Well, kudos is deserved to ESPN for running the real story. Also, I hope that Dan Kane has trademarked his name because it was used so many times during this broadcast that he deserves royalties!! ‘Proud’ Mary and ‘Citizen’ Kane walked the dog on Roy (whose name now must be pronounced with the French ‘wah’) and Bubba C!!

Gott’s substitution patterns and lineups on the floor are now in serious question. I understand that he’s limited with who he can put on the floor. Cat Barber and Ralston Turner are having a contest to see who turns the ball over more. If you turn the ball over consistently, you need to sit until you break the habit. UVa is better than us as a team, but not 30 points better liked they’ve played tonight.

This one official is bound and determined to turn Kyle Washington into Kenny Inge. I didn’t see anything that could be constituted as a foul on KW by posting up, and putting his hands up for the ball. Must be a tendency foul, I guess.

True dat, Plywood. Also, Gwiazdowski beat Nelson twice this summer in US Olympic Team Trials. I wish I would have had eyes on the match, but I don’t have the time or access to FloWrestling’s streaming. Finishing around 20th for the team is great especially considering that four starters did not wrestle in this tournament at all.

Bad news, Renda, Machavellio bowed out on Consolation rounds. Cook still alive in wrestle backs and Gwiazdowski in the semis. Gantt advanced with a 7-5 sudden victory win over Minnesota wrestler!!

Gwiazdowski has pushed through to the Semis. All the wrestlers in the consolation round are still alive, and the Pack has moved into a tie for 20th place with UN*. Stay tuned!!

Here is GoPack’s update. State is currently in 24th place but have a good chance to move up with 4 alive in the consolation brackets and Gwiazdowski alive in the quarterfinal round of the championship bracket.

I’m lucky Plywood, because I have a job that gives me access to random sporting events from around the country. Flowrestling.com is running the wrestling over internet stream, but I don’t have access to that. You can always check out trackwrestling.com for live results on wrestling events, including dual matches at all divisions.

As for the Pack, Nick Gwiazdowski is in the Quarterfinals round of the Championship bracket at 285. He had a bye in the Prelim round, pinned his second opponent and won a 6-1 decision over the Minnesota heavy in that last round.

Thomas Gantt won his first two matches in the Championship round, including a prelim win, but lost his third match and has fallen to the consolation rounds.

Michael Machiavello, William Cook, and Pete Renda are still alive in the consolation rounds.

The team had some turnover, which is to be expected in a non-revenue when there is a coaching change. But the fact that this team is competing in difficult league with mostly freshman is impressive. The scores haven’t been so good so far in the Southern Scuffle, but according to the brackets, several of our guys aren’t competing today which is odd. Not sure if it’s illness or holiday, but Gwiazdowski and Gantt are the only two who are still in the championship bracket.

If my memory serves, Tremayne Stephens was from Greenville, SC, and Clemson wanted him badly, but State got him to sign. Always one of the nicest and most approachable athletes from my time on campus (him and Danny Strong were both great with regular people!). Great for him and for State alums!

VTpackfan, I don’t disagree that Cat is the superior talent, but Tyler would not make himself option #1 when a score is needed. Cat did that on a few occasions, and if getting to the line was his mentality, then he has to make those FTs. Corch had Monroe his whole career as the main scoring option. Cat needs to find Warren in those clutch situations. Tyler’s offensive skills are regressing, but his mindset isn’t.

Alpha was exactly right when he posted early that State had little room for error in order to win tonight. State was close the whole way leading much of the game, but didn’t make several key plays down the stretch, INCLUDING not getting the ball to the conference leading scorer during crunch time.

    1) Cat is not physically or mentally ready to take over a ball game. It’s not that I expect that of Cat; I just hope he’s working mentally to take the game over and will his team to victory.

    2) Gott’s allocation of playing time deserves some criticism, especially late. Tyler gave up a three late, but I trust that Tyler will make a play to get a scorer involved in crunch time more than I trust Cat. Gott giving those key minutes to Cat right now is puzzling, and frustrating in a game that could have/should have been a home victory.

This just upsets me even more. Were we not ranked #10 preseason last year? The fact that we made it to Omaha with our starting lineup mostly in tact, it’s hard to imagine that we’re not at least top-8. We’re returning the hands-down #1 pitching prospect in the country, and a solid top-10 pick in Turner. If we were anyone else, we’d be top-5 easily.

Good win; it shows some resilience (and willingness to win despite officials making sure to let the other team gets a solid advantage–Detroit was in the bonus before the 10:00 minute mark in the second half). I hope Turner can use this to catapult his offense, as he had a solid streak in the 2nd half. He is our only hope of scoring against a zone, which we will continue to see the rest of the season.

If anyone of you are listening to the ESPN3 crew, apparently Ray Nattilli made a terrible call in State’s favor. We should mark this day down in history.

Worse than a caricature of himself, Vitale is the flip-side of the Howard Cosell coin, when a broadcaster/journalist becomes more important than the game he’s broadcasting. Where Cosell would ridicule everything and anything, Vitale is sickeningly positive of everyone and everything. As for the comment regarding his ‘loyalty’ to Jimmy V, I never heard about them being ‘friends’ until Jimmy joined ESPN. My dad clearly recalls Vitale commenting on ESPN before V worked there that V was ‘clearly guilty’ based solely on Golenbock’s tripe. He’s exactly why the mute button was invented. Hopefully the end of his time at ESPN will be just as silent as he should be. But I guess it will be Tebow/Vick part 95!!

Two things: 1) WhiteShoes67, I ask this question without full understanding, so don’t think that I’m goading here … how does the NCAA justify its tax exemption? 2) Am I reading this correctly that the NCAA is settling, and then challenging the settlement?
