Pack Loses Thursday Off, ACC Loses Last Shred of Credibility

In the most incompetently officiated game I have ever seen, on any level…NC State falls to the 5th seed and 11-7.

Anyone who doesn’t want to leave this bullshit joke of a conference needs their head examined.

Alpha! Do you realize what you just said?

No thanks. Been there, done that.

  2. Alpha Wolf 03/09/2013 at 5:26 PM #

Alpha- TOB can’t pick grass courtside…

And some might argue that TOB’s defenses were as poor as well.

I stand by what I said – that State needs an assistant who coaches defensive fundamentals. You know, like raising your arms and footwork. Scratch the drill sergeant analogy, but the point remains.

Leslie also needs to try another move beside that spin to the basket. Teams have that thing pegged. Get a bigger guy on him and it is swat city with that thing. Problem is he can’t shoot, so it all has to be going toward the basket. He hasn’t developed the way I thought he would. And he should go straight to the gym and shoot free throws once they get in to Raleigh tonight. Shoot 1000 of them. Plenty of time to rest. I guarantee you we are going to need him to make a few in these upcoming tourneys. It has gotten so bad I don’t know why teams don’t put him on the line intentionally.

I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS SEASON TO BE OVER. FRUSTRATING DOESN’T EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE THIS PILE OF TURD. If you didn’t think this game was going to go this way, and no I’m not speaking of the officiating, then you can go back under the rock you came from. We absolutley have no heart/soul, no motivation…zilch. Listen idiots, when we start the game and only score 2 points in the first 3 1/2 minutes with the offensive team we have something is absolutely bat shit wrong. Face it douche bags!!!! God get this over and fast please!!!! This team is lost and trust me, there will be no acc or ncaa tourney run. If I’m wrong beers are on me at my local High Point, NC Outback. That’s my word

I have faith in Mr. Gott. He has done it before (twice even, Murray State and Alabama). He will put the pieces together. Maybe not this year and maybe not next year but I am certain he will do it. Our team does not have all the pieces to go all the way. I know that, Gott knows that and now everybody knows it. But the improvement I see keeps my faith in the man.

maybe it was a little much for me to suggest conference conspiracy earlier. In some ways, yes the game was called tight. In other ways it looked like a full scale scrum under the basket with no whistles. Very bizarre to me. That’s why it felt inconsistent to me.

Refs this, refs that. Christ, we sound like a bunch of pusses.

Howell played stupid, and had CJ played any longer it just would have added to FSU’s victory.

You can’t have your only two post players acting like a bunch of tards out there on the road and expect to ever win. I screamed when Howell fouled that 7’3″ goofy ass melvin for his 4th. What an idiot.

Then when we outnumber them 4-1 on the blocks, they miss a free-throw and their only damn player gets his hands on it to slap it out to a teammate. Game over.

Half the team didn’t want it today.

I roomed with some Alabama and Auburn grads for a few years while Gottfried was there. Some of the criticisms they made are glaring now that he’s in Raleigh. I like him, best coach we’ve had in a long, long, time, but I don’t always think he’s the best in-game coach. And then there’s the defense.

  9. graywolf 03/09/2013 at 5:28 PM #

In my humble opinion Lutz is the only glue holding this thing together. It’s just a gut feeling but if he leave I think the wheels fall off the bus completely.
As I said earlier I would like to see Lutz and Gottfried trade places for a few games and see what happens.

  10. Wulfpack 03/09/2013 at 5:30 PM #

I agree that Lutz is EXTREMELY valuable. I do not want to see him leave.

    We play defense?

  11. Whiteshoes67 03/09/2013 at 5:31 PM #

Count among those that are scared what happens if a certain asst coach leaves.

Did cowdog drive TOB’s moving truck last week?

  12. Alpha Wolf 03/09/2013 at 5:32 PM #

Like I said in the in-game thread, I am worried about an 8-9 matchup against Kentucky in the NCAAT. They beat UF today and all but guaranteed they’re in.

  13. Whiteshoes67 03/09/2013 at 5:32 PM #

Why recently has Wood been getting some of the tougher defensive assignments?

  14. Alpha Wolf 03/09/2013 at 5:33 PM #

Regarding Lutz, it’s a good point, but Gott won the SEC without him. Just sayin’….

  15. BJD95 03/09/2013 at 5:37 PM #

97, I saw the same thing you did. I am pretty sure several others did as well, but are too pissed to be online.

Oversampling of MG critics, which I just don’t get in the least. This year/mix has been a real challenge for any coach to handle.

Tony Bennett is a great X and O guy, who will never win a championship or make the Final Four.

  16. john of sparta 03/09/2013 at 5:38 PM #

    I-L-T….agreed.
    1/2 wanted to
    go home, and
    we will.
    early.

  17. Whiteshoes67 03/09/2013 at 5:40 PM #

Brown had 7-8 turnovers today, not his best game protecting the ball. Just dissappointed in this record. Best team in years, and 11-7 to show for it with a very friendly schedule. SOme of you asked yesterday why the polls ignore us. This is why.

  18. packalum44 03/09/2013 at 5:40 PM #

I felt a pit in my stomach when we were up 8 on fast break and Howell bounced the ball off his foot. His was followed by a Vandy miss on dunk up 6.

