as you all may know…Tonight is the FORTIETH anniversary of the “Greatest Game Ever Played in the ACC !”
Just summoning all the Ghosts from the South Smoking Porch… back to the Greensboro Coliseum for the weekend…
… and for the Twerps… how fitting is it… that today would be their last day in the ACC?? You can call that a coincidence if you like, but I won’t. The Ghosts don’t play.

Last time we saw ANTHONY with that opportunity was in the Dean Dome we he took ANTHONY on 3,4,or 5 to the ANTHONY SHOWTIME level….and he was 1-13 for the first half… thereby putting CUZ and the rest of his team mates in a major league “WTF funk”…
Gott just ain’t ready to take that chance again…. and neither is ANTHONY.

PLUS… here’s one old Wolf who is really hoping GOTT && Company reach into their bag of coaching tricks… AND bring out a couple of surprises — something nobody has seen all season!!
After the way Larranga abused them (GOTT && Company) in the last chess-game… I’m hoping they all GOTT their feelings hurt and are going to make damn sure that doesn’t happen again.

RE: next year….
As it stands today…Nobody knows 100% who will be on the roster and who won’t…
Everybody that plays next year… that played this year… will be much improved three ways…
1. Individually
2. In their ability to play with each other
3. Working productively within the concepts of GOTT && Company’s “system”…Both on the court and off…
So … just how hard is it… to say “We will be a better TEAM next year because of this year?”
The wildcard here is the same as everywhere else…
“Who is going to be next year’s HEADCASE?”From here… it looks like everybody gets at least one every year… some years more than one.. and we certainly have had our share…
We are pretty clueless as to how to answer that at this point… but I betcha a buck…. GOTT & Company already has a good idea…

You know it’s tough when “baseball” is your biggest revenue producing sport.Buzz was the “Big Money Hire” four years ago…
He didn’t have a lot to work with… NO point guard – just a couple kids who were “good one on-3/4/5 guys” in high school.
Then he had some bad luck at the beginning of this season with a couple of his BIGS; they didn’t get their eligibility papers right until Christmas, team struggled, lost 9-10 games by less than five points or so…. Sh%t happens…
I saw Buzz at lunch one day back in October… Interesting conversation….
basically the same as the one we’ve had here all season…Coach-ing v. Coach-ability…
except Buzz’s kids are three levels below GOTT’s…So in the meantime… our man Eddie Bidenbach is in charge… until his “replacement” arrives…
But there’s little chance, whoever that may be, will be any better than old Buzz….
unless he’s 30 yrs old or less and a potential future HOF-er … in which case he will be gone in three years.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!… probably “smarter” than they would like for us to think… too…

And I’m sure nobody has a bigger, prouder smile on their faces than Pop Warren and Gott && Company….

Truth is… Cuz’s chances of POY mid January were slim and none. Yeah… he was getting his twenty every night… but most of them were in spurts when the outcome of the game was settled. He was not nearly as productive when the game was on the line. And when things weren’t going the way he thought they ought to go… he had a tendency to disappear.
Two things, he had yet to do consitently, were holding him back….
1. Play at a consistent level the entire game, cut out those 6-8 minute invisible spots after halftime, and be there for your team at the end of game.
2. Make / Help everybody on the court play better.
The pass from under the basket, when he could have taken the ball up and maybe scored or maybe gotten a whistle, to Dez Lee for the three pointer with a minute to go against BC was CUZ’s signature/statement highlight for this season. In early January, that pass NEVER happens.
That pass has “Play Team Ball… Trust Your Team Mates” written ALL OVER IT! And that’s the Right Stuff that makes Champions… not scoring points.
So congratulations Cuz… for doing the hard things and the hard work…. over the last six weeks! We all knew you had it in you.
And congratulations Pop… for keeping CUZ in school after last year’s fiasco!!
And congratulations GOTT && Company… even though we know you were just doing your job the way you thought it needed to be done!!!

“Who wouldn’t want to play for GOTT & Company ?”
“Why wouldn’t CUZ want to come back and play for the Red & White next year ?”
Pop’s gonna tell him….
“Son .. do you know how many kids get a chance to hang their jersey beside David Thompson’s?
If you stay, you’ll get twice as much as Lottery Pick, instead of a low first round – high second round pick and you’ll play five years longer… Son… that’s no less than double the total money for your pro career… Listen to me, Son”

Yes… this has been true for the last too many years for too many good reasons….
But… “Expansion” doesn’t on it own exacerbate that; expansion restores that … especially when that “one day soon” — the day they have the big retirement party comes.
And we can see it coming…
The Orange was the “best team” in the conference until we played them up there… look at their record since..

….besides there are a dozen out of the 77 who wouldn’t vote for Parker or Ennis or anybody else for POY… just because the kid is a freshman…
