids who would be… Nope, not the coaches always. Coaches have their own agenda. It is up to the parents to get their kid mentally prepared for the everyday life. Coaches prepare you for the game.

I have no inside knowledge but can empathize with the tough decisions that TL and his parents are having to make. This seems like a great family. Kid is not happy and his closest friends either transferred or is getting ready to graduate. He is not getting the pt needed to get the exposure on a regular basis. I saw only 1 meltdown with this kid-friendly right before Christmas. Coach laid down the law and the parents provided the kid with support… Exactly the way it should have happened. If the parents were more pr inclined, they could have gone public with their dismay.

Good family, good kid. This might be the right move for TL. The problem is that they will never know but they want their son to be HAPPY- NBA or not.

2 posters seem to have a campaign against Gotta. Criticisms are fine but carried way overboard and suggesting replacement coaches at this juncture seems extreme, especially from 1 who claims personal conversations with the coach. It makes me think that he’s either nuts or he knows more than what he is posting. I am going with the vested interest theory and knows more than he is posting. That St Louis thread was ridiculous, the smart thread, the Miller talk, and talk of other coaches.

We were consistently last in the conference before Gott showed up. Now after 3 straight NCAA appearances with a bunch of mental cases on the team that the previous loser coach recruited (most of who were too lazy or not athletic enough to play in the ACC) , we want Gott gone. Wot, Wot? Crazy.

I liked TL because he was a blue chipper. I agree with the assessment that he needs a halfcourt set to distribute the ball. He is a liability on defense and is not an offensive threat. His vision on court is great but he never provided the leadership, which is the job of the pg regardless of the coach. Disappointed but understand. If he has any hope of playing NBA, he needs pt.

Transfers are normal with coaching transfers especially when considering the difference in coaching quality between Low and Gott. I don’t care where he goes- does not fit our program and wants pt vs team success- I do wish him well. Glad he stuck it out 2 years. Not having him this year to ease Cat would have been tough. Frankly, I am glad Low’s players are gone. Leslie, Brown (who had to sit a year because he could not qualify to enter State), Harrow, Purvis (admissions trouble). All were not mentally prepared for ACC basketball or college. I could list many, many more names of “quality” Low recruits… Let’s let it go but not forget. Let’s also be grateful to what we have now.

Redcanine- Second. We would make one heck of a committee. We could bring back Fowler to handle the details. 🙂
