The problem for State is you never know if there will even be “any 1 or 2 of EIGHT”.
Yep… they’re still young kids… but that’s the other coaches headache…more than ours…
Any math wizard can figure the odds are in our favor of some one showing up…
especially if the last four or five games are considered as a group…Tonight… I’m betting on the BIGS…

…when I wrote that I was really thinking about the past couple of seasons when some people said we had no bench and that Coach GOTT would never play more than seven guys…Has anybody GOTT any ideas as to who the Zebras might be tonight???

yeah.. when we really needed is shot in the second half against Dook… it wasn’t there…
but…We had been one of the top ranked “inside scoring” as a percentage of total points teams in the country all season…
It’s one thing to get a three pointer when the shooter is hot… it’s a whole other deal to get one when you have to have one… especially when that has not been your modus operandi all season.
Dez, whose was MIA for most the ACC Tournament, is more problematical that Turner missing threes….
and the fair question remains unasked and unanswered… with Dook in total Lockdown mode on CUZ… why didn’t the ball go in the paint during that critical 2-1/2 minutes.That’s all ancient history now and we GOTT a game to win tonight… but herein lies the keys to tonight’s game…

They will determine the outcome of the game for us.Perhaps the best news is that it could be any one or two out of EIGHT guys… and that makes it real tough on the opposing Coach.

To put that another way…
Did the Committee members have well formed preconceived notions about who they wanted to select and who they didn’t want to select before they sat down… and if so, to what extent was the ‘sit down’ just a matter of finding good answers to justify their prior thinkng?

And as long as people sit on the Committee and make selections instead of letting the computer just crunch the numbers and then letting the numbers fall where they may… the will always be some version of an EPI.

“EPI” rankings…
that’s the “Eyeballs Power Index”…
a composite number that ranks each team by historical data regarding the following factors…1. Name Recognition of School.
2. Name Recognition of Coach.
3. Name Recognition of Key Players.
4. The Relative Size of the Fanbase.
5. The EPI of the school’s top three rivals.
6. The EPI of the school’s conference.
7. The WOW factor surrounding this season’s team.The EPI ranks schools by
1. the SIZE of the potential TV audience, social media traffic, pre-game and post game media hits
and…
2. the “built-in” CONTENT available to connect, promote and generate “traffic”, “activity” and “audiences”…Bottom line here is … The Committee instructions were clear… when everything else is too close to call…

A whole lot of people might be watching our game Tuesday… just to see who’s right and who’s wrong…
but the bottom line is that either is gold to everybody on the money end of things…
and that’s what the higher EPI guarantees…———–
The Legacy of Coach Valvano is that there will always be an NCSTATE “basketball” story to tell/sell…
Compare our EPI to SMU, GB, FSU bball… and who ever else didn’t get in… that answer is pretty clear.

First… The “Baseball Rule” makes so much sense … it’s ridiculous that it has not been adopted…
Second… The Rule that doesn’t let a player back into college after he declares for the draft (and comes up well short of his expectations ) needs trashing…

Out of high school… either you go pro or you go to school and make some grades and play some ball for three years..
If the first case doesn’t work out… there’s Europe and the D-leaque..
In the second case… if a player wants to test the waters after his third year in college and does not like the “temperature”… then can THEN choose to play his fourth year…
After the fourth year is finished… he can do whatever…
To keep coaches from overloading the bench… Some revisions in the transfer rules are needed, but that needs to be done carefully and with the players’s long term best interests at heart.
Finally, everybody needs $100 a week “walking around money” from August to May,

Losing by 40 in Dayton is better than winning the NIT.
Unfortunately, if we lose a “Play In” game by 40 in GodKnowsWhereEVERwithoutADecentAirport then it only because nobody gave a sh%t… and that’s the worst possible outcome…. especially with these kids who have busted their A$$es all season..
Don’t think, however, that it couldn’t happen…
I still got that second game in the NCAA last year in my head….Either way it goes… NCAA or NIT… I’m happy…

If we go to NCAA tournament … we’re gonna travel a long way for one game in front of a small crowd and come right back home.
If we go to the NIT… we could play 3-4 games and the kids could just play and have some ‘real fun’ on the court, have a nice weekend in NYC, and maybe even win the Tournament. And they all still have something bigger to shoot for next season.
Same for our Coaches.
The NIT really might be the best reward for what has been, by most all accounts, a successful season…

First … think about the first Dook game… then…
Today…
Tyler and ANTHONY had TWO turnovers, 6 assists and 12 points..
Freeman GOTT 13 points and 9 rebounds…^This… by two freshman against the same Dook team AND in the ACC Tournament.
———-The game was tied at 45 with 15:30 left in the second…
Jefferson, who will haunt us until he graduates… hat tip to Jefferson,Sr. for that…
dunked at 13:48 mark to put the Devils up by NINE 45-54….The rest of the game was basically even…. for thirty eight minutes… if you count the last five…
If you don’t it really doesn’t matter… you can just be satisfied saying we played them even for 31 out of the first 33 minutes.Among other things… this points out clearly what, for lack of a better phrase,
the margin of error is in big, important, do or die games.And you have to play at least that good to beat Coach Rat when he doesn’t want to be beat.
First.. he went 100% Parker the first three and half minutes which surprised everybody on our end of the floor and got them thinking…
Then… he saved the TJ special D — until the second half … when he needed it most.
He saved his defense for the second half when it mattered..————
Our Coaches GOTT 100% of what they could out of our kids… unfortunately someone somewhere won’t be 100% satisfied with that.

for the stat guys..Our RPI ought to go UP with a quality loss (8pts) to a legitimate Top Ten team…. shouldn’t it ??
