    Gowolves,

I’ll ignore your straw man question on the next great coach. As for giving Gottfried more time please show me where in his career he’s been able to maintain anything over time. He either hasn’t been around long enough and gets out while up or he peaked and declined until fired. Unlike 99% of people I actually HAVE done the research on winning teams and the vast majority have one thing in common…really good defense. No where in Gottfried’s career has he ever shown results of the type of defense it takes to win big. He starts out average and progressively gets worse season after season and thus his W/L record gets worse and worse. The man has a fatal flaw and everyone sees it except him and I’m assuming Yow. If you want to continue the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results, then have at it man. I on the other hand have seen enough of Gottfried to know it’s more than likely not going to get better than the last 4 years.

“We are scared of NC State’s defense” …said no one. #GottD?

Look if you’re happy with the results over the last 4 years and don’t expect anything more then you’re more than happy with keeping Gottfried around forever, hoping he’ll trip over himself to a better result.

My bar is not determined by the 3 previous predecessors to Gottfried and their average to epic fail results. Please don’t spout the line about if Henderson was healthy all year we’d be better because Henderson can’t overcome the horrendous defense this team puts on the court. In all likelihood Gottfried has already peaked at State but thanks to Yow’s colossal mistake of giving him an extension before this season started there’s no chance of replacing him anytime soon. My only hope is UCLA or some other program gets really drunk one night and hires him away.

^They didn’t sub in Anya, he was already on the floor, Rowan was the sub. The rule is if a player can’t shoot a FT due to an injury the opposing coach can choose from anyone already on the floor to shoot them in the injured players place. So guess who HP’s coach chose?

What happens IF MG doesn’t land the superstar class everyone was hoping for before Bam decided to go to Kentucky? What happens if Dennis Smith is the only freshman in 2016 who can make an immediate impact?

College basketball is all about what have you done for me this year. There is no next year or 3 years from now, only this year because players leave constantly. You can change your fortune on a dime in today’s game but it goes both ways. State can ill afford for Gottfried to have 2 consecutive less than good recruiting years.

If 2015 and Bam are just blips and MG can finish the 2016 class with enough talent to plug and play at the necessary positions during their freshmen year, then he’ll have righted the ship for another season. The question we need to ask now is what if he doesn’t land the big class for 2016 and has “another” FUBAR season (assuming this season really does become FUBAR, which is no guarantee) with a team plagued by the same characteristics of every MG team?

Lot’s of IFs for 2 full seasons but something to ponder as we go through this season, both on the court and on the recruiting trail.

Cat is annoyed with his teammates and he should be. JEEBUS

I’m annoyed with Cat’s teammates and I’m not even playing with them.

We haven’t played more than 2 minutes at a time without Cat on the floor, and each time we have we’ve looked like a disaster. We played 11 minutes without him and grew our lead. I’ll take that as a win.

Shooter flopped…that’s supposed to be a technical this year. Guess not.

It’s amazing how some rules are overly enforced and some are ignored.

I’d point out State’s piss poor perimeter defense, help defense and nonexistent post player skill development under the current regime but since the sunshine squad’s panties get all twisted I won’t point out their piss poor perimeter/help defense and nonexistent post player skill development.

Since you discount any player that’s actually shown improvement under the current ‘regime’, thanks for keeping your opinion to yourself.

Thanks for identifying yourself and your lack of reading comprehension.

I seriously question Gottfried and his ability to develop players. I’ve seen only 2 improve under him and you have to question just how much was MG and how much was them.

    Tree beard and tj

Add Calvin and Lo Brown to that list. Lo is still the best PG we have had since Corch.

The question with Leslie, Brown, and Howell becomes how much was it player development and how much was they were able to actually run a system vs pick up ball. Howell was producing the same under Lowe as he did under MG, he just had more minutes to produce when Tracy Smith left and he did so without dropping off. The same can be said of Warren’s 2 years, did the same both years just did more of it his second season.

In the end I don’t know if those 4 improved under Gott but a legit argument could be made for either side for Leslie, Brown, and Howell. I think Barber has clearly improved his game from previous years. Barber is the only one that I can look at and say he’s definitely a better player today than when he arrived. I can’t say that about any other player MG has coached at State and even if you included the first 4 that’s a pretty short list after +4 years.

Rick, I don’t care how athletic you are, if you don’t teach proper man-to-man defense you look like State.

Spread State’s defense out and they look like a pick up team.

And in the blink of an eye State finds a way to give away all they worked hard to chip away over 5 minutes.

Final 10 minutes, time for the refs to switch teams to call fouls on.
