ANd money was obviously a factor in the hiring of Keatts. He may work out but we went cheap.

I keep hearing this line of thought but as someone else mentioned, Keatts $2.2million puts his contract in the top 20 as per http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach/

Who on that list did you want, and for how much? Do you think Archie deserves to be paid $3million and put in the top ten?

BTW, look at what Sean is making compared to ORW. AT least that’s what ORW’s “listed” compensation is, I would imagine he gets a pretty penny through “channels”.

Yeah ORW is a special case. Perhaps his additional stream is Nike, but I can only imagine the perks of coaching where you have a billionaire former player.

I would have totally given Archie Sean’s salary, that’s “F* U” money right there, that’s to show how much he’s wanted, money. But alas its an imaginary wallet. I don’t understand why Goodnight wouldn’t help out his alumni for a power play like that.

Weird to hear this, could be sour grapes, but seems like they weren’t enamoured with him.

Also interesting to read about how VCU fans considering their program high level. And I’m puzzled in general by program like this, Xavier, and the likes, they recruit well, are regularly in the NCAAs, but are constantly rotating coaches. I guess geographic advantages.

Looking at the USA Today list we’re paying new coach top 20 salary. Yes, Gott was stealing money.

It is within the AD’s purview to do this sort of fundraising? Don’t tell me we can’t pool our biggest donors to sum 30 mil for 6 years.

Winning the presser is easy. I’d like to see a good in game coach, making strategic adjustments. Gott was a C- at best and regularly out coached by the likes of Roy or K. I’m not sure about this pressing defense thing, sounds like a gimmick, I’d rather see a coach with a real defensive system that can just shut people down. And can we get back to recruiting top shooters? Feels like that stat has regularly dropped. If he can keep all eligible in the fold this is a 7 seed team at worst.

    A C- for in game adjustment? Try a F-.

AL? (After Lutz), sure F it is.

    geez, look at these numbers:
    http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach/

6 mil would have put Marshall in the top 3. Ton of coaches in that 2-3 mil range., that Keatts is now in. Asking for a high salary is sometimes a way to say no. If they will only come for a very high salary, do they really want to be there? (And hear that accent.) But just seems like a high salary (6 mil) combined with Yow’s retirement just makes for a “risky” situation. Which unfortunately makes her sticking around a sort of a blocker for moves like this.

Search team should have asked about salary, along with interest in job! Marshall is probably 5-6 million, Miller and wade 3-4 million. Just don’t think we could make the numbers work. DY and Wolfpack club had to factor cost.

I would have paid the 6mill to get Marshall.

that was my question all along. Can’t Murphy just cut a big enough check to really invest in the program?

Also baffled why with a donor like T. Boone Pickens OSU went on the cheap and even lost their guy.

we don’t know if tier 1 fell apart by money or interest, but we all know money motivates interest, and we didn’t even fly tier 1 guys out to throw piles of cash in their face. we went cheap and safe. And that’s why folks like BJD have collapsed into a corner somewhere since the announcement.

She places a great deal of “faith” in personality. Ironically, she has a similar viewpoint to many of our fans who are enamoured with “swagger” and the “it” factor. If I were to wax poetic with her on the effectiveness on coaching I would probably surmise that both Dean and Coach K would have likely failed that test. (As would Bill Belicheck.)

Well put and this is the part that blows me away. And why I liked Wade. Obsessive competitiveness over expert shmooser.

No real reason we should lose anyone besides the expected graduation and DSJ as a first rounder.

Improving over the past two season is an expectation, not a hope, since we have hit very “Lowe” levels of performance (sorry Sid).
Achieving what Gottfried did in his best seasons is also an expectation, which if the hype is real is achievable in the first 2-3 years, and is sustainable only if K’s trajectory translates to this level.

addition by subtraction. Yes a sophmore Markell is better for the team then a frosh DSJ coming off an ACL. And suddenly it’s a deep, older team with lead rebounder returning. Still contingent on keeping the core together.

Typical ACC cannot handle physicality allowed by non ACC refs. ACC stands for finesse league. Washington and the Bearcats being served by Ball and Co.

They have Alkins, Markenen, Comanche…scored 12 is 17 minutes. Just think what Gott could do with this team
