L. Freeman, Abu, and Markell is not exactly leaving the cupboard bare, but I get your point. I like the reinforcements (A. Freeman and Hunt), but I’m concerned they are a bit undersized. Any time we have a transfer from a smaller conference, the question arises on how they match up with ACC competition. We lucked out with Lacey and Turner. Too bad we need to wait until round two to see Daniels.

I’m afraid that Carolina will start to hit more of those threes and their size will wear Gonzaga down. Zags are playing with more energy, hope they can keep the level up.

Hire the biggest star basketball coach, and get the he!! out of the way. Hearing these stories about Sweaty Gary, Marshall rubbing the wrong way, and now having something against Wade..well that really chaps my hide.
We make things so complicated. Anyone stop to think that since Herb left town or was forced out, or virtually fired, that Archie was also “fired” once already from State? Why look back, and to not so fond memories? Turn the page.

Sounds like the senior Miller has a serious ax to grind. Maybe we should make him a consultant for the next AD search. John Miller–help us do this right?
You can argue that Indiana does or does not have recruiting advantages, arguments supporting either are to some extent true. But Indiana does not have recruiting disadvantages, and places that do will have trouble pulling coaches that have a track-record of established success. There’s a reason why S. Carolina can get a Martin, and Virginia Tech can get a Buzz Williams where we are not so fortunate. Being in the ACC *and* in NC hurts the attractiveness of the job. (In fact, it is a flat-out unattractive job.) If either of those things were not true the job would be much more attractive. These are realities that we ignore when we create a list of 10 candidates, get the #7 candidate, and then assume something went wrong. This is not just a difficult job for a coach, its also one for the AD. It will be interesting to see if the AD search in two years takes a similar shape. I really don’t know if Keatts’ familiarity with HS coaches in NC will make any difference for the level of talent needed to compete in the ACC, my comments are not directed towards that.

There’s a reason why some programs (e.g., Butler, Oregon, etc) that have suddenly decided to focus on basketball are doing very, very well. The dank reality, that smart folks Millers are keenly aware of, is it ain’t just the coaching.Both State and Indiana are tough places to win with high expectations. Indiana has a bit more of a tradition so the expectations are even higher. But Indiana has some built-in geographic recruiting advantages or no particular recruiting advantage. State actually has built-in geographic recruiting disadvantages. So some recruiting foothold is important or ability to recruit nationally or internationally.
Guess we’re going to find out how hard a job Indiana really is. Was Crean that bad or it’s just difficult to recruit there. Happy day for Arch.
I wonder if our interest in Arch pushed Crean out the door and forced IU’s hand on the buyout they didn’t want to eat.
anyone else feel like Arizona’s Miller underachieved this year and has been a pattern? we dodged a bullet not hiring that guy..
Georgetown just fired John Thompson III. Keatts almost certainly would have been a major candidate there.

i was in agreement that the salary was a bit steep, until I saw what happened to OSU.
Think of the length of the contract as a recruiting tool. If he was given 4yrs, then immediately new recruits next year may wonder if they’ll see him their senior year. It seems to have become a standard starting duration. I think she did the best given the constraints; the result may have been different if *her* contract wasn’t so short : ) And we need to work on getting Goodnight involved as a donor : )
