Where else can you learn way too much about the collective ills of aging, while listening to the “you’re a liberal, you suck/you’re a conservative, you suck” argument across multiple threads. I wish the SFN dream summer could last forever.

At the very least, I wish we could have an end of summer bash at the Jersey Shore a la Dennis, Dee, Mac, Charlie and Frank.

It must be all the newcomers over the last 30 years who have jumped on the Duke bandwagon.

Not to mention our bandwagon breaking an axle about 25 yrs ago.

I find it remarkable that 61,137 males gave birth in 2012.
    Take that, Sam Ervin.

A “fine job” and a “fine season” are not necessarily the same thing.

Hee hee, I bet that shoot set the record for ‘accidental’ gropage.

Depends upon one’s definitions, sliding scales, semantics, interpretations (and all that jazz) of f-cked, I suppose.

As a whole, and referring only to human nature/behavior fwiw, I’d agree that we’re no more f-cked than we’ve always been. But no less either.

Wuf, I greatly appreciate the updates. I feel like I’m responsible for them, given that I’m a State alum and a White Sox fan (I almost had a stroke when Carlos dropped to 3rd), but I’m so caught up in the poop show that is the 2014 Sox I sort of forget to post.

Carlos should be in the bullpen before the season’s end. Barring a shelling in AAA, that is. I’m hoping to see him next Sunday in start #2.

I feel your pain. Especially the past two nights. OK, I didn’t exactly FEEL it, but I did watch it. I was pleasantly surprised that we got Sale’s (arguably) worst outing of the year.

Too bad for you, you didn’t get the Ubaldo gimme. Fortunately for my sanity, no one else will either (hopefully) as he has been delegated to the pen for the time-being and will hopefully remain there.

Rodon started Tuesday, but did not figure in the decision of a 10-5 Charlotte loss.

    3.0 IP, 1H, 1R(earned), 3K, 3BB, 55 pitches (35 strikes)

The 3rd inning run he gave up was the result of two consecutive walks, a base hit, and a sac fly.

Here’s hoping that some young guys grow up fast in the defensive backfield, and that young Mr. McClendon won’t be called into duty this year and can redshirt.

Jacoby Brissett living up to the hype will be gravy. Driskel Schmiskel.

Whatever it takes to get the kids going….

But just for the sake of argument…
Is it not true that anything that needs that much ‘pumping up’ is fundamentally flawed over the long term?

Is it not true that external motivation has certain addictive qualities…. such as the need for more and more frequent doses to achieve the same results?

Is it possible to just be good at what you do and take care of business without a lot of external rah, rah, rah?

I dunno about all of that, but I do know that predators are good at hunting because they have to be, not because they ‘want’ to be. Plus, they eat things that have already been wounded all the time. Easy meal = Good meal.

Mr. Thomas ain’t no Marlin Perkins.

Yep, looks like this thread is limping to the barn.

    But we must address this….

Baylor is the Oregon of the Southwest.

RG III agrees. Hopefully they won’t unveil any Eugene-esque hideosities in football.

    Louisiana-Monroe (+2.5) vs Wake Forest

In 2013 the Warhawks came to Winston-Salem and dealt the Deacs a 2 pt home loss. With a relocated Pete Thomas (yes, THAT Pete Thomas) under center, ULM ‘upsets’ a bad Wake team at home to open 2014.

    Miami (+3.5) at Louisville

This one is just a ‘feeling’ pick I guess. A Bridgewater/Strong-less Louisville’s ACC opener (at home, no less) won’t go as well as expected against a Miami squad which has been largely overlooked, despite a f-ck ton of talent.

    Georgia (-8) vs Clemson

My almost alma mater vs those damned Tiggers. Both have to reload. UGa has more ammo to reload with and a staff that is more accustomed to doing so. Plus they’re between the hedges for this one. What could go wrong?

Florida State (-17.5) vs Okie State (Arlington, TX)

The ‘Noles will likely lose focus and stub their collective toe somewhere along the line in 2014 on their quest to repeat (and frankly, I don’t even think they’ll make the 4 team playoff). But that stumble won’t come vs the Cowboys in Arlington.

Georgia Southern (+22.5) at NC State

The Pack should hopefully be at least a bit more consistent offensively. The obvious question is will they be any better at stopping anyone? With that jury still out, 22.5 is waaaaaayyyy too big.

    http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2014/08/12/should-employers-care-that-fantasy-football-means.html

Challenger folks did a lot of fancy math and came up with the figure of $13.4 billion in lost work output nationwide, thanks to fantasy sports.

    [snip]

So should you, as a business owner and employer, be outraged and ban all such nonsense in your workplace?

Absolutely not, says the employment consulting firm.

“An across-the-board ban on all fantasy football or sports websites is likely to backfire and cause a drop in morale, loyalty and, ironically, productivity,” Challenger said. “The end result could be far worse than any loss of productivity caused by an hour or two of team management each week.”

What are we going to do in the interim?

Bitch and whine. This is who we are.

Personally, I don’t mind ‘#Statement’, but rather find it humorously ironic that they feel the need to over-explain its simplicity.

Kinda like the ACC and its multiple releases, one of which was 63 pages, to explain its changing from an old boring logo to a new boring logo.

I don’t think it’s an overSTATEment to say that we’ve had a recent predilection for underSTATEment on the field. But with luck we won’t be devaSTATEd by this year’s athletic offerings, and we can reSTATE our rightful place and not get kicked in the proSTATE by our competition, especially those apoSTATEs from Chapel Hill.

In football specifically, hopefully a reinSTATEd Shadrach can help by bolstering a running game, which would go a long way toward helping Jacoby Brissett to remain STATEly. For his sake, I hope he’s teSTATE, just in case the offensive line cannot adequately protect him.

Hopefully he won’t get fed up and hit the interSTATE, and a season of relative success will geSTATE.

    OK, I’m done.

Though it might be a bit premature to anoint the ‘Ville to annual powerhouse status, I like the addition of strength and am happy that they are in our division and look forward to what will hopefully become a good rivalry. Now if we could just trade ‘Cuse for VT.

I don’t mind not having an annual Duke match up in football, but I do hope something can be worked out to bring it around a bit more often.

I’d like to see ECU dropped completely, but am not holding my breath.
