The new hot buzzword from all the UNC faithful in the comment sections of these articles is telling people who see through the baby blue line of BS to “educate yourself” which is rich. Considering that educating themselves was UNC athletes only option since 1993

This is exactly the right ammount of media attention for us to excel. No one is talking about us. This game is an after thought to anyone without a rooting interest. This is when we shine.

Puke city. I don’t know another team that’s as Jekyll and Hyde as this one. Oh, and I think teams have caught on to “weave n heave 2.0” where we stand around and wait for Turner to run corner to corner.

Right on, Jiga. I didn’t mean to say that all those guys came out the same year, although in the case of Florida the reason no one was drafted in ’06 was that they all stuck around to defend the title in ’07 IIRC.
What I was trying to illustrate was that, most of the time, these teams have a lot of NBA ready (at least in scouts eyes) talent to help them go deep in the tournament. They may have only had one player get drafted THAT season, but they are consistently developing guys who go to the NBA. State is not, or rather has not up to this point with a few exceptions.
You are correct, draft picks aren’t everything. But teams that are consistently developing guys that go to the NBA are a lot more common in the final four than teams that don’t. Regardless, your research is excellent and I am totally using ODS when filling out my big money brackets this year, so big thanks for that.

Great analysis. But if I may, I’d like to show another common thread that these teams share

2002- MD 1st rd picks: Juan Dixon, Chris Wilcox
    2003- SYR 1st rd picks: Carmelo Anthony(#3 overall),Hakim Warrick
2004- UCONN 1st rd picks: Emeka Okafor(#1 overall), Ben Gordon(#3 overall), Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, Charlie Villanueva
2005- UNC 1st rd picks: Ray Felton, Sean May, Rashad McCants, Marvin Williams
2006-2007 Fla 1st rd picks: Joakim Noah,Ronnie Brewer, Al Horford (Only team to ever have 3 players selected in the first 9 picks)
2008- KU 1st rd picks: Mario Chalmers, Darrell Arthur, Cole Aldrich
2009- UNC 1st rd picks: Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, Ed Davis, Tyler Zeller
2010- Duke 1st rd picks: Mason Plumlee, Miles Plumlee, Nolan Smith
2011- UCONN 1st rd picks: Kemba Walker, Jeremy Lamb
2012- Kentucky 1st rd picks: Anthony Davis(#1 overall), Michael Kidd Gilchrist(#2 overall), Terrence Jones, Marquis Teague
    2013- L’Ville 1st rd picks: Gorgui Deing
2014- UCONN 1st rd picks: Shabazz Napier

Most of these teams have multiple next level players on the court. Now of course all of these players don’t pan out in he NBA, but getting the scouts to take you in the first round says you were a top level college player. Since 1992 we have had exactly 4 players drafted in the first round and only two drafted in the 2nd. TJ Warren was far and away the most complete NBA ready player we’ve had in a long while, but to be in the discussion for national titles we are gonna need at least two and possibly 3 TJ Warrens on our roster in the same year. Gottfried is a good recruiter but we need to see some guys like Barber, Abu, and the Martins develop into those type of players before we can realistically say an NC State team is capable of winning the tournament.

I’m not about to give the ACC officiating a pass, as God knows there have been plenty of calls against us that are- at best- bizarre, and -at worst- blatant vengeance for Hess getting the boot. But having said that, we absolutely need to attack the rim more often if we want to get to the line more. We are a jump shooting offense who rarely feeds our bigs down low. And when we do, most of the time they settle for baby hooks and fadeaways. Shots that have a lower percentage of drawing contact. Barber needs to be able to drive more, he’s good at that. He’s a liability just hanging around the perimeter. Anya and Abu need to go up strong instead of trying to work around their defender. We do seem to be getting better at the foul line as of late. More chances are gonna be effective, especially in these close games.

This is the most NC State of all NC State teams I’ve watched. That one will hurt for awhile. Which is ridiculous since anyone who has watched this team for more than 3 games should’ve seen it coming as soon as we started forcing up shots at the end of the first half. Fun fact: in games this season where State is up/down by four inside the 3:00 mark, the Wolfpack is 1-6. Being as how they should be favored in their next 3, it seems like a good time for a break because I just don’t want to see them give one away to Clemson, Wake, or GT.

So….a tradition at NC State that was enjoyed by a lot of students and alumni was done away with for no good reason. Color me shocked.

How many thousands of dollars did Swofford piss away so some design firm could highlight the old ACC logo on Microsoft Word and hit the italics button?

The sources are probably agents or runners for agents. TJ is gonna go in rd 1 which makes him a hot commodity. These agents/runners have probably been in contact with TJ And his family, or at the very least coach Gottfried. They will “leak” info about TJ jumping all day long, because the more he sees his name in print as a pro or a player with good pro prospects the more likely he is to go. Goodman and Wojo are just a means to their end.

Worst choke job by the Pack since Vanderbilt in ’04. NC State tears your heart out on a weekly basis, but somehow they find new and unbelievable ways to reach for the bourbon year after year. I was in shock watching that last 3 minutes unfold. I’m depressed, angry, and wondering why I continue to do this to myself. Having said that:

Let’s not spend the next 24 hrs $h!+ing all over these guys. TJ Warren just finished as good an individual season as I’ve seen since starting at State in ’93. Everyone improved over the year and they fought hard despite getting hosed on calls in what would’ve been big wins. This loss is entirely on them. No doubt. But they fought hard down the stretch just to get us into the tournament. I hate that the season ends on a meltdown like this, because they deserve to be remembered in a better light then they most likely will. I’m gonna go drink some rubbing alcohol now.

You people predicting defeat should be ashamed of yourselves. You have obviously not been paying attention this season. Of course we are going to win tonight. We will get our hopes up after our first top 50 win. We will talk about scenarios in the ACCT that will get us back on the bubble. Then we will lose at home to BC and show up flat at the ACCT and lose our first game. I can’t believe you call yourselves fans.

I’m not seeing it. We are big 0-8 vs the RPI top 50. We have zero wins of any consequence and versus the top 4 in our conference we are 0-5 with two of those being blowouts and two being games in which we had the lead with under 10 seconds left. I feel bad because this team has come within a few “only in the ACC” type calls of being a lock. But if I saw a team with our record get in, I would think it was ridiculous. I don’t see us making the dance unless we win the ACCT.

I don’t think we’re dead and buried just yet. But last night’s loss definitely brought in the priest to give last rights. It was an important game. With UNC facing Duke twice in the next week and another shot at Pitt, Clemson has a legit shot a 4th place. That could’ve been us. So of course we came out flat.
I just don’t understand this team. I’ve seen them play great complete games against FSU, GT, and Syracuse. Games where they looked focused in most possessions, and withstood small runs by the opponent without falling apart. Then you watch games like last night and they don’t look interested in setting up anything on offense other than half court shots from Turner.
As far as the rest of the season goes, I just hope that the bottom hasn’t fallen out like we’ve seen in years past. I’d like to see this team regroup. There are four winnable games left on the schedule. I could care less about the NIT, but 20 wins for this team that started out 1-4 in the ACC and losing to Central would be a pretty good finish to this season.

The “Tri-Weasel” is the worst logo ever created. I always associate that with some of NC State’s biggest sports marketing fails. Just below the unitard and the shoe contract with LA Gear. Bury it and burn the evidence. As far as the new helmets, I like the Strutting Wolf Head. It’s a legit logo with history and it looks good on the white white helmet and great on the red helmet. I also feel like this new wave of uniforms the colleges are getting are really gawdy. I think the kids who wear this stuff now are gonna look back at this stuff like I remember the Zubaz trend of the very early 90’s.
