At the game and it’s no better in person than what I’ve seen on tv.

I caught some of the IUPUI @ Marquette game last night and here’s my quick thoughts on our upcoming game Wednesday.

    1. IUPUI is small, their 2 low post players are 6-8 everyone else is pretty much 6-5 or shorter. If State’s Bigs don’t dominate this game then it’s going to be another long night and not a pretty one.
    2. IUPUI’s starting 5 are all upperclassmen which doesn’t bode well for State IMO, they’ve played 2 tough games on the road already and won’t come in scared.
    3. If I were coaching State I’d make sure we had proper spacing on offense and pound the ball inside all night long.

Coming into this season I thought the IUPUI game would be a no brainer, now I give State a 50/50 shot.

I thought freeman was overweight from the full court angle but up close he’s not, he does look like he’s moving in slow motion though.

State played as a cohesive unit for about 5 minutes from 28-33 minutes into the game. Outside of that they looked very disorganized and still built a double digit lead. USA just isn’t good at all.

It only took 28 minutes but it looks like the Pack finally showed up to play as a cohesive unit on the court.

Crap call on Cat. They called the forearm extension offensive on Cat in first half and defensive on Cat in the second half.

For a team that relies on being more efficient on offense to win, its looks like it’s going to be a loooooong year.

Looks like any contact is a foul.

How in the world will Duke have a team on the court after a half with this new touch foul on the ball??

He does look out of shape.

Rowan shoots by feel… when he feels the ball he shoots.

    The weekend just got worse.

Terry Henderson is expected to miss a minimum of 6-8 weeks after suffering torn ligaments in his right ankle during NC State’s season opener on Friday night.

I swear to God Jacoby looks like a grizzled 50 year old and it never fails to make me giggle.

Why is it I’m not surprised you giggle?

The first 8 plays on offense the wolfpack offense was getting throttled by FSU’s size and speed. Then they adjusted and put together a solid drive.

Tex, I’m hoping this turns out to be an anomaly and serves as a wakeup call. Not saying they will be good on defense but they can’t be this bad all season on both ends.

Anyone else want to bet that touch foul away from the basket won’t be called evenly come ACC play?

Maybe MG should have hired Herb as a consultant to know how to defend against W&M?

I fully expect State to struggle on defense but this is ridiculous.

I think State’s defensive efficiency might take a dip.

    This really sucks.

The reason I love hanging out here to discuss nc state athletics is the high level of debating which takes place:

If you disagree with my view point then you’re wrong, because I’m right. Or you’re an idiot because you don’t agree with my POV, which is the only correct viewpoint.

    ********************

Remember, this is YEAR THREE of an absolute gut job of a rebuild. You have absolutely no standing to bitch about the quality of conference road wins. A lesser coach wouldn’t be getting them.

Football doesn’t get turned around on a dime, not unless one is left a heap of unmotivated talent. That was most assuredly NOT the case in West Raleigh.

BJD, I don’t think those of us who won’t equate beating weak teams, even on the road, is saying DD is a bad coach but more of the original statement that ‘progress’ has been made. I think it’s safe to say everyone has a different definition of progress. If the definition of progress is being better than 0-8 in the conference then sure, progress was made….last year.

    2012: 7-6 (4-4) ACC Road: 1-3
    2013: 3-9 (0-8) ACC Road: 0-4
    2014: 8-5 (3-5) ACC Road: 2-2
    2015: 6-3 (2-3) ACC Road: 2-1

    (FCS games excluded)
    2012:
    6 Wins: Opponents Record: 30-45 – 1 Team with a winning record FSU (12-2)
    6 Losses: Opponents Record: 44-30 – 2 Teams with a losing record Tennessee (5-7), Virginia (4-8)

    2013:
    2 Wins: Opponents Record: 10-14 – 0 Teams with a winning record
9 Losses: Opponents Record: 77-41 – 1 Team with a losing record Wake Forest (4-8)

    2014:
    7 Wins: Opponents Record: 40-46 – 2 Teams with a winning record Georgia Southern (9-3), UCF (9-4)
    5 Losses: Opponents Record: 44-30 – 0 Teams with a losing record

    2015:
    5 Wins: Opponents Record: 17-28 – 0 Teams with a winning record
3 Losses: Opponents Record: 18-9 – 1 Team with a losing record Virginia Tech (4-5)

There are obviously more games left to play in 2015 but as of right now, the only anomaly is 2013. I don’t see any tangible results. Just because the 2013 season set the bar as low as you can possibly get it doesn’t equate, IMO, to progress.

I’m sorry, but wins over BC (3-7), WF (3-6), Troy, S. Alabama, ODU, and E. Kentucky don’t show me anything. I’m not screaming for anyone’s head, but you have to beat someone before I start pointing at “progress”.

A comparison to Herb’s teams/records is right on point. He could wipe up the bottom of the conference, hold his own against the rest of the muddled middle, but had damned few wins against the top of the conference.

In the end, good teams prove that they are good by beating other good teams. State hasn’t accomplished that yet.

    ^This 1000x.
