^ WE opened up the bracket by beating Villanova. Talk about wanting cake and eating it too:

If we had broken through to the Final Four this year, Gott would very likely be our coach for the next 5 years – REGARDLESS of what happens next season.

The departure of Lacey / KW now means next year puts more pressure on Gott to show you (and others) ‘something special’ that you haven’t seen yet. If we go into the tank, wouldn’t that provide ammunition to those who think Gott is not the best for NC State?

You don’t appear to be ‘such a big fan’ of Gott, so what exactly are you trying to get at? I want my Final Four… But I want a different coach once I get it?

But I simply HATE the White Sox, for one big reason I won’t go into because I’ll be called all kinds of names on here.

Oh come on, say it out loud so we can all pile on and harass you! 🙂

^^ You keep making it sound like Gott is “coaching” or something. 😉

I remember someone really jumping down my throat when I said we should expect at least one transfer given the numbers alone.

You may be thinking of me – but if so – “jumping down my throat” is a little creative on your part, shall we say.

What I said in that post was (paraphrasing): Saying “someone is going to transfer” is sort of a meaningless statement depending if the “someone” is (a) Cat Barber (b) say, Patrick Wallace.

Kyle Washington is ‘good/important enough’ that you win a feather in your cap, if that’s what you wanted.

So now, let’s have a look at the “next tier” coaches not HOF’ers or deemed to be ‘potential HOF’ers’ (and that, by loose terms). This is the next 19 in terms of salary only and with no other criteria such as winning percentage, etc. However it is only coaches whom made the 2015 NCAAT since I could not find a comprehensive list – therefore it excludes some high-paid coaches like packalum44’s boy, Jamie Dixon. Obviously, this disregards firings or job changes after the season.

    John Thompson III $2.8 M
    Jay Wright $2.8 M
    Steve Alford $2.6 M
    Rick Barnes $2.6 M
    Travis Ford $2.6 M
    Scott Drew $2.5 M
    Matt Painter $2.4 M
    Mark Turgeon $2.3 M
    Mike Anderson $2.2 M
    Fred Hoiberg $2.2 M
    Mick Cronin $2.2 M
    Mark Gottfried $2.1 M
    Dana Altman $1.9 M
    Steve Lavin $1.9 M
    Andy Kennedy $1.8 M
    Fran McCaffery $1.8 M
    Mark Fox $1.7 M
    Larry Krystkowiak $1.6 M
    Shaka Smart $1.6 M

Now, the list in order of salary (unfortunately with mixed sources; does not reflect any raises reported since the NCAAT):

    Krzyzewski $9.7 M
    Calipari $6.4 M
    Pitino $6.0 M
    Self $5.0 M
    Izzo $4.0 M
    Donovan $4.0 M
    Miller $3.5 M
    Matta $3.4 M
    Huggins $3.3 M
    Crean $3.0 M
    Ryan $2.9 M
    Kruger $2.8 M
    Beilein $2.5 M
    Buzz Williams $2.3 M
    Marshall $2.0 M
    Bennett $1.9 M
    Brown $1.9 M
    Williams $1.9 M
    Boeheim $1.8 M
    Smith $1.8 M
    Few $1.3 M

Anyone have others to add (or subtract) based on two additional years of information? I would say:
    Tony Bennett

I would offer Gregg Marshall if he keeps this up.

Since nobody else made suggestions for addition or deletion let’s go with the list (on page 8 for anyone who cares) and add Bennett and Marshall. I’m surprised packalum44 didn’t jump in with Jamie Dixon, but alas I will not include him in this hypothetical exercise. HOF-level coaches by conference:

    ACC: 6
    B1G: 5
    B12: 4
    SEC: 2
    PAC: 1
    AAC: 1
    WCC: 1
    MVC: 1

    TOTAL: 21

We didn’t have a target on our back this year and we lost to WFU, Clemson at home, BC.

We didn’t have a target on our back this year and we beat Duke, UNC away and badly, Louisville away.

Target or not, we will either step up to our potential or not. Here’s to a hard-working offseason.

Considering the financials once the dust settles… I could see an “everybody won” situation for VCU, Texas, AND State.

Clearly Bleacher Report is not informed of what nuances like “at Wake Forest” mean around these parts…

From the Bleacher Report article VAWolf references:

“Some question whether Marshall’s intense practices and tough-love approach would work in Austin, mainly because he’d be coaching much more talented, McDonald’s All-American-type players who have been coddled and spoiled their whole lives”

LOL, Tell us how you really think!

It is the day the ‘game changes’ and thereafter it’s just a matter of how fast the man can get the hell out … in a orderly way.

    1. ^ The Lewis transfer had no impact on this years team.
    2. Enough with the woe is me this was our best opportunity BS. Looking at Rick. It’s not like we didn’t compete. We got beat.
    3. Congratulations to the players and coaches for improving throughout the season and becoming a very good team.

    And regarding the post:

No doubt, you’ve heard the concept of “house money” applied to the 2014-15 Wolfpack.

I can’t help but think that Gott is POUNDING this into our guys. “You guys have already made your run, right? That’s what everyone says.” Etc.

Forget the ACC, how about the Triangle putting 3 teams in the Sweet 16. Think about that for a bit.

If I’m being honest, Pitino’s adjustments get the nod over State’s ability to anticipate his adjustments and scheme counters.

    See last Duke game.

Exactly what I thought this morning. This may be where that Duke blowout in the ACCT actually helps us.
