The problem with value/price is the timing factor. It doesn’t matter how much a comparable guy is making somewhere else. If I’m on the short list and you HAVE to hire, I can demand a lot more than even a better coach did last year. The cost of getting the deal done is a part of it.

    1. If we know Keatts was our two, do we know who was our one?
    2. Why in the world are we letting this out if it’s still just an offer?

I’m in SEC country and my father-in-law told me the day we hired Gott: “Well, he’s a good coach. But you won’t make free throws and you won’t play defense.” We’ve talked about that two dozen times in the last five years.

If you went to bed early, you missed a great game. My brother’s family and my family all ended up at my parents house to watch (we’re in TN). You could feel we still had something in us, but after chances in the 9th and 10th, I thought we might be falling behind a little.

The adults in the room were acting like a kid on Christmas morning when we saw home umps arms fly out to the sides. What a game, what a win. Go Pack!

Yea, I can see both sides, but if we were able to put ourselves back in the situation, I think you have to role the dice on Glennon. It’s very possible the exact opposite could have happened. Glennon leaves for a program that fits him perfectly, he plays immediately and racks up two incredible years. Goes on to win a SuperBowl ring. Wilson comes back after no spring practice and we’re okay. Wilson’s a backup on someone’s roster right now with a lot of potential.

It’s all mute at this point, anyway.

Incredible stuff. Is there any point in cross-referencing the ODS info with a team’s tourney seeding? In other words, would there be a telling difference if two teams with similar ODS’s were ranked as a 5 seed vs. a 6 seed? Could this tell you if you’re a 5 seed with an ODS of 19, you have a much better chance of E8 appearance than a 6 seed with an ODS of 19?

    Just curious.

Comparing Archie as the NC State head coach with Gott as the NC State head coach is just not realistic. There is nothing but emotional upside to Archie (in this position), and currently nothing but emotional downside to Gott.

If you took out the names and had an objective observer compare their resume’s, I would say most if not all of us would want the kind of credentials/experiences Gott has as opposed to Archie.

For those who just like to pick fights, I’m not saying Archie isn’t a good coach, or even that Archie may not end up having a better coaching career than Gott. What I am saying is that the State fan base can’t even begin to make a smart decision about comparing these two right now.

Great article. This is why I would pay for access to SFN. One interesting correlation I was thinking was how the backcourt seems to influence more than their “share” of the four factors. I know people have said it’s a guards game these days, but I wonder if the stats actually back that up.

Obviously, the eFG% and TO% probably rely on guard play more on both sides of the ball (given the 3pt influence). But I wonder how much efficient guard play influences how quickly a team gets into the bonus? Seems to me this could be how quality guard play really matters. Interesting stuff. Looking forward to more. Thanks!

We simply don’t trust the offense (that we don’t run correctly), and it’s just down to lazy ball movement until someone gets brave.

That’s the only thing I’ve got against you, BJD. Liverpool looked very fluid today and #15 is back! See ya next weekend!

Agree completely. As I said in a post 20 days ago:

Must wins: Va Tech, Clemson, WF (done) 3-0

    3 out of 5 wins: @WF, @FSU, @Clemson, @BC, @Miami 3-2

2 out of 3 wins (and really where we find out things): Syracuse, ND, Pitt 2-1

If we can produce these eight wins, this gives us 10 games to lose, the above three and then the following seven: @GT, @Louisville, UNC, @UNC, Duke, UVA, @UVA. I think we would need to win 2 of these 10 going into the ACCT to have a shot. This would leave us at 19-12 overall.

The interesting thing is the schedule. Technically, we could be 1-6 going into the must win Clemson game and still be on schedule, but having burned through 6 of our 8 losses, leaving a complete turn-around kind of season as our only hope. I think we’ll know whether there’s a realistic chance 5 games in. If we’re 1-4, we’re playing for an NIT berth. If we’re 2-3, we’re on schedule and have some must wins coming up before the end of January. If we’re 3-2, we’ve put it together and inside looking out.

After the FSU win, we were in great shape – 3-2. We’ve given up every bit of that ground over the last two games. Still not “behind schedule”, but back to straddling the fence.

Next three games are HUGE! Clemson at home and WF on the road are quite simply must wins. At GT is a must win to give us breathing room. After the @WF game, it gets really tough. Honestly, with our current level of play, at that point, VT is the only expected win remaining.

Statefans, yea, me too. How does one get that? I can’t actually go back and watch the Duke game b/c CBS doesn’t have it available.

I think the reason our offense looks better with Lacey at point is because Lacey is a scorer, and this causes him to naturally create movement on his own. Lacey has run offense, attract attention and dish, AND take it and score options whenever the ball is in his hands. Cat really only has one of those most of the time. I think today’s game showed how much movement we can have on offense, without actually running our offensive set.

canine, I agree if Cat had a shot, it would make him MUCH more potent. I think we missed him a little today, just the composure on the ball. But I will definitely take the win and prayers to Cat’s family.

    STATE

Okay, fellas, yesterday was great. It’s also over. As of right now, there’s only one game that matters. Carolina comes in here in two days and I want to end it the same way we ended yesterday. we are still middle of the conference and there is a whole lot of season left. Let’s prove it to ourselves and the entire country that Pack basketball really is top 10!

Starting now, if I don’t see focus, smart basketball, and 100% commitment, you don’t see the floor on Wednesday. Let’s go to work.

    Caroline and Duke, who cares.

I think Turner has to take that three. We’re not under 2 yet, it’s an open three with the ball in Turner’s hands. That’s one of the highest percentage shots we have.

    Keep up the offensive aggressiveness.
