Based on ESPN’s current RPI, remaining games by Quadrant:
Although ND and @GT could end up being Q3 by the end of the season as they are right on the cusp at the moment.
per Jeff Goodman – “Winthrop coach Pat Kelsey has change of heart and backs out of UMass job. “He just didn’t feel like it was the right place for him,” a source close to Kelsey told ESPN.”
LOL – glad this isn’t happening to us this time around.
And for someone making $3.5m you would think that he had the resources and momentum, post-final four, to be able to recruit at a high level. His recruiting classes after the final four:
2013 – #92
2014 – #79
2015 – #60
2016 – #68
2017 – #150
Great coach but still a major risk at that price tag.
He did have a nice final 4 run but even Gottfried would’ve made an elite eight if we had met a 13 seed La Salle in the sweet 16.
I know I’ll probably get roasted for this but Gregg Marshall is not a sure bet at $5m. I enjoy watching the way his teams play offense AND defense but at the end of the day, he was 0-3 during the regular season against tourney teams.
Former VA tech coach James Johnson expected to join Keatts’ staff. Is Miami’s director of basketball operations and was a college teammate of Keatts per Giglio.
Clemson keeping Brownell.
He seems to have already made a good impression on the players. Videos of Abu, Nard, Kirk, and Dorn from today:
Goodman reporting that Wade is a frontrunner for LSU job.
Lol, I know you guys rightfully thought I was trolling you about the uber ride but I wasn’t.
Sean telling Archie not to take the job because he wants the UNC job is the ultimate #ncstate$hit
Giglio also said Sean doesn’t want Archie to take the job, according to a source, because Sean thinks he will be the next UNC coach.
Statered44 – he is saying that Yow doesn’t want to wait out if tier 1 goes deep into the tourney and miss out on tier 2/3, I believe.
There are two schools of thought on Archie
1) Yow won’t be held hostage again after ’11
2) They will talk to him, if he expresses interest
Joe Giglio just tweeted that it is a two coach race: Keatts and Wade.
A lot of missed layups by UNCW during that UVA run.
BJD95, anyway to direct message on this site. Sorry not much of a wordpress guru.
I tend to agree. As it has been documented on this site, State essentially recruits itself regardless of coach. Maybe he’ll hire Keatts to be his recruiter.
My main knock on Archie is his recruiting. 4 of his 5 starters are seniors this season so you would think that would mean a big recruiting class but 247 has their 2017 class ranked 109. For comparison, State’s class ranking with ONE recruit is ranked 101. Wade’s class at VCU is ranked 34th.
Rest of his classes:
I know his recruiting would drastically improve just by being at State but do you think he can recruit on the level needed to win an NCAA title? Without looking at the rankings, I would have to guess that Villanova is the only champion in the last decade to win without top 15 classes every year.
Jay Williams tweeted today: “North Carolina State needs to hire Levelle Moton from North Carolina Central. One of the best young minds in the sport.”
Wonder if he would give any other ACC school the same advice.
The rumors of big brother advising against taking the job are hopefully just a ploy to get a bigger offer from State.
Cal could be open soon. Would be a nice low pressure job for Archie to join his brother in the punishing Pac-12.
Not to mention that Indiana has won their conference 2 out of the last 5 years and they still might fire their coach.
538 has an interactive bracket that shows all their game probabilities:
Has Wichita at 69% v. Dayton and 24% v. Kentucky. Interesting that VCU is only 26% v. St. Mary’s. Biggest underdog of the 7/10 matchups.