We twice passed ball to a ghost Ed Cota style under no pressure.

CJ bobbles a fast break lay up. Everyone but Wood misses free throws all game.

Officiating was horrible BOTH ways. Though its hard to measure, I have seen worse in general and more biased this season duke Maryland and wake made me want to do more than throw a bottle on the court. I don’t know that I have EVER seen such a swing in style of calling. Sumo wrestling to two hand touch. Never seen anything in that regard.

With that said, I finally get after all these years why K prefer the Uncle Tom types. They are smarter more clutch and more coachable.

Our biggest lack in personnel comes at the 4 and 5 position. We got out-rebounded bc they are taller and more athletic down low (no offensive skills).

If Gott can get us a couple trees down low we’ll have the chance to be a more complete team.

Tyler Lewis will be one or the best PGs we’ve had by his senior year. I pray he starts next year. He’s incredibly good and needs playing time. His shot is getting better he needs to bulk up in offseason. Talking roids’.

We blew the game in the final 4 minutes. We are not a strong headed team. We look scared to execute in the final ticks. G should make the offense less complex in the final minutes bc our best players have double digit IQs.

  19. Alpha Wolf 03/09/2013 at 5:42 PM #

I think that the MG critics are doing today what fans do…trying to find a scapegoat for the loss.

Is he a perfect coach? Nope, there isn’t one. Even V pulled some boner moves and had teams that had their issues. But let’s compare Gott to every other coach after V and Gott wins every single time.

At the very worst, we aren’t hearing any bullshit about chopping wood and honoring the process.

  20. wufpup76 03/09/2013 at 5:45 PM #

Well, that left a bitter taste in the mouth.

I didn’t think it was the officials, just us … Officials were not great, but we cost ourselves today.

    Sh*t.

  21. BJD95 03/09/2013 at 5:47 PM #

100% agreed, Alpha. As I said earlier, MG is an Ol’ Roy type coach. Not to his first-balllot Hall of Fame level yet…but the upside is there BECAUSE of the kind of coach he is. You don’t want an X and O specialist that doesn’t recruit elite guys or run a sellable system.

You can’t expect every coach to be John Wooden in all areas…and who knows how well even he would have done if he didn’t cheat 10 times as much as Tarkanian and Calipari combined.

Speaking of chopping wood…the free-falling Sun Devils are getting fed to the woodchipper, Fargo-style. Just like the last time they played their shaky arch-rival.

  22. BJD95 03/09/2013 at 5:52 PM #

I am also just in the foulest sports mood. The freefall season for the English Premier League soccer Pack completed itself this morning, too. I now fully expect UVA to blow out the Terps, then we will lose to VPI (45 for Erick Green) to land in the 8-9 “ejector seat” NCAAT line. Blech.

  23. Wufpacker 03/09/2013 at 5:54 PM #

“….it’s not just the number of fouls in the boxscore. It’s when and who the fouls are called. It’s player combinations. It’s timing.

We were done early in this game.”

    Thought that was worth repeating.

We came out with good energy and played hard IMHO. Officiating combined with our poor adjustments to it did us in as far as any gameplan (and no, not saying it was one sided…but it was poor nonetheless).

We still fought hard, which I’m proud of, but by that point we were just trying to tread water, and down the stretch we shot ourselves in the foot (both of ’em actually) just enough to keep ourselves on the losing end today.

And now I gotta freaking pull for UMd.

But at least I can pull against Carolina tonight without worrying if the outcome is better or worse for us. And if Carolina loses then the day isn’t a total loss.

  24. DrWuffette1day 03/09/2013 at 5:56 PM #

Alpha, that was a little rough but I kind of agree. I’m just hesitant because Leslie does a lot of work out there that people don’t notice. Just him walking on the court attracts the other team’s best defensive player(s).

I do like our freshmen and they play hard. They WANT to be on the court. None of them are Leslie talent though. Seniors aren’t leading. No one is . What I like about your Leslie theory is that with 3 Lowe players gone next year (non-leaders), maybe if Brown decides to return, he and the freshman will naturally step up.

Don’t get me wrong….I like this team a lot. I wish they had won the games they were supposed to win. Wake. Md. VA.

To be completely controversial (!), a couple of these individual records that will be achieved are a result of those players having so many mins, especially as underclassmen. On par ACC teams, some of those players would have not seen the floor as much.

  25. Wulfpack 03/09/2013 at 5:58 PM #

My questions about Gott this year are not so much Xs and O’s, though I do think we are a poor defensive team that can be improved. It has more to do with team building and team chemistry. I would like to know what is going on with these guys and why some aren’t on board? Is it simply personality differences? This is the kind of thing coach K checks at the door. Either get with the program or receive a tongue lashing and time on the pine. I don’t know if there is anything he can do about it. Perhaps it is just a mix of the young and he old, his guys vs the other guy’s guys – but something has been going on. Too much evidence not to think so. And you hope no one leaves because of it. Already very thin and we will lose a lot of guys next year. Remember how the team reacted with the tourney invite last year? Jumping for joy. Not so this year. Different dynamic, and not just because we moved from hunter to hunted. Some of these guys don’t care for each other, and they’re not playing for each other.
