I am old and I dont understand

‘If NCSU does hire Libetards Stevie Kerr or Greggy Poppovich, then there WILL, I suspect, be a small (Numbers…but MEGA in terms of $$’s Donated to the WPC and NCSU Athletics) uprising. ‘

Stephen Douglas “Steve” Kerr is an American former professional basketball player and the current head coach of the Golden State Warriors. no chance in #&!! of hiring him

Gregg Charles Popovich is an American basketball coach who is currently the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association. no chance in #&!! of hiring him

I dont understand the references to hiring these guys

From my memory banks, the UNC deal was pretty clear. There was a coaching (and massive “program reputation….continuation” crisis in AFAMville. There was NO heir apparant. MG Mark Gottfreid was not gonna come back. Phil Ford still had too much dust ….

do you understand the confusion you are presenting?
your posts are very good, I want to understand them, please make it easy on us old guys, I dont have the time or energy to treat everytihing as a puzzle and look everything up. I stay confused most of my day please dont make it worse. when I graduated from State (both times) there was no such thing as acronyms

    MG should be easy enough.
    DES = the Nose.

its not that easy when we dont know who you are talking about. it is really hard to read a post when the reader has to stop and think, who is he talking about? by the time I figure it out, I have no idea what you were talking about and have to go back and re-read the whole post. I think DES is Dean Smith, but is it really that hard to type out the name?
I still do not know who MG is? “MG was not gonna come back. ” I have no idea who you are talking about?
your posts are very enlightening but the acronyms make them brutal to comprehend.
Who is DB? Daughertry Brad backwards?

why do you use acronyms for names?
is it too hard to spell out?
who is MG, DB, DES, ARC?

do you remember that Roy Williams at Kansas turned UNC down when they went with Matt Doherty. then 3 years later, as I remember, they fired Matt and Roy turned them down again and then something changed his mind? was it Dean that twisted his arm? I remember them saying that Roy was their last hope to stay in the family because Self from Ill was their second choice.
Did Roy really want to stay at Kansas or was this a strategy for negotiation?

Could there be parallels with Ryan Miller?
Do we have a way of using this same strategy?

another article somewhere said that Archie would wait out an offer from Ohio State? IF OSU were to let Thad Matta go with his history then the press should roast them. an article today said that Matta is still popular with the fans, I cant see OSU letting Matta go, can anyone? are they more delusional than us Wolfpack fans?
Archie could take our job and still go to OSU if they offer sometime in the future. I cant see Archie holding out for something that may never happen?
Crean has not done anything spectacular at IU, I would hate to take him.

is there anyway we can have ONE new discussion for potential new coaches and get off the Gottfreid topic?
Or is this it, maybe the title should be modified to be clearer?

Is there realistically zero chance that a coach is named before that coach is finished in the NCAA?
    step one – fire coach – 2/16/17
    step 2 – announce a new coach – April
are we basically in limbo for the next month with zero chance for any new information between now and then? they do it in football but it seems never in basketball.
is there any chance a coach is locked up but not announced until after NCAA?
Or, as Archie says, no one is willing to spend brain energy on where they may coach next year.

If Archie and Marshall are both interested, a strategic approach would be to play them against each other in the sense of “let’s interview you, and if we offer you, you have 24 hours, and by the way this other guy is interested and his offer is written up too, whatever you want to do is OK”.

this is the best way to be left with no one

could an explanation be that Yow gave Mark a way to save his job that everyone expects him to fail at?
He seemed very focused in the interview with the press today, as if he knows he has a lot of hard work to do, to save his job.
Maybe she said “IF” you make the NCAA tournament this year with this team you can save your job?

I think there are only two ways for NC State to make the NCAA this year
    1. win the ACC tournament
    2. beat Carolina and then win out the rest of the season (8-10 regular season) and win two games in the ACC tournament and therefore have a .500 win percentage (10-10) in conference.

Then everyone deducts from this scenario that it is likely that Mark does not accomplish either of these and therefore loses his job?

I also think Debbie Yow created this mess, she should clean it up before she leaves.

its got to be Miller with a very long contract so that he is comfortable with the new AD coming in 2 years.

is it really Miller or bust? Is there anyone, short of coach K or R Pitino, on the list above Archie?
is he at the top of everyone’s list? I know it is not a slam dunk, but are there any negatives?
I wish someone would put together a complete ranking of who we could get or should look at:
what about Archie Miller with Bobby Lutz as an assistant? was Lutz forced out or did he leave on his on? (jumped/pushed).
is prior head coaching experience a prerequisite for our coach?
in fairness to Keatts in the article in another thread, I watched Dayton the other night against URI and I saw Flyers jacking up some controversial threes without running any type of offense also. Dayton did win the game though.

Larranaga may have cost Virginia an ACC Championship (unrelated to topic).

We need to go dynamic. Let’s try the mid-major route for once. Maybe we hit the gold mine.

this statement makes absolutely no sense at all??
how has Larranga cost UVA an ACC championship?
they have not even played this year? Larranga used to asst coach UVA but that was 20 years ago.

Best call u can make is Greg, then Archie next, then just keep Gott and force him to have a great vet assistant.

who would be a worthy veteran assistant to help Gott? a Jim Laranga type that does not seem to recruit too well but knows how to develop talent, Bob McKillop, Davidson?
what really happened to bobby Lutz

When will it be approprite to start discussing possible saviors for our basketball team? illinois is already discussing options and they beat us.
    I have heard :
    Archie Miller Dayton
    Kevin Keatts UNC Wilmington
    Greg Marshal WS
    Cuonzo Martin CA
Jim Groce Ill (thats a joke)

what really amazes me are the coaches that we have passed on the last two times that are consistently in the top 25 every year. Turgeon, Mack, but I guess hindsight is 20/20
what is the best strategy? I remember hearing that Lee Fowler wanted to win the press conference
A-young up-and-coming mid-major head coach like Archie Miller, Keatts
B-seasoned veteran like when Miami went with Laranga or Oklahoma going with Lon Krugar or Michigan going with Belein, or Tennessee with Barnes
C-long time assistant from major program, like Wake going with Manning one year away from kansas or any of many assistants hired from Duke’s bench,
who are the guys in waiting under pitino, K, Izzo, Self, Boheim, Bennet, Brey
Do we go high risk long term
or low risk low ceiling proven comodity safe hire

What is the difference in the positions listed? Not the difference in the players, just the difference in the names of the positions?
    (F) and a (4F) Kirk and Abu/Freeman
Wing and a (3F) Several players and Maverick
(SG) and a (2G) Dorin and TH

I was sitting right behind the bench. Caleb Martin was playing very well in the first half. he had a nice block on a fast break layup. then on the other side of the court his man was wide open for an uncontested 3, then the next time down the court the same guy was wide open for another and made it two straight. Gott called an immediate timeout and spent the first 60 seconds of the timeout staring Caleb down. Caleb never raised his head up to acknowledge (that I could see) Mark’s stare.
He did not return after that event.
