Instead of an inspiring piece of journalism, just another reminder of NC State futility. This article could have been so much more…

Talk about facts and presumptions, Freshman and Foose are making the assumptions. Yes, I agree, Wilson should have been the starter one more year. All he had to do was commit. He had a chance and he did not take it. It’s all on Russell Wilson who also happens to be one of my all time favorite State players.

Fact: Glennon was a graduate and could have come back or moved on without sitting out a year
Fact: Wilson was a graduate pursuing a baseball career
Fact: TOB was a head football coach who was responsible for making the best decision for the future of the football team
Fact: Glennon knew that if Wilson came back, Wilson would start
Fact: Glennon needed to make a career decision to stay or go and it was based completely on Wilson’s plan to commit
Fact: Wilson was under contract to a pro baseball team and wanted another opportunity to earn a chance to play in the Show. He was committed to his contract.
Fact: Wilson would not commit to another year of football at NC State
Fact: TOB made the ONLY decision that would 100% insure a returning QB for the following season on the date the decision needed to be made

There is no debate on these facts unless you just refuse to accept them. TOB was a million dollar decision maker. Glennon was a future NFL starter. Wilson would not / could not make a decision to play football because he already had a pro baseball contract. All three actors had a chance to keep the “bird in hand” or make a fateful decision. Wilson would not make it, so TOB was forced to.

I want to continue the thought process NCSU88 started above concerning academics. Take the situation where a kid flunks out after his first year. Can he go ahead and jump straight to the league or is he consigned to D-league or Europe until 21 or 3 years removed from High School? As for the school, do they lose anything for not achieving significant educational progress with the kids? Does this provide an incentive to create dumbed down curricula to keep kids eligible for three years instead of just one?

I am much more concerned about what happens to the schools when they are incentivized to cheat to keep kids eligible. We’ve seen it happen locally and there has been no punishment. Cal can bring kids in, put them in basket weaving, pay them under the new rules that everyone seems to be proposing and never pay the price for not educating the kids. I just don’t trust the academic standards to help keep this new rule enforced.

I really like the fact that Coach has confidence in Dez to finish the game. His minutes may be down, but he looks indispensable at the end of the game. Shoots well from the free throw line and takes care of the ball. Those two jams at the end of the game were huge and allowed the crowd to really exhale in relief and celebration. Great game Dez – keep it up!

13OT – do you think Bama running off the field without stopping to shake hands was classless as well or are you just subjectively judgmental against FSU? Herbstreet was classless to make a big deal out of that.

I was there – lower bowl, east sideline, behind the State bench, top of the 3-point line. I took my father, son and a friend. The intro video made my father and I both well up with tears as we watched with pride the history of our great program play out on the old video board.

Slow start, but a great finish. I thought our program was on the cusp of greatness once again. I moved from Raleigh to Charleston, SC the following year and eventually gave up my lifetime right seats. I still have ticket stub and possibly the program.

I’m kind of surprised that there are more Duke fans (18%) than State fans (15%). I graduated high school in 1974 and I can’t remember more than 2 kids who called Duke their favorite team. It must be all the newcomers over the last 30 years who have jumped on the Duke bandwagon.

All right, I’ll go first as being positive, optimistic and looking forward to the home schedule.

First, I think the staff has used its first full recruiting year to bring in a good group of players. Some of these Freshmen will play, but the main thing they will bring to the team is a better attitude than the Seniors we lost from last year. In many ways, this will be similar to the “addition by subtraction” we had in Men’s Basketball this past season.

Second, our guys now have a year of the new system under their belt plus a spring practice at full speed instead of learning the language and plays. Just from a preparation standpoint, they should play fundamentally better ball.

Third, in regards to our home schedule – I buy tickets to watch my team, the NC State Wolfpack, play. If the other team sucks, well, that’s a pretty low stress afternoon for me and I can enjoy the tailgate before AND after the game.

Finally, my expectation for this season is for something similar to our last basketball team. They will be young, spunky and competing for the opportunity to get in the game. Add in a QB that can’t help but be better than last years triage of hobbled hopefuls and it could get interesting.

You guys should stop all the handwringing 4 months before the season. Let’s try to get behind these guys despite what anyone else says about them. You heard it here first – the Pack wins 8 games this season and gets at least one major upset.

Sorry, I don’t know how to post links better. 3 articles Thursday on State Players in the Wall Street Journal

Alpha – I don’t get your comments above. We charge much less for NE Sisters of the poor than for a league game. Why are you insistent that the AD’s would rather sell a $35 ticket instead of a $65 ticket?

Also, the AD’s approved the 9-game schedule in 2012. As the article specifically says, they went back to 8 games to allow ND to compete in a partial rotation.

The solution is to create the marketable package with 9 games which could possibly lure ND into full time participation or push them out for a better full time member. The NBC deal with ND is not a lifetime agreement.

Clarksa – that is the best response to this I’ve seen. I hate going to any game on Thanksgiving weekend. We already have too much to do that weekend.

NCStatePride – I did read the entire article. I understand well how to use words that cast a subjective stance on an objective issue. Please excuse my cynicism.

Is it going to be like this every week on this site? It’s 2011 and we have a new team with new players. Is Glennon the only guy we can rip or is there an agenda?

NCStatePride: Rather than delete this, I thought I’d make a point. It’s blatantly obvious that you didn’t read the article or didn’t get anything out of it. Absolutely NONE of this article is about “ripping Glennon” and it’s not about comparing him to Russell Wilson or starting another Russell Wilson discussion. In the future, I would encourage you to actually read the content on this site rather then assume what is or isn’t being discussed.

Hard to please any one of those groups without “possibly” offending the rest. It’s possible the powers making the decision have identified the music which connects with the largest group, but dissappoints the largest cohort – the students. Just sayin….

Do you know the difference between mean and median?

I’m 54 and I like all kinds of music from 50’s to MM, BEP and literally all things in between. If you focus on one type of music (WTH is “getting hype” or “not as hype”???) you are ignoring the pre-game thought process of the vast majority of the crowd.

Country music is vastly more popular than anything that’s been mentioned on this thread, but can you imagine hearing that just before the team runs onto the field. Some feel the same way about your choices.

Sounds to me like you enjoy anything with a “threat-level-red” beat in an urban or grunge genre. I guess that works if you’re hoping to pump up the students. It has an opposite effect for a lot of others – particularly traditionalist – who detest that kind of music. We have two fight songs that everyone should know and love. Outside of that, it’s a crap shoot on what kind of music gets a crowd fired up to watch football and cheer for their team. If you’re looking for anything stronger than that, I think you’re hoping for too much.

Final thought, is there anything more adolescent than a music snob?

Like the first poster said, we would have likely lost this game anyway, but the refs flat out jobbed us. I truly believe our team got down after the first flurry of terrible calls and figured there was no way we were going to win. After that, they just mailed it in. This would not have happened with a more seasoned team. I can easily blame Coach for not preparing his team better or keeping their head in the game, but again, a more mature team would have known how to react to the situation and the coach.

    A few observations:
*We don’t have a vocal leader on the floor that can rally the team.
*Scott Wood is the only player that appeared to not give up and exerted full effort the entire game.
*Leslie looks like a head case.*Harrow is useless on defense and causes other players to play out of position to cover for him.
*Lo Brown can create when the rest of the team is moving, but teams collapse on him when we stand around.
*Howell needs Tracy or another productive big man to prevent double downs.
*JG and CJW must produce for us to be succesful and we need their leadership.
*Lowe better get off his can or he’ll be looking for a new job next year.
