My theory – we are just off-kilter. Everyone is out of balance. We can’t get proper spacing without a second guard. We certainly can’t properly defend the perimeter in a half-court set. The poop ‘splosion is a chain reaction from that. Without a stable base, we haven’t developed, because we just keep bailing water from the leaky boat.
Henderson doesn’t have to be fantastic, he just has to be a competent ACC starter. So everyone else can just be themselves. Because frankly, they aren’t good enough to play above and beyond their role (except for Cat, who we ARE going to burn out if we keep asking him to do literally EVERYTHING).
Goes back to guards being a limiting reagent of sorts. You can play a 4-guard offense. You naturally give some stuff up, but you can do it. 4 forwards just doesn’t really work (certainly more than a few minutes at a time), even though I periodically try to talk myself into the theory.
One thing we can all agree on is Mike Patrick is a Tool.
